- Back in 2017, Dollshe announced they were going to be discontinuing their 28M Classic dolls, and they would be offering three (?) last chance sales. Cue the eyerolls, but I was fooled. Seeing this as my last chance to get my dream doll, Grant Philippe, I began saving up, thinking I would have enough for their last sale to begin in February. Well, that wasn't to be, because Dollshe later announced that they wouldn't do their February sale, and end things in December after only two ordering periods.
I allowed myself time to mourn, and afterwards figured that since I had saved up all this money already, I shouldn't stop now. So I began to look for something to save up for. Well, I had always loved Iplehouse, and set my eyes on getting an HID Bane in their special real skin through their Doll Choice. But then I noticed something, as I went to drool.
FID boys? I'd noticed the FID girls, and thought them quite pretty, but I don't really collect girl dolls. And that size wasn't exactly my preference, because for the main, dolls in that size tended to reflect a younger, more cutesy aesthetic. And while I enjoyed seeing those dolls, I wasn't one who could own them happily.
But FID boys? Little versions of their larger dolls? In my budget? Well, how could I resist?
At the time, they only had Arvid, Lawrence, and Felix. I loved Lawrence's masculine look, but Arvid had such lovely angles that I couldn't resist. I was able to not only get him, but also get him the outfit, with shoes, and an extra pair of hands. I had no idea what I wanted to do with him, but gosh, he's so pretty!
- Best Points:
- Let's talk about sculpting. He is Arvid on the HID body in miniature. His face has wonderful angles and planes that made it an absolute joy to make up. The expression lines between his brows combined with the slight smile to his lips allow for intense expressions. I absolutely adore his hands. They have the veins and lines, but also elegance and expression. It has really made me love blushing hands, even at that scale.
The veins are throughout his body - feet, arms, legs, and torso. They're subtle, much more so than the site pictures would have you believe. Even though I blushed them, they aren't prominent in my pictures.
His musculature is very well done. It's not as exaggerated as many other dolls out there - and I speak as one who loves big, beefy boys. It isn't overwhelming and still feels very natural and realistic.
Onto more technical matters. He's very well made. His joints fit well together and he's quite stable. I wouldn't leave him alone standing, but I'm able to get him standing on the ground outdoors without worrying about him falling over. I didn't need to do any modifications or alterations to get him to stand up or hold poses.
When it comes to poses, he may not have a wide range, but those he has are natural and realistic. He even is able to "fall" into poses that are natural - I have a picture on my phone of him having done just that, and it looks like he was posed that way. It makes it easy to take pictures of him, as he won't really go into a pose that's not humanly possible.
His resin color is consistent throughout and a lovely color. I'm a fan of tan for life! It has a slightly toothy texture, which I very much enjoy.
- Worst Points:
- Worst aspect about this doll is his posing. But I knew what I was getting into with him. I've heard many reports on the limited posing Iplehouse dolls - especially their boys - are able to do, and I've owned a big, beefy boy in the past (Soom Megagem). I was surprised he could do what he can so well, but I still have some issues with him.
He does't like to sit, and it takes effort on my part to get him there. It's a balancing act to keep him there, as well, and it's a very upright, formal position - not at all relaxed. Not without something keeping him upright. This is taking into account I got him with the mobility joint.
But again, none of this came as a surprise to me, and I was expecting much worse.
More nitpicky details are his seam lines. He has them, but they aren't that bad. I just don't like seam lines on my dolls.
His head is a little small for his body. I think it's to accommodate any wigs that might be put on him, since at that size, they tend to be more poofy. Putting a wig on him really negates the feel of his head being so small, and with the horns he has, you really don't notice it.
