Cornelia Hagen was born Edward Hagen Jr., the only son to a man well respected and valued by the Cole family. She knew Carol Cole's daughter Sigfrida from a young age, and being 5 years older, it often fell to Cornelia to babysit Frida. The two got along well, probably because the family was always on the run and the kids never had a chance to make any long-term friends. Cornelia's father as well as Carol Cole was a timeshifter, someone who could shift between modern day and wild west era. It was no surprise that the kids inherited their abilities, first Connie and Frida a few years later.

Connie got her share of tragedy early on when they got attacked in their hideout by both lawmen and members of a strange alliance called "The Holy Aliiance". A shootout broke out between them and the Cole gang. The children and their mothers managed to flee, but Connie's father was killed in the shootout fighting on Carol's side. The shootout left a bloody trail leading to Carol, which caused even more lawmen to pursue Carol, and the family had to move constantly. Soon after that, a large number of Carol's posse, including Connie's mother, fell ill. Connie was too young to understand it at the time, but Carol denied to give his permission to take the sick to the modern world for hospital treatment because "the Alliance is looking for him". Connie's mother passed away from the illness among a few others, and Carol and his wife Jane took Connie in to keep raising her as their own. Connie was not quite one to replace the son Carol never had, though, and got mocked by Carol for fearing guns and being afraid of sitting on horseback. The fact that Carol tried to force the "man out of her" made her only dislike him more. Connie was always more close with Theodore Rosatti, a dubious priest who took the family in and offered them a hideout.

With her actual parents gone and Carol not awfully invested in her doings, no one had the time to keep an eye on Connie all the time when she was in her early teens, so she constantly snuck away from the gang and timeshifted to explore the modern world and her surroundings by herself. It occurred to her that the family could have a much better life if it weren't for their criminal lifestyle, and more importantly, her father and mother could still live if not for the selfish foolishness of Carol. She grew more and more distant with the gang, keeping only Frida close to her. She managed to convince Frida too that somewhere else without Carol would be better. One night when Connie was 15, Theodore made the mistake of lending her the key to Carol's room. Connie stole a large sum of gold and valuables from Carols stash, and before anyone noticed, fled with Frida to modern day. During her adventures Connie had discovered a bureau that specialized in creating modern identities for timeshifters. They changed their names, got a whole array of made-up or distant relatives, and ended up starting anew as "cousins". If Carol went looking, he never found them.

Connie eventually went through a gender transitioning process and changed her name once more. Now she has freshly graduated, which comes in handy as the girls weren't exactly thinking of their retirement savings with the huge lot they stole from Carol. Her and Frida share a cozy budget-friendly student apartment and life is finally starting to settle, but they are unaware that while Carol has not found them, The Holy Alliance is just a couple steps away with Tate Heilig and Abigail Avery leading the hunt. They want nothing from the girls, after all the girls have not been doing any timeshifting. Instead, they do see the girls as a huge potential means to finally blackmail Carol Cole out of his hideout.
