Shan is a forgotten god. That is, no one worships him anymore, and no one remembers anymore what he was god of. However, as he still has godly powers, people tend to be afraid of him and give in pretty quickly when he wants something, especially as he is known to have somewhat of a temper. His pageboy Connery is one of the few willing to stand up to him without fearing the consequences, and his temper has actually calmed down quite a bit since he met Connery.
