    Provenance:
Head purchased directly from Granado, body via ACBJD
    Reason for choice:
I fell in love with Michael's sculpt at first sight -- his expression could be interpreted in different ways depending on the angle, which suits the character I had for him
    Best Points:
    Head -- the expressiveness

Body -- very good posing for its size, good resin for the price
    Worst Points:
Head -- for some reason, Granado made his head smaller than the previous Solar System series, and this resulted in setbacks for finding a body to hybrid him with

Body -- IMPLdoll Idol Male FGB legs keep trying to cross when I attempt standing poses, and I may have to restring or suede him to fix this

Guórén is written as 國仁 -- the character for "country" followed by "benevolence". Note that as per naming tradition, his birth surname is Zhèng while his given name is Guórén.

    Detailed family tree here.

A person of dubious ancestry, he was the illegitimate son of Zhèng Fēiyàn, a Han Chinese woman, and an unknown Portuguese merchant. Her family used to do extensive trading with Japan prior to the shogun's isolationist policies. She was abandoned in Japan to fend for herself when her family found out that she had relations with a foreigner (who also was forced to leave the country as per the new laws). Although Guórén spent the first few years of his life destitute and discriminated upon due to his "barbaric" appearance, he was suddenly taken on by a childless and eccentric samurai who held the rank of police lieutenant. Whether due to the stresses of his youth or genetics, he had grey hair streaked with white by the age of twenty, which made him appear older than he really was.

Always desiring to prove himself as "Japanese" enough, he was in ways more inflexible than his mentor and more ruthless in dealing with what he viewed as threats to the status quo. He would eventually be adopted by his mentor and given the name Takashima Jinsuke -- the name of his mentor's only biological child who, for refusing to recant his foreign religious beliefs, was executed in Unzen two decades prior. Despite finally having the full rights of his adoptive father's rank, he still retained a lot of self-doubt as to his identity. It didn't really help that Ozaki Kaguya, whose operations he was determined to end, turned out to be more intertwined with his childhood than he would have liked -- and that she had a hand in setting him down his current path.

Note: Although he was married to the younger sister of a woman originally betrothed to the first Takashima Jinsuke, he was widowed within a year of his marriage because something in Nagasaki didn't agree with his wife's health. The mother of his children, the fraternal twins Kokiden (murdered by a rival during infancy) and Kokichi (later legitimized as Takashima Koremitsu) was Adhara/Ozaki Kaguya.
