A change in personality

Nov 14, 2012

    1. Has anyone else ever had a doll a long time, had a back story set up for them and then suddenly one day, because of something new like eyes or a wig, you decide that it doesn't work anymore and you completely re-make them in a way.
I ordered a pair of eyes for my first doll a few weeks ago, they were supposed to be pink but they came in as an off white color. I put them in her and loved them, but realized she didn't look like 'her' anymore. Now I'm thinking through a completely new identity for her since the eyes look so much more sinister.
I guess it's been a transformation over time, from moving from a natural colored wig to a bright red one and then the eyes just added the last touch.

I was just wondering what other stories of this were and what people ended with from the 'transformation'.

    2. Yes. It happened with my Jie Doll Michel. He started out as Ashley, a security officer. As the character developed, I began to severely dislike him. He turned out really religious and conservative and impossible to play.....but I loved the doll and didn't want to sell him, so I gave him a new faceup, eyes, wig....nothing clicked. Until one day, just playing around, I stuck a blond Monique Paris wig on him, thinking it would look absolutely awful with his dark skin....but it was perfect. At that instant, he became Mithra, the street corner guitarist, the tramp artist, the boho guy. I like him so much better than I ever did as Ashley.

Another recent small change is that Parker, a character I've had for 2 years, just "informed me" that he's 11, not 9. I like him better this way, 9 was too childish.

    3. It happened to me with my first doll when I saw him his personality was shy and innocent but 6 years later I just positioned his eyes differently and his whole personality changed. It was the craziest thing that I have ever witnessed.

    4. Oh yes. This happened with my Blue Blood Waltz. He started out as Lucas... a very sleep deprived, coffee addicted, emotionless, deadpan, Aspie computer hacker/cyber detective. Then, his cousin, Spencer, started popping into my head. Spencer is very different from Lucas.... smart mouthed, brash, conceited, richer-than-god businessman, boho, musician, artist, actor...

At first, they were sharing... a quick wig and eye change, different outfit, and new posing took one to the other. Then, next thing I know, this IS Spencer and Lucas is just out of luck...

    5. Caleb, my DZ Floy is in the middle of this, actually. XD;

It all started when I wound up buying some Souldoll cat eyes. And ultimately decided that the yellow ones were "too yellow" for what I was going to do with them/wound up deciding that I'd use the striking lime green pair instead. And then the yellow cat eyes wound up being tried in Caleb for fun. Only they were RIDICULOUSLY STRIKING. But, I'd grown so accustomed to Caleb's ruby red Hujoo cat eyes that he had on before that, that he didn't look like "Caleb" anymore. And then I ordered this wig for him. And now he looks even LESS like himself. I am amused by the little "tail" on that wig, though. But, now I need to figure out what direction I'm going to take him. I might need to bring out his spare head and give it a dramatic faceup like I'd been planning but procrastinating on. Just to suit the new wig and eyes.

    6. All my dolls have undergone this at some point, as I never buy dolls with a character in mind before hand (and if I do that character ends up completely different). So basically, this happened with Cass as soon as he came home. He was going to be popular, cool, clever and naughty. I stuck the wig I'd ordered on him and suddenly he went from 'popular' to introspective, shy, awkard, teen loner who loves poetry. It also had something to do with the face-up I'd given him. the all over freckling and soft sad eyes made him so much more withdrawn that he turned out to be a totally different character. It's also happened with my Hosoo. When I took her out of the box she had the blanche face-up. I hated the blanche face- up SO much. I had wanted the noir, but it sold out before I could get my hands on it. So I wiped her default and gave her the best approximation of my beloved noir face-up. When I compared her to the pictures though, i realised that my work was much darker and more sultry than the default. Then I bought some silvery grey eyeco eyes for her and it snowballed from there. She became Jenevieve, a favourite character of mine from another story.

    7. It has happened several times with my dolls.

    8. I'm in the same point as Teruchan... my dolls don't have pre-set characters so they're constantly in evolution. But I think that's natural progression; after all I'm not exactly the same person I was 5 or 10 years ago :)

    9. Yep. It's happened on numerous occasions. One of them switched back and forth a couple of times before ending up back where she started in terms of personality, but then I left the change of eyes in since they are more flattering. I used to be real rock solid on the characters but less so on the bodies, now I've flip flopped where I have a very strong idea of what I want my doll family to physically look like, but the characters seem to come and go more often.

    10. My Doll Leaves Noir was all set up to be a futuristic-looking elf with blue hair but that wig didn't fit so I used a green one just to see if 8/9 wig was the right size and suddenly he was an entirely different elf.

    11. Guy I don't even have home yet...I saw a different doll on an MP on another site then what I had intended and Noah who was gonna be a boy informed me he was indeed a shy nerdy girl who was named Noah. I basically gotta get all the other aspects OF Noah's boy form now..(Hoodies, glasses, messy longish wig) Only make it girly. Not too bad considering I was having second thoughts about Noah's previous sculpt form anyways. I like this doll better. It's cheaper I can practice a face up that is truly Noah's look and I could probably squeeze this one into an American Girl dress until I can make pants. Win win.

    12. Yeah, I've been there, I gave my girl a faceup and due to some miss-information on sealant, I ruined her completely, I worked for weeks to try and remove the sealant residue and she started to look more and more like a doll-zombie and I kinda got tired of trying to fix it, so i just rolled with it and started to do a full out zombie mod, I ordered a new Lucy and my ruined one became Zombie Lucy, she is the same character from a different reality where she died and was raised as an undead abomination.

    13. Yup. For a long time my Rory didn't have much of a personality and just served to be dressed up in clothing and wigs. However, as my sewing skills have grown and I've finally learned how to do faceups, I've finally started giving her a character. She's now a pretty odd but friendly girl who's part of a sun cult and loves fast cars and motorcycles.

    14. Yep, this happens to my Ent, Lorelei. I had her planned originally as a fairy (my only fairy) with pupilless gold eyes and black hair with a bubbly, yet quiet personality. When she came home, she came with a blonde wig, green eyes. She somehow developed a playful nerd personality and scene fashion sense when I was playing around with some colorful fabric one day. I think the new look fits her better.
