Leon is the son of two shamans of the god of pestilence. As such he was supposed to become a shaman himself - a being that could almost be considered a demigod, due to the blood they share with their god. He had no desire to be a shaman, though, and with the god’s permission was allowed to leave their swampland home. There were already two shamans, a rare thing that hasn’t happened in over a thousand years, so a third wasn’t really needed.

He ended up traveling and joining a band of mercenaries, who weren’t very accepting of him at first. But while Leon can be slow to understand some things, considered an idiot by most, he is an exceptional fighter and becomes scarily serious when he does. Being the son of shamans, he has innate powers that allow him to ‘feel’ the world around him. He can sense when danger is near, his golden eyes taking on a soft glow whenever his powers begin to work on their own. And when he fights, he becomes a seemingly unstoppable force - his strength and speed are enhanced and it is as though he feels no pain. But, his powers have their limits and his body will practically shut down if he pushes himself for more than an hour when in that state - something that could be avoided if he performed (and survived) the ritual to become a full shaman.

Since once of his parents is a type shaman known as a dreamer, Leon has prophetic dreams on occasion. They’re not constant and he never knows when they will happen, but he knows to listen to them when he does have them. They’re always something important and bad things tend to happen when he ignores them. One such dream showed him the Seer’s temple in the desert and he knew he had to go there, that someone important was waiting for him. It took Leon a year to reach the temple, and while Cian knew someone was coming he wasn’t sure who it was or why as he can’t see his own future or the future of those directly tied to him. When Leon arrived, Cian was in a rather one sided argument with a patron - the other man doing most of the arguing. Said patron had offended the Seer during his last visit and Cian omitted details from the future he told the man. The man drew his sword and attempted to attack Cian, but Leon stepped in and stopped him - taking the man’s hand but not his life, though only because Cian yelled out for him not to kill the man. Leon promptly threw him out, tossing him a roll of bandages from his pack, then returned to the Seer and pledged his life and service to him. Cian ended up with a bodyguard he didn’t want, and who wouldn’t leave, and Leon had found the important person who had been missing from his life - quite content, despite the Seer’s cold attitude towards him.
