Arg! Why are all boys so big??

May 28, 2014

1. It seems like boy/male dolls keep getting bigger, and bigger, and beefier! While options for slim short males are shrinking. The Junior Delfs are gone, and it's hard to find a 55 cm boy!

What do you think of this trend?

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?

Do you love the big super hunks?

Do you want more options?

I am frustrated by the lack of options. I recently held a Soom Super Gem crocodile boy and jeez! I already go to the gym and lift weights! I don't want a doll so heavy I can't pose/play with it. And suddenly every new boy is like 80 cm! I don't like HUGE dolls. I like 65 cm and down. I have only one girl bigger than that and she rarely leaves the house.

Plus so many male sculpts are so effeminate (not that I'm complaining) that they look weird on these big hulking boy bodies. Also, I don't mind if my boys are the same height as my girls.

2. I prefer them to be built.

Scrawny little boys are not to my liking to be honest.

3. 1. I'm for it!
2. I'm not a fan of the thin guy look in a bigger doll. I know there -are- lanky and lean men but it's not my taste.
3. Not SUPER big. I like Iple's SID male build.
4. Hmm. I'd like the slender, but decidedly not scrawny, Iple JID boy model body in a larger doll.

4. I'm with you on this one. I really dislike the look of overly muscular men and would like to see a normal adult male. Not the former CP delf bodies (they looked more like young teenagers), but a guy with broad shoulders, but without the muscle definition that has the subtlety of a brick wall.

The body builder type look HAS become a trend, not only in the doll hobby, but also in television. When I look up older tv shows, from the mid-90's to early 2000, the average actor looked thin, but wasn't overly muscular. Now, it seems like all characters in the show have nothing better to do than spend their entire time at the gym.

I'd just love to see more variety.

5. I have the exact same opinion as you do. Everyone is going bigger and bigger with their guys and I think it's kind of ridiculous. Especially since, as you mentioned, I don't think half the heads look good with a -6% body-fat-and-muscles-bulging-out-everywhere body. If they could make a body that was big but not so ripped, it wouldn't be as bad...but it's like the more muscles they have the better they are...only it ends up looking like all doll companies are turning into the fantasy of a teenage girl.

Maybe it's just because I like variety and have a really difficult time finding it lately. I don't want all my boy dolls to look like they spend 27 hours a day in the gym, I want them all different. I have one EID and I don't want everyone else looking like him. He's it. And he can't pose worth a crap and I had to mod him to get him to sit, so he's really it.

People spend a lot of time griping about the size of the female dolls breasts and hips, but there is very little complaint about how all the males have started to resemble professional wrestlers. On steroids.
Which is probably why companies keep going in that direction. There are very few people who care.

As for the height/size thing...I'm also not a fan of bigger dolls. I got rid of several of my 70cm dolls and am down to just a few. Two of which I keep debating on (though one I tried selling and failed lol - then I modded him so I doubt he'll sell...). I'm tallish for a woman - 5'10", no one will ever accuse me of being a weakling, but I just don't like the bigger dolls. They're so hard to deal with, and I don't care for them enough to do it. I have a few at about 65cm and that's as tall as I would go now.

I guess the trend is really a good thing for me, it keeps me from buying more dolls! XD

6. This is an issue I've been faced with myself and the possibility of expanding my collection. I just prefer everything a bit more on the feminine side, even with those boys that I imagine tall and etceteras. I wish there were more options for younger boys without branching downward into the MSD sizes.

Lamented are the days of Junior Delf, and I wish that Luts had stuck out with them a little longer, or that other companies balanced out the larger men with younger men as well, or older boys. Something to fill that niche.

7. I love the soft, curvy old CP/Delf bodies... and Volks' chunky, baby-fat SD13s... and my tall, gangly scarecrow of a DC Dolores... and my big, hulking brick of an EID superhero.

I like having choices.
I like variety.

So, I can't really complain about there being big, beefy guys out there these days. There's no way I could have had a resin version of Palrah (Who's built like your typical comic book character-) if all I'd had to work with were the waifs and "young guy" bods that were the previous norm. That said, I'd be sad if big-n-burley became the ONLY option out there. I don't think it's to that point yet, though, and I doubt it ever will be. If the past is any indication, no "fad" or "trend" in the doll business lasts forever. Eventually tastes will change, and the sculptors will go off in some other direction. Maybe we'll see a bunch of boyish, small-chested girls... It's hard to tell what the Next Big Thing is going to be... In any case, what's all over the place right now (the big guys) may not be what we see so many of a year or two from now.

8. If you want younger, the Volks SD10 and SD13 boy bodies are very young-looking and not muscular.

I like having a lot of sculpt choices available, fwiw.

9. it seems that companies make their men bigger in every aspect and I don't like this trend. even their skinny guys have 6 pack! and almost nothing new is under 65cm. I want softer boys and I want 53-59cm boys! I don't only want men, I want a cute teenage boy. MSD are too small for that (and even those are getting manlier!). girls are getting taller and curvier too! again, I want some cute teenagers or young women with small breasts and sublte curves.
it really is a shame that there can't seem to be a balance. there was a time when it was ONLY skinny 'immature' bodies, and now it's only really tall and ripped ones >_<

and if they are to make only muscular men, at least I would like if they had more of a natural and healthy look rather than a guy with 0 fat and spends his day at the gym. (the iplehouse nYID is quite nice in that sense. he does look strong and fit but doesn't have a super defined 6 pack. he's also pretty much in the limit for the height, for me.)

10. I tried for the longest to find a non-muscular, normal 65cm body, same for a very thin and non muscular, but still human looking, 70cm body.
This was so far pretty impossible and in the end I got the 65cm guy just some beefy body and with the 70cm one I'm still at a loss what to get for him (since I don't like DC and he already has the super slim old 70cm body from DZ...and even that one has an ugly six-pack).

But currently the trend goes to more and "sexy" bodies, which means big boobs and thin waists for the girls (sometimes even for MSDs and YoSDs!) and six-packs and beefy arms for the guys.
It's getting harder and harder to get average looking bodies, especially in the bigger sizes.
And inbetween sizes were always a bit of a problem, with girls never being very big and guys never being pretty short.
For "normal" SDs it's actually easier to get flat stomachs and normal arms, but in the 70cm area pretty much everybody seems to be ripped.

11. Ara* : have you considered looking at dollshe for your thin 70cm guy? the Rhythmos body is VERY slender. but if he's too weird for you, the hound body might fit :)

12. I don't mind the trend on more mature dolls. I will admit that I do find it a wee bit disturbing on MSDs, though.

13. I prefer the slim guys myself but Resinsoul's Sui/Tang boys are on my wishlist cause they're well...Gorgeous.

14. @sahoma: I have the old bodies and a pure one, and I actually had looked into the Rythmos one but the arms are just so off-putting :(
They are waaaaay too long and I don't like the "alien" look of the whole torso.
I just want a guy that looks very slim without looking too weird :(
The Hound (old) body was also in my list, but the head is too big for it and the body actually still a bit too thick. It's weird, I basically need something like DC in human...or lets say his DZ body with less weird muscles and better jointing.

15. oh I feel you about Rhythmos <_< I'm still trying to figure out what I can do about those arms when my boy arrive! @_@
I guess that this point you could try modding! if you get one that is somewhat slim and with the righ jointing, you could sand off the muscle definition and maybe had some bone definition instead, if that's what you're aiming for.

16. I like the smaller boys too. I got a Junior Delf right before they were discontinued, and I love his size, as well as my SD10 boy's. I want a boy a centimeter or two shorter to be another character, but the options are really limited. And yes, less muscular/ripped bodies (in all sizes!) would be great as well. The big hunky ones aren't my thing at all. I can admire the engineering, but they don't really do anything for me.

17. What do you think of this trend?
I've been waiting for this! I'm tired of seeing so many effeminate boys so I'm happy to see sculpts that are clearly more manly to go with the muscular bodies.
Are you dying for some skinny little boys?
Nope.
Do you love the big super hunks?
Of course!
Do you want more options?
It'd be nice to have options but seeing that there's been these slim effeminate guys for so long, I think we're getting options now that we have beefier guys.

18. I have to agree. I like seeing more variety out there, but the current trend just seems to be to make them taller and beefier : / Anything over 70cm is just too big. I have one boy that size, and at the most, I'm probably only going to get maybe one more at that size. My other boys I want to shell are mostly in their late teens... and they're just average guys! They need to be the 'old' average SD-size boy height.

Trim and toned would be fine, but I don't need them totally ripped x__x

More options would be great. I need a doll that can pose well and look good doing it, as well as resemble an average human being. Most guys just don't spend that much time working out.

There's some gorgeous dolls out there, but they're all just too darn big!

I keep looking enviously at the range of MSD-size bodies and wishing I had a growth ray :|

19. What do you think of this trend?
I don't like it. I really enjoy skinny males ;n;

Are you dying for some skinny little boys?
YES

Do you love the big super hunks?
I'm not opposed to them, but I definitely prefer skinnies.

Do you want more options?
Yes. I would love to have, ideally, lots of different bodies of LOTS of types for male AND female dolls.

20. my thoughts as well
