A Couple Of Quick Questions About The Minimee Body?

Jan 1, 2014

    1. I'm having a really hard time finding inexpensive shoes to fit my two boys on the SD Minimee boy body. The site says 8cm but the pairs I have that are 8cm are actually way too small. Their feet are almost 9 cm actually. I know these aren't very popular bodies but surely a few people out there own one and maybe can point me in the direction of some basic shoes that fit that don't cost $30 and up? Sneakers would be fine, but I just can't seem to find anything that's inexpensive that is that size. Could use a few suggestions there.

Also, I'm thinking I'm going to have to sand down the ball joints on my white body a bit. I don't quite get why, unless my NS one is a later model, but on my WS body the elbow and knee balls are just huge and the limbs don't quite fit well into their sockets as a result. The NS body is fine. Everything seems much more in proportion? Anyone have any info on this? I was actually under the impression that they were both the same body, just different colors, but there are some differences. The NS one just seems a bit better made and it's just a bit shorter besides when you put them next to each other. Were there two versions of this body? Did they make improvements at some point? Just curious.

They're supposed to be this body, both of them.

I like the body for the most part. I think the musculature is good and I particularly like the look of the rear end on them for some reason. I just think their behinds are too cute, lol, but it does seem to me that the one is definitely better made than the other and that seems odd to me considering they're supposed to both be the same body. The previous owner of the one did make some adjustments to the torso as I recall, but otherwise they should be identical and they are not actually. The WS one is very awkward and bulky compared to the NS one, particularly the joint balls.

      Thanks!

    2. magkelly, could your WS body be a DIM Toru body? DIM has discontinued it, but it was similar to the Minimee body, just a little taller.

Re: the shoes, Dollshe standard shoes fit, but you can also check a site that gives the actual shoe size and width (for instance, Mint on Card).

    3. I found a pic and I'd say definitely not. They're almost identical except for the upper torso side mod thing that was done. It's just the white one seems bigger and clumsier somehow than the NS one. The joint balls are just much bigger for some reason. The NS doll they just seem to fit better in the sockets and move a little better. I think maybe he's just a bit better made. Maybe it was a question of which mold they used? Maybe they have some for NS and some for WS and they just weren't 100% identical? So far I've done the suede thing in the hip joints and around the upper torso on both dolls but I think I am going to do the knee and arm joints on both too once I've finished with the joint alterations on the WS boy. I've also got to slim down his neck a bit. Color-wise it's a great match but the neck is a bit thick for the MA Kelly head. If the WS body is ever going to work right I'm going to have to do something about the size of his joint balls. They're so big that he just keeps falling apart when he sits because they won't stay in the sockets. I've restrung both bodies as tight as I dare so it shouldn't be happening, wouldn't be I don't think unless they just don't fit right. He came with some round silicone pads between but they didn't seem to help much and looked awful so I just removed them eventually. I see no point in leaving them in if they won't help. I'm thinking I might try some silicone ear plugs in between though, just to see if they might not help cushion him a bit better. I'm not crazy about hot glue but I might have to resort to it I guess.

    4. That's strange, you may be right about different molds being used. Maybe you could Dremel out the joint sockets a little bigger, so the balls fit better. Glue sueding is removable if you don't like how it works. Good luck with your project, sounds like a big one!

    5. Years ago I had more than one MNM body - both in WS and NS, and I never saw any of the problems you are having with yours. They were all pretty much exactly the same. What year are yours from? I had mine in '07 and '08.

As for shoes, mine all fit this size:

      http://www.mintoncardinc.com/dolls/item_details.php?BJD=617&name=Blue+Sneakers+(8.5cm)&cat=49

      And also this brand:

      http://www.mintoncardinc.com/dolls/item_details.php?BJD=1641&name=YH+873-9302+-+Black+(8.7cm)&cat=49

They essentially wore the same shoes as my Delf boys, although their feet were a little wider and longer.

    6. I have the NS MNM body from 2009 and it did have rough joints that didn't fit together well. I lived with him like that for years before I decided to do something about it. I both sanded the ball part of all the joints and smoothed out and enlarged the sockets. I also rounded the wrist balls and worked on the torso joint so he could actually slouch and not snap back. He's much better behaved now. If you bought the NS body used it may be that someone just did all the joints, although if the NS body is newer maybe DIM did improve things at some point.

The feet on mine measures exactly 8 cm. The 8-8.7 M-style shoes should fit, with the exception of some of the slip-ons. I have a pair of the Converse-style high tops and they fit fine.

    7. I bought both of my Minimee bodies used from two different people so I really have no idea of what vintage. I'm going to work on the WS body and do what's suggested above and I will try those shoes. (Thanks!) I have two pairs that are supposed to be 8.5cm and neither one of them fits unfortunately. I may be shifting my Kelly head to another body and using this one for another doll for a while. I think I eventually do want to pick up the WS Magical Angel body body for him. Technically he fits this body and it's a great color match but it's an awkward fit neck-wise. He looks a bit too long necked on it and it's been bugging me a bit. I'm going to be working on paying off an older Ringdoll head and size-wise and color-wise he looks to be a better fit for the WS Minimee. He's a grail doll for me though and there's no way he's going to go on that body unless I work on those joints and the torso a bit. He's got to be PERFECT even if I have to beat that body into submission with a dremel, suede and sand it till I'm cranky...:P

    8. The dimension listed on those shoes is certainly the inside. The only problem with the slip-on types is the opening might not be big enough to get the toes through. This body seems to have wide feet. My other suggestion would be any shoes made for the Impldoll Star man body, their feet are the same size and width. Unfortunately DDE doesn't seem to carry them anymore. Pity nobody seems to make sock feet, it would make getting shoes that don't look like aircraft carriers easier. :|

Your description of the WS body is very similar to how mine was, and I bought it new. The good thing about this body is that it is solid, so you have plenty of resin for any modifications.

    9. I'm about to dremel their feet just so I can get them into some nice shoes and boots, seriously. I need to get some more safety masks. I can't use the only one I've got right now for resin. I need a higher safety level mask. But I'm going to take a trip later in the week to the hardware store and go for it. I definitely have some modding and sanding to do. FYI, I have 3 pairs of shoes, different makes, all supposedly 8.5 cm and not one of them fits these guys. They just need to have smaller feet, that's just it. It's going to happen, grin. Eh, this is why I have a rotary tool, right?
