1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Hello,

      I'm currently undertaking further studies and am doing an assignment where I can choose my own topic. So I, of course, have chosen BJD's. In order to put together this project, I need to determine the percentage of BJD owners that do various items with their dolls and how involved some owners get with their dolls. The assignment I'm doing is based on what physical things can be done with dolls themselves and what level of skill is needed for each (like buying is a beginner level, whereas making a doll would be more advanced).

      So if you have time, please answer the following poll accurately.

      Thanks for your help and co-operation!

      Mawgy

    2. Buy, face up (Agatha, my first), both buy and make clothing, photograph like crazy but don't always post said photos--I love taking photos but hate sorting through them to pick which ones are worth posting. XD

      Can I suggest a few more? Attend meetups, create photostories specifically, buy props made for BJDs, repurpose other objects as props, make props would be some more things I personally do with my dolls. Naming and creating backstories/personalities may be a couple others to consider.

    3. Thanks for the ideas Poofiemus, unfortunately there's a maximum of 10 answers available per poll. And the aissgnment I'm doing is based on what physical things can be done with dolls. I like the ideas about props and repurposing props for dolls, which I may include in the assignment. Thanks for the feedback and ideas!

    4. I order/buy my dolls, do my own faceups and mods, I make my own doll clothes, and I photograph my dolls. I also do my own sueding and restringing, which is definitely a physical activity (and sometimes it takes a bit of muscle to get the strings tight enough in my big SD girls! As for the difficulty level of those things in my opinion: I think cleaning, restringing, and sueding are things that most beginners can do to maintain their doll if they want to give it a try. I took my first doll apart as soon as I got her and glue-sueded/restrung her. Having a good tutorial helps a lot! But it can be a great way to get familiar with how your dolls works. Faceups can be enjoyed at a lot of different skill levels, and everyone has to start somewhere, but of course it can be taken to an amazingly high level of skill with practice and hard work. Sewing for dolls can be very challenging; doing it well requires a basic understanding of how clothing is constructed and it requires you to work on a small scale. Again, I think it can be enjoyed on different levels of skill, but takes a lot of practic and skill to do really well.
      Good luck with your project! :)

    5. I buy my dolls and their clothes. I don't have the talent or time to make them but I paint them myself. I also do minor modifications like piercings, slimming the cheeks, etc. I've always wanted to try bigger mods like re-shaping the lips or opening/closing eyes but I'm afraid something would go terribly wrong and I would ruin the doll. ^^;
      I also photograph my dolls but not as often as I would like to since I'm busy with work/school most of the time. :C

      Good luck with the assignment! ^_^

    6. I buy my dolls and most of their clothes, but for some I've made a few things or have commissioned things for them if they're hard to buy for. I paint all of my own dolls, do any modifications myself and photograph them as much as possible! Good luck with your assignment. I did a speech on BJDs for a college class and it went really well because they were so unusual, so have fun! :)

    7. You're welcome! Shame you had a limited number of slots. :/ There even used to be a whole thread for props and things you could repurpose for BJDs, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. ^^; Seriously, though, I've found so many potential props in weird places that I even keep a spare hand in my purse so I can double-check scale on the fly--also good for teasing friends and family. XD

    8. Good luck with your project Mawgy, but this type of research is more suited to a personal blog or facebook group perhaps. We don't allow members to do research on Den of Angels so this thread is being closed.

      We do wish you luck with your project however
