1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Am I the only one that thinks 1 BJD is enough?

May 30, 2013

    1. As much as I'd love to own the BJD's on my wishlist I think 1 BJD is enough for me. Does anyone feel the same?
Well I am a student so its not like I can afford another another one anyway but since I'm UK most clothes and etc for my BJD cost a lot with the shipping and the things I can get are limited. Not to mention once I get something new I am more likely to care less about the old one which wouldn't be good. I think I'd rather save up money to make my current doll perfect than buy more for example get a better body or a sleeping head or the perfect outfit etc...
      Anyone with similar thoughts?
      :?

    2. I half agree with you. :) As I live in the UK also, I completely feel for you when it comes to shipping. Shipping prices are often higher than the clothes/wigs/whatever else that you want to buy! For this reason it's really hard (especially if you have no doll friends) to get you BJD perfected without spending a fortune trying things out. I bought my first BJD and was completely satisfied for a while, but I could never quite get her right and after a while I realised I was itching for more dolls, I felt I needed to try all the other types of doll, otherwise how would I know which was right for me? Plus I felt like my doll was lonely, so I ordered another, then 2 more because I fell in love with a limited white skin and she needed a friend too. Now I have 2 dolls (kind of 3 actually) and I know I want more and I accept that. I think you're right, but just owning 1 doll isn't for me.

    3. Ah I see, I also think that my doll seems a bit lonely so I'll probably save up for another doll once I'm satisfied with my current one and get her complete however it is gonna take a long while haha :...(

    4. Even though I'm starting to plan for a second, if I had to stop, I'd honestly be satisfied with the one I have. I love making things for my doll, not collecting the dolls themselves; my real motivation for a second doll is to have the other gender to dress and armor and whatnot.

Every collector is different, though, with different priorities! I couldn't see owning more than two or three, but some people have fifty and love them all. :)

    5. I lasted I believe it was six whole months with one doll, and that whole time I thought exactly what you do now. Then I realised the potential that many dolls can bring and that was me sold, so no, it wasn't right for me, but if one makes you happy, enjoy your one and have fun.

As an aside, I'm also in the UK and the trick to not spending a fortune on shipping is to use EU dealers and get crafty. Genuinely, the only things my friends and I now import at all are glass eyes, MSC and shoes. Everything else we either get within the EU or the UK, or make ourselves. It's actually EASIER and I find it more fun to have the challenge :) It's taught me a wealth of skills I otherwise wouldn't have, that's for sure!

Also, my first doll (infamously) remains the most spoilt thing known to mankind amidst a sea of spoilt resin here and is still my favourite after seven years, so I can safely say the novelty never wore off for me even after all the others came home so basically...this:

    6. I live in the UK, and have two dolls at home, and many on the way! I'm only 19 too!
I find a lot of dealers these days will mark down, especially if you ask them, and I also will buy second-hand, from the EU :)
I think if you want another doll, save up!

    7. I think it's great to be satisfied with one doll, I think it might even be better! But I fell into the trap of wanting to 'try' different sizes, genders and skin tones. I am very strict with myself now and will only buy a doll id it is sufficiently different to the ones I have!!
Loneliness is an issue though and I think it's a trap most BJD people fall into, no one wants their doll to feel alone, we're sentimental fools!!

Edit: When it comes to importing, I find it hard to find what I want in the EU, it's Leekworld wigs that are the Killer! I buy MSC from a hobby website in the UK, it's fast and reasonable!

    8. Ah I see, I think after I'm satisfied with my current BJD I will save up for a doll chateau doll. Since you're also in the UK I was wondering if you know any affordable BJD clothes shops? :sweat

    9. Angelesque often has cheaper clothes, and I find a lot of Etsy people DO mark down, especially if you ask them! I order a lot of clothes from overseas and have yet to be hit with a customs charge on anything!

I also sew some stuff :)

    10. Yes Angelesque is amazing however I don't often find the things I want there. I think I will try Etsy thanks :fangirl:

    11. I'm actually the same way. At one point I had three dolls, but I only ever played with one because I have a hard time spreading out my love, so I sold them. I am satisfied with just one or two, and to make things cheaper they are both MSD girls, so they can share clothes. I could never imagine owning a dozen dolls or more like some people I know! That sounds crazy and unmanageable.

    12. There are quite a few of us who have only one doll. I believe there's even a thread about owning only one. For me, I've never really wanted just the one, I think it's more fun to have more. The fact that I admire different sculptors doesn't help; I'd like to get some of their work as well.

Thing is, I've never been in the situation where the older doll was losing my attention. My favorite changes on a weekly basis. Sometimes it's my Madoka, sometimes it's my Iru, sometimes my Kamau; if anything, buying a new doll makes me appreciate my whole collection that much more!

How many dolls you feel comfortable owning is different from person to person. Some prefer to own one doll, others feel their collection is complete when they've just bought their 40st. As with anything in this hobby, there isn't really a right or wrong way to collect.

    13. I wish I was satisfied with just one doll, it would be so much cheaper :)

I buy at least one doll every month, usually more and I don't see me stop buying. That doesn't mean I love the older ones less though.

    14. Ah I see...I also have so many sculpts that I would love to own but however like I said I lose interest on the old easily. Also I never said its wrong to have 1 or more I'm just curious if I'm the weird one since so many people have more than 1 doll haha :)

    15. For almost 2 years after buying my first dollie I was happy with just him... then I got with my fiance who bought me my second doll for my birthday and then a third one for our first annversary and after that I decided that one of my dolls needed a twin and then another needed a boyfriend and from there it was a long and expensive downward spiral...

    16. Personally, I never thought I'd have just one. When I got my 'one' I immediately wanted another one. :sweat Each sculpt speaks differently to me so I'd rather have the ability to showcase each doll's personality rather than try to make one have many different personalities. (If that makes sense)

I don't think anyone is weird for owning just one doll since you can change the eyes/wig/clothes to make it a different doll but there's just too much variety out there for me to want to own just one. >w>

    17. As others have mentioned, every collector is different. I'm used to owning dolls- always have, always will! Bjds are only my latest doll collection, and since childhood I've always had large collections of a particular type of doll. Thus, when I got into BJDs, I knew I was going to have more than one before I'd even purchased the first. I'm currently still a student myself, but I budget carefully, make all my own clothes, do all my own face-ups and only rarely buy Limited or fullset items, so I've managed to build up a pretty good sized collection.

I think it's fine to feel that only one is enough, just like I feel like I'll know when I've finished my collection.

    18. When I ordered my first I thought that I would only have him or buy one more for him to have a friend. Yeah right, I now have nine and they seem to be getting more and more expensive as I learn more and see more that I just have to have:)

    19. For me, I felt that my one doll would be enough, (I haven't even received her yet T_T). But as I am waiting for my first Bjd, I am half tempted to purchase another >_< I never thought that I would ever consider more than one, but I think my limit would be two. I just want to enjoy my first doll for about a year or more. Before I go purchasing another.. I don't know.. there are just so many beautiful dolls!! :...(

    20. Well I have an addictive personality once I get into something I go crazy, I have about 30 dolls and im waiting on 13 more. I really wish I could be happy with just one or two. One thing I have found with clothes is that some ebay sellers do free shipping on clothes and acessories or if you search for sale items you can grab a bargain. Ive also ordered a few times from dollmore they mark the prices down and ive never been hit by customs when it comes to the clothes. I put alot of effort into searching out items and doll, I have also used etsy like the others have sugested.
