Not a lot is known about Isolde. It’s actually been heavily debated among the other performers if Isolde even knows anything about herself because of how little she is willing to divulge. That being said, she has made a couple of facts about herself known, either on purpose or on accident.

The first, and probably the strangest, is that she is immortal. She refuses to elaborate more on this, outside of “I’m far older than I look. Now, shut your yap and pass me the whiskey.” No amount of pestering has ever succeeded in getting her to explain both how and why she is stuck in the body of someone in their mid-twenties.

Secondly, she’s not a clown. Well, she is a clown but that’s not her actual job. She’s the Ringmaster of the circus but masquerades as a clown because she hates being seen as a person of authority. She publicly claims that she is the “right-hand man” to the Ringmaster, who she says is a recluse but in reality, just doesn’t exist. Only Icarus and Margeaux know that she’s the Ringmaster and they’ve both signed something akin to an NDA, swearing that they will tell no one of her true role. They are further bound by this contract in that it was signed in blood.

Personality wise, she’s a “do no harm but take no shit” kinda gal. She won’t hurt you but she also won’t let you take advantage of her kindness. She and Margeaux had a difficult time coming to this understanding when Isolde kept finding dead bodies stuffed into the travel crates.

“Listen, Margs. I let you crash here at the circus for a couple of reasons. You’re a fantastic tightrope walker and if you were anywhere else, your proclivity for murder would be even less controllable than it is now. But I swear to the gods, if I see one more dead body anywhere in the circus grounds, I’m going to throw you into Scotland Yard so fast your head will spin.”

She rescued both Icarus and Alphonse from the streets after they escaped from the Richter-Bryson Observatory. While she adores them both, they’re also a huge time consumer. She’s tried to teach Alphonse how to speak for the last decade but he remains silent. She’s also tried, without success, to teach Icarus how to use sonar to get around outside of the circus grounds.

When she’s not trying to keep the circus from spiraling into bankruptcy, she’s actively keeping Margeaux and Icarus from tearing each other to shreds.
