Bellara is a sorceress. No, not a witch, b**ch or any other creative wording you may come up with. And yes, she was not joking - when she was born surnames as they are today where not invented yet. Morgan is just a generic name she puts on the papers to avoid tiresome arguments with clerks.
While she never clarifies how old exactly is "too old" an attentive listener may deduce that she was alive, somewhat bitter and bitingly sarcastic by the time Romans demonstrated why you don't make a martyr out of a religious figure... She althou mentions a mentor from time to time in passing and never talks about her family.
Bell general attitude is usually described as bitter, resentful, sarcastic and put-upon yet somehow she always draws people in, no matter where she goes. Both through her "timeless" looks and unshakable confidence - after surviving for as long as she did there is little she is not up to dealing with. Her wisdom may bite, but it is wisdom nothing less - in the end it she always turns out to be correct.
She is althou good with people. In a disdainful, tired way, yet good nothing-less. She spend most of her life married to one monarch-conquer-dictator-milioner or the other all of them wrapped around her little finger with barely an effort. All of them means to an end.
Bell does not like having to "manage worldly possessions" yet requires her creature comforts, so getting a "moderately competent alpha male" to take care of the details always was a simple and efficient solution. She barely even needs to use any sorcery on them - man are simple creatures, at her age one knows how to keep them in line.
She scoffs at religion, and no sorcery is a science as far as she is concerned, not a faith... And yet again a good listener may notice that she believes in reincarnation at the very leas, since occasionally she remarks that the main reason to fear death is having to go through the indignity of dippers all over again. She althou adds that there are "far worst things than dying" with a clam certainty that means you really don't want to know the details.
Lately thou Bell was forced to become something of a "party girl"... For self preservation.
You see a decade and some ago she made a miscalculation in a ritual to summon an otherworldly entity... A mistake that resulted in said entity getting stuck in this world and being inordinately pissed about the fact. Ameret tracked Bell down and would have probably showed her a thing or two to add to her "worth than death" list if not for a young woman that sad entity picked up along the way like a stray puppy... Well a somewhat unwilling puppy... But a smart one. And a bit to kind and caring for her own good.
When push came to show Ruolan nearly hung herself around Amerets neck begging him (or "it", that really depends on your philosophical stance on the whole body and spirit thing) not to do anything to a "harmless woman"... Yeah... She knew Bellara for about 30 seconds back than, one can understand that mistake.
The hold up lasted long enough for Bellara to figure out that she messed up. Majorly. She, out of anyone on this planet, is probably the only one who knew exactly how much "bad news" Ameret is. And judging by her walking on eggshells around him (it) it is a LOT of very, very bad news indeed.
So being an intelligent woman, and good with people, as we established, instead of picking a fight she had no hope of winning she used another tactics - made herself useful, switched the rusty but efficient charm on and set out to convince her guest that not only she could "fix" the situation, but that visiting this world was not that awful of an experience to begin with. Ameret should really be thanking her!
Non of thous parts where really going that smoothly - "fixing" the situation required information she did not posses and Ameret was not convinced about this world being any kind of "fun"... Yet it was enough to give her a stay of... Whatever punishment she was going to be put to. After all her resources where useful, both the knowledge and the money part and as for "fun"... Well... Ruolan. Something about Ruolan fascinated and puzzled Ameret and apparently "Ruolan watching" made the whole experience somewhat bearable.
So Bell got to making sure that her "guest" and his "pet" had as much "enrichment" as she could put them through - as long as Ruolan reacted Ameret was entertained, and as long as Ameret was entertained she had a chance to find out how to get herself out of this predicament in one piece. Fortunately Ruolan did led a somewhat dull life before this events unfolded, so keeping her on edge was not that difficult for a world weary sorceress. And Bell was left with enough time to start working on a long term solution.
Unfortunately Bellaras knowledge of the situation had some major gaps - first Ameret was decidedly NOT what she was trying to summon, in fact she did not even think that a being of his caliber could be "summoned", second she had no clue how the body of Gabriel Moor managed to not disintegrate the moment Amerets essence touched it and finally to even contemplate sending the entity back she needed to know where "back" was... And the only avenue she could follow was Moors family line - there had to be something about them that messed up her ritual and to find out what she had to get close to the remaining relatives. She did remember Moor having a photo in his wallet and that photo had a child on it... All that was left was to figure out how to interest Ameret in the boy - after all she was not going to be able to get to him without her "guest" knowing...
