1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

A General Poll to promote some general discussion

Oct 1, 2014

    1. I think we've all noticed that the same subjects get brought up again and again when talking about BJDs--but which topic is the most widely talked about and universal. Which topic is king? :dance

Do these topics still feel relevant and fresh? Which ones do you like discussing best and why?

What do you think? Give your opinion below. It'll be fun to see what who the Grand Champion of BJD discussions is.

( I wanted to post a poll but it wouldn't let me for some mysterious reason)

    2. I do not personally visit the site much anymore. Before i had my first doll i was on here all the time learning anything i can, now i kinda keep them to myself.
I feel most of the topics are redundant and kinda boring, though i do usually find a thread or two I'm interested in.

Not sure if it is because I dont need to learn anymore, so i dont have much reason to stick around or because there isn't anything interesting here, to me.

    3. hmm I like the concept creation discussions. Those are always fun. I get a little snarky about "boys in the hobby whooooooo what omg" discussions, because I feel like it shouldn't matter what gender you are. This isn't the girls bathroom. I also like the "I took my bjd out in public and it was___" stories.

    4. I tend to say my piece whenever there's a topic that touches on gender presentation/expression or disability, but there often isn't a reason for me to come back and say more...

Every so often I search to see if there are any doll cosplays for fandoms I'm involved in, and when I'm going to be free I check on meets, but I guess I just don't often get very engaged in back and forth discussions in the general discussion forum.

    5. It was nice to read the responses so far.

I wonder if there is a way to maybe broaden the scope of the GD thread? While I love talking about the subjects that are already there it would be nice to maybe have a little something else. idk how that would happen though :sweat

    6. I think part of the burn out on conversations stems from the set-up- we're only supposed to have a single thread on a topic at a time, so they get long and old and it's not really a conversation so much as 15 pages of people responding to the OP. There are other forums I'm on where topics come up over and over again, and people are allowed to make new threads- they tend to be shorter, and people engage in them a bit more, and older members keep coming back because the questions are slightly different, or their perspective has changed, etcetera. With a forum of this size, I can certainly see why the staff would prefer a single thread option per topic, but every choice has a drawback.

    7. On the subject of new threads, members sometimes make new threads about topics that are being discussed in a thread still happening on the same page, and in that case they might be merged together.

It depends though, if they are not asking exactly the same thing and the OP has a slightly different angle on the topic, it stays put as it's own thread. Not every thread gets auto-merged for being similar. In routine maintenance somewhere down the line (more than a year later) the threads may end up merged, but we tend to leave them separate when they are new. It is nice for a new thread to appear, it's nice for an OP to get fresh and direct input to their specific talking point. Threads are only closed when they reach 1,000 posts, which can take years. But we are not so hardcore about making everyone stick to one thread as we one were.

I am not sure, ten years into the hobby, there can be a bunch of fresh points for discussion. I can't think of a topic for doll related discussion thread that I have not responded to. I feel like retyping my point of view into multiple threads becomes redundant for people to read, and I don't want to bore people by saying the same thing over and over. But maybe each thread has so many new readers, that they don't know I've said such a thing before, I have been here a long time, so maybe what I have to say is fresh depending on the reader. As a member, I can feel very stuck in the same way. As a staff member I wonder what can be done to make Discussion more fresh. (But bringing in more OT chat or having the gender/age breakdown specific threads is not an option, just as an fyi)
