Not all timeshifters have blood feuds and treachery within the family. Elyon was born in the 1870s, and she comes from a big family of timeshifters. She has three siblings and many more cousins, so she never had to be alone in her childhood. Elyon’s family has built their imperium around a manor in Louisiana, and during generations, they earned their fortune with orchards and tobacco and sugar business.

Elyon’s parents have a love for culture, and the children knew about the family’s special ability from a young age. As timeshifter children won’t gain their abilities until early teenage years, the parents used other means to familiarize the kids with modern and old cultures alike and to educate them. The kids did not go to the regular school in the 1800s, because the parents deemed it safer that way. Due to this and not inviting strangers to the house, Elyon did not have many friends apart from her siblings and cousins, and later Tate Heilig when she was a teen. Their parents brought them modern toys and board games to play with. They cooked modern and old foods alike and read books from both ages. Modern music usually played in their house from a portable player. The kids got familiar with modern hobbies, and Elyon fell in love with dancing. Her parents even managed to find an Italian ballet teacher to teach Elyon in their own era. When the kids grew old enough and got their timeshifting abilities, Elyon as early as at 10 years, the family regularly travelled to the modern era with them. The kids got modern age IDs early on. They got to see foreign cities and speak the languages their private home-school teacher had taught them. Elyon was especially excited to go to a modern zoo as well as to go to a cinema since their parents had not been able to show them modern movies in the 1870s.

After getting her ability, Elyon moved on to practicing dance in the modern era. She never aimed for a professional level, but to her dancing was a way to clear her mind. Her parents wished for her to get further education in the modern world, but Elyon was never very invested in school or sitting still and listening. She didn’t have much pressure to study, either, as her family’s standing meant her future was going to be bright, nevertheless.

Elyon’s family has a long lineage of timeshifters reaching as far as history books can cover. The Holy Alliance would love to have them on their side, but so far, the Dawn family have been reluctant to join the Alliance. Generations ago the family secured a “peace treaty” with the Alliance and gained a special standing. The Alliance is forced to leave the family alone. Usually, the Alliance’s response to timeshifters refusing them is to eradicate any rebels. As their end of the deal the Dawn family agrees to keep their timeshifter nature hidden from the outside world. Smuggling modern goods to people outside the family or inviting quests over into their eccentric manor is strictly forbidden. The former rule is sometimes broken unbeknownst to the Alliance, as the Dawn family does occasionally give out modern medication and food to non-timeshifters such as their field workers.

Elyon somewhat knows Tate Heilig since when the two were children, as the two families are practically neighbours. Tate is a couple years older than Elyon, and Elyon looks up to him and his skills at dancing. The two become friends when Elyon is around 15, with Tate sometimes coming to Elyon’s pavilion at night to stargaze and talk. Occasionally he also played his viola for her. Although Elyon’s family don’t go to church, Elyon knows that Tate is learning to become a priest. Tate doesn’t talk about his family much or ever take Elyon to a visit, but Elyon knows he comes from an old timeshifter family too. After Tate moves away with Theodore and begins practicing his profession there, him and Elyon meet more rarely as Tate has less time to timeshift to meet her. Tate’s friendship with Elyon began to crumble when Tate joined the Holy Alliance and they started to change who Tate had been. Tate even went so far that he tried to convince Elyon that it would be a good idea for her to join The Alliance. Elyon and Tate sometimes see each other as they share a common dance hobby, but they barely talk to each other nowadays.

Due to having to hide who they were, Elyon was only allowed to spend time outdoors in modern clothes at night, when the field workers were sleeping. She quite enjoys a nocturnal horseback ride through their moonlit estates, as well as bringing her portable music player and lantern along and practicing her dance choreographies at the riverside pavilion in the chilly midnight air. Afterwards, she dives into the river for a refreshing skinny-dip.
