Reason for choice:

I loved the gentle expression that this sculpt has! The lips are open, which is different from my first doll, and I thought that it would be fun to have such a different sculpt. Now that he has a faceup, too, I like how the parted lips gives him such a kind and calm expression.

Best Points:

The sculpting is really beautiful; the lips and nose especially are so pretty. I also love the details of the tear ducts on his eyes.

Worst Points:

His joints aren't as rounded, so when his joints bend (especially the elbows) the edges are a bit harsh. It's more aesthetic than actual function, however, so I believe this is just personal preference.

The faceup artist is so incredibly talented and she is very fairly priced for her talents! Her instagram is mssteinart (she also has facebook and flickr under pretty much the same name!). I just wanted to credit her for just how amazing and talented she is and she created the faceup of my literal dreams!

Name story:

Picking Avalon's name was so difficult! I wanted something that would almost make him sound like a wise grandpa without actually choosing a name that makes him sound old. I also tend to like uncommon names that lean more towards fantasy, so after many baby name articles, I settled on Avalon.

Fantasy Background
Avalon was born into one of the few remaining free druidic tribes surrounding the city. His family and community survived by hiding in the forests, thanks to their relationship with nature. Since he grew up in the safe haven of his community, he'd never encountered the hatred that the city held for those with magic. He heard stories and had even seen the scars left by the brutality of those who'd been attacked by city guards, but he never experienced this for himself. At least, not until he entered the city with some other members of his tribe to buy some supplies.

Modern Background
Avalon graduated from college and began his search for a job. Guided by his affinity for animals, he sought out opportunities at animal shelters, veterinarian offices, and the like. He eventually found his place at an animal sanctuary and is quickly becoming one of the sanctuary's most valuable employees. During spring, the sanctuary often decorated with fresh flowers, and Avalon volunteered to run to the florist to pick up their order. This is where he met his eventual boyfriend, Dove.

Avalon's younger sister, Sunny, immediately teased him about the "flower shop boy" and urged Avalon to ask him out. Much to Sunny's pleasure, Dove agreed to the date and the rest is history.
