1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Box Opening Ceremony

Dec 25, 2013

    1. Okay everyone! I know that I'm a newb here, but I am working on a bit of a small project with Elendae_Nersil. We are doing research and writing an article/paper on something that every doll owner unspokenly does: The Box Opening Ceremony.

This all started when I received my newest doll, Mary Cait who is a Hujoo Nano Freya. My Girlfriend had gotten her for me for my birthday as a friend for Clover. I told her not to let me see Mary Cait until my birthday when I could open her box properly. Of course my girlfriend, being a figure collector, wanted to examine the Freya to make sure that there was nothing wrong with her and thought something was wrong as she still had some mold chips on the seams. She kept trying to get me to look at her. Of course this led to more of an argument over the box opening and she asked: Why is this Box Opening thing so important?!

I tried to explain it to her, but it was a little crazy sounding even as I said it! She was also very confused, so I went online to try finding a better explanation to which I found no article, no blurb, nothing! But I could find tons of videos and pictures. It seems the Box Opening is an unspoken and unexplained ritual in the doll community. So here is what I need from this wonderful group:

      Please answer the following questions:
      1) Have you ever been to a Volks Welcoming/Naming/Birthing Ceremony?
      2) Describe your first Box Opening
      3) How did you know about how important the box opening is?
      4) In your best words, describe WHAT the Box Opening is.

The best answers will be chosen to be entered in the project, so please also include the name you may wish to be placed for your quote, age and where you are from (State/Country/Provence).

      THANK YOU!

    2. This sounds like an interesting project, however, we don't allow members to use this forum to gather information for reports, papers or other research projects.

If you have a blog for this you can always advertise for participants in your signature by linking to your blog. Best of luck!
