1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Biggest US Convention??

Jan 17, 2013

    1. There are SO many conventions nowadays and I don't really know how they compare. Anyone know - what is the BIGGEST US BJD convention for attendance? Top 3?

    2. I've only been to the BJDC in Austin, TX but I think the last count there was around 200 people. I think they could use a good eye vendor too!

    3. I've been to the last 2 at Austin. The next one is in August of 2014. Then they hope to go to every year after that. Great convention.

    4. This is the first time i've heard of a just doll convention... probably very few in number. be great if someone could inform us of a place we can search or name any other conventions.

    5. Thanks guys! I've never gone to a convention, my kids are only just getting to the age where I can run off for a couple days to work the circuits. I can't hit them all though so I want to be sure I pick the big ones...

    6. I'm glad I happened to find this. I had no idea I would find a convention so close to home. I will definitely look forward to the 2014 one :D

    7. St. Louis just hosted our first BJD convention in November of 2012. It will be an annual convention, so the next one will be November of 2013. It is small, but our numbers are comparable to Austin's first year. We expect between 100-150 people for next year.

    8. The San Diego BJD Con is just a one-day event, so not quite the same as these others, but it is growing in size. I think it had 70 attendees in 2012. It is held annually around Nov/Dec.

I thought the BJDC 2012 in Austin had around 300 people (but I only attended so I don't know the official figures)?
It was a good size with several contests, panels, banquets and dinners, and a large seller's room. Focus is all on bjds... quite a bit of non-Asian bjds and artist bjds. In 2012, the convention doll was made by Kaye Wiggs, so there were a lot of Kaye Wiggs fans there. Anyway--it was a lot of fun.

There is no BJDC Austin in 2013. They have set the dates for 2014, so people can start planning.

There used to be bjd cons held in the San Francisco area, but not over recent years, sadly.

I certainly hope there will be more bjd cons organized and held successfully. There seems to be enough people interested these days.

    9. St Louis might be doable but Chicago suburbs would be better yet!

    10. Are there any that meet up in New York?

    11. How many of these USA Doll Cons have dealers tables? (or rather which cons do have a dealers room and dealers tables to buy space etc)

    12. I see you are in Portland! There are two up here in the Seattle area that are just BJD oriented and pretty well attended: Uncanny Dreams (which is in Seattle) and another one I'm blanking on the name of which is over in Poulsbo.

    13. I want to add IDEX (International Doll Expo) to the list. It is in Orlando, Florida. Not just BJDs, there are other dolls, too. This year Volks is attending. In years past other BJD dealers have attended. There are retailers, dealers, and tables for people that want to see their goods. I'd say a few hundred attend, but it seems to be growing in popularity.

    14. The one in Poulsbo has moved to Bremerton this year to allow for expansion and international vendors. It's called PNW BJD Expo, short for Pacific Northwest Ball-Jointed Doll Expo.

    15. Yes. I have heard a lot of great things about the BJD convention in Austin. I hope to be able to attend the next one and check it out for myself.

    16. Any more conventions going on this year? :)

    17. There needs to be a BJD convention in the NYC area. There used to be Dolpa, but I don't own any Volks dolls, don't want any Volks dolls, and would hate going to a convention where I couldn't show off my own collection. There really needs to be one around here.

    18. Doll conventions seem to be a bit of a novelty in the US. I've only been to a couple. One in Fresno CA (rhe one and only) and San Diego's which is woefully small! They need more support and more attendees! I'd love to see that one really thrive!

There is one coming up in Niagra Falls NY! Dollism Plus. I'll be looking forward to pictures of that since there is no way I'm going to it.

    19. awesome about the one in NY, I tried searching the thread but there doesn't seem to be a date set yet??
