Reason for choice:

fell in love when I first saw company photos of this doll, and couldn't get her out of my mind for almost a year until I finally caved and got her.

Best Points:

gorgeous face and body design, lovely resin texture and surprisingly lightweight compared to my other smaller SD

Worst Points:

single-jointed legs limit posing possibilities, and the way the head is designed means she can't tilt her head upwards

Name story:

I knew I wanted her nickname to be Miko, but debated between making her full first name Mikoto or Sumiko, ended up liking the latter more. Eury and Miko both have their original sculpt names as middle names, and I wanted a japanese surname that sounded good with her full name, and liked Nanase

Born deaf in her right ear and with her younger brother completely deaf, Sumiko grew up learning sign-language and feeling at home in the Deaf community. She excelled in sports like basketball and competitive swimming but found herself struggling academically, and even before realizing she was gay, she had always felt like she existed in her own little bubble, away from the rest of the world. Once she got into a highly acclaimed private university on a sports scholarship, she took a part-time job as a student-teacher in a sign-language class, and it's in that classroom where she first met her now-girlfriend Eurydice. The two girls, though very different in their hobbies and talents, seem to be in perfect balance, and support one another through the trials they face - whether it's Miko helping and comforting Eury on her low-spoons days and making sure she practices her signing often, or Eury helping Miko study when her dyslexia causes her frustration and cheering her girlfriend on at her basketball games and swim meets. Most of all, however, they make each other happy just by being their most authentic selves together.
