Am I mad (buying a lot of dolls in one go)

Sep 2, 2013

    1. Essentially the story is my Dad is selling his house and moving to Mexico, he's giving my brother and I a quarter of the selling price as an early inheritance and we can do with it as we please.

I have seen six dolls I want and my fiance has basically said it's my money I can do as I please. So when I get the money in a few weeks I'll be ordering six dolls, two from Iplehouse YID Andrew and Emilia, one from Dear Mine Rachel and three from Withdoll Kyle, Emma and Ruby. That's six dolls arriving probably within the space of a few weeks of each other (maybe even days).

Am I mad for ordering these dolls I've loved for so long but couldn't afford or am I a lucky crazy lady?

I'm going to be sewing my fingers to the bone clothing them...I'm pretty excited about this prospect (check one for crazy lady).

What do you guys think and if you had the chance would you buy a bumper lot of dolls?

    2. I think you're extremely lucky to be in this kind of position :)

Personally, I probably wouldn't order a lot of dolls in one go, but that's mainly because I like to play with one doll at a time (two at the most) and having a lot of dolls arrive together would be more than I could deal with! But, the only way I discovered that I'm like this was by buying a few dolls at a time and finding out how I reacted.

I ordered my first four dolls pretty much one after another and I felt swamped when they started to come in. All of the dolls I bought back then have since been sold because I either didn't bond very well with them or I found dolls I preferred instead.

All the dolls you're ordering are lovely, so I hope everything works out well for you. You might want to start a project journal about the epic clothing project!

    3. Haha I probably will, I've been getting so many ideas for them I'm being kept awake at night planning :D

    4. I'm like Jescissa in that I feel overwhelmed if too many new dolls arrive together! I went a bit mad last year and got loads of dolls on order from companies, ebay etc. then I felt stressed as I didn't have clothes/shoes/wigs for them all - but you have money to buy clothes etc, and you can sew, so that's no problem! If I was in your position financially I would order one doll a month - spread the fun out longer - although knowing the way of things they might all arrive together anyway! Oh and don't forget to save some for import taxes too - You may get lucky but best have a fund saved up just incase, or they return to sender *horrors*

as for sleepless nights well that's obsession for you LOL

    5. Lucky not mad! What an awesome position to be in! I don't know what I'd do if that happened. I'd probably sit and fret and run through a dozen notepads trying to figure out what to do. XD Enjoy it! :) I will say that the one time I had multiple dolls come home at once was a smudge overwhelming, but that was because I opened them in a tiny room and was pretty much swimming in packing materials. XD

    6. You are one lucky, crazy lady!
I think I would personally stagger them a bit, maybe ordering them in 2-3 doll intervals with clothes/acessories in between. Even with all the money dolls are a lot of energy to get the character right, so getting 6 at a time sounds like it can be quite overwhelming! Recently Ive been working on revamping my collecting, and with the money I went out and purchased a few new dolls I have been planning for a long while. Though Im excited to have them home I worry about bonding and stuff with so many new faces fighting for my attention all at once @.@

    7. I have this image of me swimming in packaging cackling wildly. I will admit, if you look in the dictionary for the word sanity you won't find my picture, being somewhat nuts runs in the family but I'm so freaking excited. One of the dolls I can't order until 1st December because it isn't out until then so I'm staggering it ever so slightly.

    8. Catopolis I would probably go nuts just like you. I have an addiction I cant just stop buying! I myself am waiting on a few dolls so its nothing to feel bad about enjoy it!

    9. To be really fair, yes you are very fortunate and I would most likely order 6 dolls at once, but don't you think you should keep some tucked away for emergency's?

      ( I can't believe I'm saying this! )

My sensible head says order maybe a couple and get the others later, that way you can enjoy them individually and appreciate them more. If you get them all at once they will not feel as special.

Unless they are limited then go for your life!

Also by ordering them one at a time you are prolong the pleasure and you never know whats coming up, something you desperately want may be bought out and you couldn't afford it!

( Order them and panic for a bit, then just think to your self I've ordered them now, I can't cancel!)

Don't let it burn a hole in your pocket!

I'm gonna be looking forward to that box opening! lol

EY up its the Liverpool Massive ! lol

    10. I have to say I am with some people over this, I feel Its better to get one doll at a time so that you can get the most out of each one. If it were me I would get one, fuss over it like crazy, spend money on many beautiful things for it , then go for a second one and so on. I would find it over whelming to have so many at once lol. I have two coming in November and I'm not sure how I'm gonna cope with both them lol. But then again if thats what makes you happy and they are the dolls you really want then go nuts.

    11. I feel that it would probably be better to get them all at once, then work on their clothes one at a time. That way, no matter what, you will have them. Since the dolls aren't impulse purchases you don't need to worry about spending a lot of money all at once on dolls you might not love

    12. Getting one or two at a time will help make the elation last, too. If you order all the dolls you want from a certain company at the same time, you can feel the exhilaration of bringing the pretties home but still keep some excitement for the next set of dolls you bring home.

Also, in the meantime, you can take some of that inheritance and make it work for you. I sound like my dad saying this, but if you invest the rest of your money (after buying a couple of dolls), you can actually make more money to buy more dolls later. Short-term gains, long-term gains, it's all up to you. But that way, you're making money and saving a bit in case something comes up, and you also get to bring home some dolls you really love.

I would not say you are mad; you are fortunate. I suggest not buying all of them at once. Rather, invest some money to earn more money. Buy a few dolls now and a few later. That's my advice. :)

    13. You're not mad, but you're definitely really lucky~ just make sure not to spend "all" your money in one go!

    14. Haha I'm definitely not spending all of it, I have plans for money for my savings and such. No worries there.

    15. I don't think you're mad if they're dolls you've had your heart set on for a while. Life is too short & if you're in a position to get them then go for it.....but do save some of your inheritance for a rainy day ;) That way you are a crazy but sensible you

    16. If that's what you want, that's awesome. I think you'll be so happy. If it was me I wouldn't probably buy more than 2 or 3 at first and wait for Christmas/New Years events so your money goes even farther ya know? I hope you'll post pics of all your new dolls. I'm not familiar with all those sculpts. I'm going to have to go check them out!! Congrats to you!

    17. Simple answer No. You might not have the option again to buy them all. I just got a tax rebate and first thing I desided was doll XD

    18. I wouldn't say you're mad; you are pretty lucky. However, I personally wouldn't want to get more than one doll at a time. I find it feels way better, and not as much of a massive amount of money if I order a doll after another arrives. ^.^' That said, it's entirely up to you, and I shall be here, wishing I had your brilliant luck. :)

    19. No, I don't think you're mad at all. If you are in a position to get those 6 dolls without hurting you financially, and it's what you want, nobody can tell you otherwise. I actually find it hard to order only one doll at a time, and I rarely do. I never get overwhelmed, either. If it makes you happy, get your dollies <3

    20. Ooh, this would be fun to watch!

I don't think you're crazy at all; you're in a lucky position and taking advantage of it. Just be sensible with the rest of your newfound fortune and enjoy the dollapalooza! And since you're ordering direct from company, you'll have a bit of a wait time so you can prepare for their arrival. Time to pick up those spare eyes and wigs! ;)
