Grace Love was born in 1880s and was married off to a man that was double her age when she was just 14. Her husband was abusive and cold towards Grace, but the problem was, he was subtle at it. Outside the four walls of their home he was really liked, charmful and friendly to everyone in the town, and he played his role well. One night the situation got really bad when they were alone at home, and Grace took his man's shotgun and shot him to death. She packed her things and escaped, and since nobody knew what had really happened and Grace knew the officials would not believe her if she turned herself in, she became wanted for the murder of her man. The local paper titled her as "Grace Who Could Not Love" as a twist of her name. Grace survived living an isolated life, and everything had started to get back on track when she found out her ability to time travel between her birth era and modern day. Usually time travelling abilities start emerging in early teenage years, so Grace was a late bloomer.

In the modern day she passes as a university student who studies history to cover her identity. She lives as a roommate of a cheerful girl who does not know her secret, and she is best friends with Sigfrida Bonny, another student who can time travel. However since she has only lived in the modern era for a while, Grace does not fully understand the functioning of the modern society. Her friends need to constantly pull her out of awkward situations where she almost reveals herself for example not knowing how to use a microwave oven properly.

Grace does not stay in the modern era all the time. When there's no lectures or other modern student duties, she takes the time to travel back to 1890s. Recently she is more drawn to the modern era though, mostly because of her professor Jules Annesley who she has a crush on. Jules does not know Grace is a timeshifter, nor does he know such people even exist. Grace rather keeps it that way to protect Jules and herself. The two share books, coffee and night walks together sometimes, and while Sigfrida is doing her best to pull Grace back, Grace is falling for Jules head over heels.
