Best Male Body

Sep 28, 2010

    1. I only found one post on this and it was from 2005 and I'm sure the answer is probably different now so:

Which company has the best male bodies for mold & possibility?

And this is kind of unrelated, but where can I find some hopefully non-limited less effeminate face molds? I mean something that if you put a long wig on it wont look like a girl XD

    2. My knowledge of all the various companies is limited, but the new Rouse head from SoulDoll in it's Vito line is not a pretty boy sculpt. Since it's a mature male body at 52 cm, we're still trying to figure out clothing options, but it's worth a look. Doll Zone's Brant and Cosmo models are closer to the pretty end, but wouldn't be mistaken for a girl in a long wig. Ditto Iple House's SID and EID models really. Pretty, yes, but still masculine. On the complete other end of the scale -- and the higher price end -- for about a 69 cm doll is Bishonen House. He does limited selection since it's a one-man operation, and even his "unlimited" editions are, well, limited, but the face sculpts are usually anything but effeminite.

Edit: On the poseability, again a nod to Bishonen House. I don't own one (yet), but if half his promises are true, it's pretty impressive. Hopefully someone who owns his latest body version will post, or maybe check out the BH thread in the database. There's a list of features here: http://www.bishonenhouse.com/two_point_zero.html

    3. Fairyland's Feeple and minifees are really nice. More towards the lean or gangly muscles, but they pose like a dream from what I've seen and look good posing too, particularly the a-line bodies

    4. NemuChu ~ Keeping in mind that the answers to this sort of question are going to be very subjective, please narrow your parameters - for example, what size male doll are you looking for?

    5. NemuChun: I favor the SD17 boy body with the re-designed knee joints. The engineering/quality/shape is above all others. The Graffitti body is nearly as beautiful.

      IMO :)

    6. I prefer Dollstown bodies, both for their aesthetic and poseability (though they are single-jointed, they keep their poses well). And though I haven't seen the Volks SDGr in person, it is on my wishlist, because I think the sculpting is stunning.

    7. I really like Iple's EID and SID bodies. Absolutely gorgeous, but that's my own personal tastes ;)
Unfortunately the EID males are a little lacking in poesability because they're just so big, bulky, and heavy. That's not to say you CAN'T achieve awesome posing with them, it just takes a good bit longer sometimes to get them to hold a pose you want. My EID Super Hero's elbows in particular are VERY finicky, and never want to hold a pose... but me, I'd gladly trade poseability for aesthetics. ^^

    8. Of the 60cm range, Blue Blood Doll has the best male body I have encountered so far.

      http://www.blueblooddoll.com/home

It is extremely pose-able and the double-joints are very well done, plus they are some of the best looking I've seen in general out of all the sizes.

    9. Thank you for your answers everyone!

Personally I'm looking for something 52 inches+ with an age range of 17-22. I knew the answers would be subjective since I used the word "best" XD but there's a lot of merit in that. I can see the positive points of some of the best out there. Its just there are SO many choices its hard to now which are quality without experience.

I like lean/gangly AND muscular. And I check out Fairyland's site every few days but I've NEVER looked at there more mature dolls o_O My attention has been sucked by pukis all this time... I think the minifee boy bodies look really nice but its younger than I'm looking for right now. I wish they had it in the Feeple size, because the Feeple bodies don't look as nice.

Erk, I was afriad someone would say that... My starting ideal so far has been Hijikata Toshizou. He's hot! But limited... I can't wait to see what comes out at the next dolpa! Please let there be a new SD17! But I've only seen the Graffitti and it didn't look that great at posing although it was pretty. Have you seen the new SD17 body personally?

I don't know much about it (which is why I'm asking XD) but can single jointed bodies really pose as well as double? Are they more stable?

Hmm, but its a tough pick to make. Do you know if the SID's are any more poseable than EID's? I love the idea of a big man doll but I want him to pose how I want him to pose.

Of course someone says that XD Interesting, but a little too realistic for my taste. He's kind of embarrassing...

Thanks for all your different ideas on sculpts ^_^ Now I didn't say I didn't want pretty. I love pretty boys I just don't want a girly boy. I mentioned above somewhere that I liked Hijikata Toshizou, and I think he's pretty but couldn't be confused with a girl. I don't think Bishonen House wouldn't be my thing. Also, rather than Rouse I think I like Lester from Soul Doll, and Cosmo from Doll Zone is pretty sexy. But I think I'm really liking the SID and EID guys... I actually like ALL of the face molds XD And the bodies are pretty hot too. And I don't have to worry about them being limited. Woah XD Hmm... I'm thinking Akando or Storm.

Wow, its the first time I've heard of them! So I took a look and that is some awesome posing. And your right, those knees are sexy. But do they use some different kind of resin. It seems kind of shiny? They are a little too thin for my taste but their legs are very nice.

    10. Well, of course double jointed doll can bend their arms and legs more, but personally I prefer single joints for their stability and their aesthetic. This is really a choice you'll have to make for yourself, though. I know that many people love double joints. So, the only advice I can give you is to go to meets and handle as many doll bodies as you can, so you can find out where your preferences are.

I love the Dollstown bodies, for example, because they have a well-functioning three-part torso. Their backs are really flexible.
Another pro about them is that their arms and legs are designed in such a way that they can bend more than 45 degrees. (don't know if the last thing is true about the 15y dolls, but it is for the 7y ones). They have the stability of a single joint, but almost the range of a double joint, without the akward angular look most doubles have.

    11. That is of course the best idea but I'm always afraid to ask to touch bigger dolls XD And I think most people in my area have girls, but I'll definitely ask if someone might bring a boy next time.

Thanks so much for the detailed review! Stability is important to because whats the use of a good pose if he can't keep it! I wanted to learn more about different male bodies and your info gave a good picture of the pros for Dollstown. Hmmm, wonder when they'll finish the older body type....

    12. I really love the new B&G Doll body (type 3). It poses really well, has double joints that don't look funny when bent, stands like a rock, keeps arms/legs bent when you want them bent. It's currently mt favorite 60cm body ^^ I had him on some rocks near a river last month and not only did he not sway, but he stood on that uneven surface with a bent knee. Very solid body. It has lovely contours and muscles on it as well ^^

I hope you find the one you're looking for!

    13. I'm guessing you mean 52cm, not inches. There's a pretty big difference there.

    14. For male faces (which aren't easily mistaken for girls) - I would suggest some of the SOOM SuperGems, as well as reiterating the Iplehouse boys, some of the male Delfs still look male when dressed as girls - i.e. Shiwoo, El and Breakaway (others will argue differently). I would also agree that the Bishonen House sculpts are decidely male.

As for posable male bodies I would have to say the Fairyland Minifee A-line (particularly the muscular) and now the Fairyland Chic-line male bodies. Feeples also pose really well, but there is also a possibilty of a new Fairyland 60cm sometime in the future which would pose like the Minifee and the Chic-line.
      Also, Dollzones pose REALLY well...

However, I wouldn't place Iplehouse or SOOM on the "most posable male body" list.

    15. I like Dollstown bodies too, but one of my personal favourite is the Limho Mano body by Limhwa. Unfortunately, that one has been discontinued. Luts Senior Delf is also a good one and you can choose between the single or double jointed body, although if you really want something near 52 cm, you may be interested in the new Souldoll Vito line of which the boys are 52 cm. At this moment you'll rarely find a boy doll that's shorter than 60 cm, but taller than 50 cm.

    16. Of the six male bodies I own I'm most happy with the Blue Blood possability, plus this fellow can stand on his own for hours. An added bonus of elbow to hand movement that is very realistic. It's a US company, using Canadian resin. I also like the look of the resin best, it has a more real skin look, like you could see the veins beneath the skin if you looked hard. Now, their heads.. darn it, a bit too fem. Manly heads I haven't found one I'm particular to yet. But I do lean toward Iplehouse's Tedros.

    17. Waaah, I don't know why I said 52 (inches!? lol) I meant 62cm+, but really I want something 65cm+ because I want a guy significantly taller than my SD girl. So that eliminates some of the great choices people gave >_<

I really love the Minifee muscular A-line! I just wish they had it as a larger size. I don't know if its from the photos but I really just don't like the Feeple bodies asthetically.

At first for Dollzone I only noticed that really skinny 72cm which I don't like at all. I want a body with a more medium build. And then I noticed the 65cm and there are some great picture of it! The joints aren't completely beautiful, but they aren't bad for double jointed, and the torso and legs are nice and its very flexible. There weren't many pictures of the type 1 70 cm but if it poses like the 65 cm it's high up on my list.

I really wish I could get a head and body from the same place because face-wise I'm leaning towards Iplehouse, but no one seems to say great things about the bodies, just that they're big XD

That's what I'm talking about! I want to take a picture of the big guy standing without having to worry about him toppling over XD

And thanks for the nice words ^_^ I had been dreaming about my SD for a few years before I got her so I knew what I was looking for right away. It had to be Volks and it had to be F01. But now that I've gotten into the hobby more I realized I don't have to be a snob cause Volks almost never has SD17 guys >_< So before my extra money disappears as money does, I want to be able to make an informed decision!

Thanks for finding what I asked XD So actually it looks like Luts is smaller than I want, too. I am also leaning towards a Dollstown body as well ^_^

The Blue Blood bodies are a little on the skinny side, but if I was going for a 14-15 yrs boy I think it would be perfect, cause those are some nice knees! But actually the more I look at it I don't think I really like the resin that much. I'm quite partial to the soft matte look of most resin, its like how someones skin would look if it was inhumanly perfect XD

Right now I'm leaning towards Iple Akando or Storm face wise. I mean, I pretty much love those faces. I can't believe I forgot about how much I love Iplehouse face molds in general, but after spending every day looking at dozens of different doll sites its hard to keep it all strait o_O

But of course Iplehouse doesn't sell heads separately... But they have those giant unwieldy man bodies that no one seems to recommend XD On the other hand Dollzone does sell bodies seperately... Hmm, this requires some thought ^_^

Thanks so much for everyone's amazing input even though I asked for the wrong thing. I notice no one suggested any 52 inch dolls :P

    18. I only have one male SD at the moment, but he poses like an absolute dream. He's a 70cm Spirit Doll Acer. I did a review of his posability here, which might help :) The site link is here. SpD also has a 60cm version you can order with a solid torso, or two-jointed torse that poses just as nicely. There is a photo review of their 60cm body as compared with a SDGr here, although their head sculpts for this size are not the manliest.

I don't own a male Dollstown doll, but I have their female elf body, and I also have to say that while they are single jointed, they have really, really good posing. My girl can hold poses that some of the other double jointed dolls i've seen could never even dream of holding.

    19. I love the Soom body. And from pictures I like the SID from Iplehouse and the SD17 Volks.
