1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

    1. Sorry if this exists somewhere. I tried to find it, but it's kind of hard when the search criteria consists of such generic words. :sweat

Ever since ordering my first doll (who will end up being my second because the second one I ordered already arrived XD), I have been really into box openings. I don't know what it is, but I love them! I especially love watching box opening videos on YouTube, but the box opening threads around here are a lot of fun, too. It's great when the owner turns it into a little photo story. :)

Maybe I'm just sharing the excitement of the opener and imagining the moment when I get to open my long-awaited (four years long-awaited) boy, but I get a distinct sense of joy from box openings. I'm curious to know how the rest of you feel about it. Do you like posting, reading, and watching box openings? Or do you find them to be a total snooze? Or, perhaps you don't really care either way?

    2. I find them boring, really, but it's not difficult to just not look at them.

I've taken photographs of a box opening once - The outer box was really badly damaged, and rain had leaked into the inner one, so I wanted a good visual record of the damage in case I had to file a complaint.

    3. As you said, the box-openings that are creative, and made into photo-stories are awesome (for the most part). But the ones that are not very creative can be quite boring: I rarely stay for the whole post, or video, whatever.

      :)

    4. I usually look at box openings for dolls I'm interested in, or friends' box openings, or say, when someone links to a box opening in a waiting room that I am also in.

Some that are a mini photo story are awesome, whereas I like to see just photos, too. I feel like there's something to be said just for knowing how different companies ship their dolls, and how they pack them and the like.

For me, I think that box openings are awesome. :) They are a good gauge of how fast companies are, what their shipping practices are, and it's a nice way to share in someone's happiness when you aren't opening a doll yourself. :)

    5. In my opinion, when box openings are turned into a little story it is interresting but if not I don't like box openings very much. I never took pics of one of my own box opening for example, I know that I'm not really good at photostories so I don't post any box opening, but sometimes I look at a box opening wich is funny and I think it is great !

    6. I really like box openings, in fact the box opening subforum is one of the forums I check daily. :sweat I'm not really into photostories though, I find them quite tiring to be honest...but if it's only a few photos with a little text it's okay. I prefer pictures with a description under or above it.
I also am really getting into box opening videos on Youtube lately, which can end in hours clicking through videos and ending in quite bizarre results...(Why am I watching puppies sleeping when I started looking for dolls?) but I guess that's Youtube for you!

    7. I don't intentionally seek out box opening threads myself, but I find myself gravitating towards them when I'm expecting a doll of my own! Especially if it's a box opening for the doll I'm expecting, but any nicely photographed box opening will do. Sharing the excitement of the new owner is like a vicarious dolly experience, and it really helps with the wait! :XD:

    8. Heh. The videos I find pretty boring (they tend to be so looooong - I just want to see the dolly!), but I love photographed box openings. It's just fun to see how people receive their dolls, what's in the boxes, how sculpts look blank... And it's also interesting to see what may go wrong. I feel sorry for people who receive damaged goods, or the wrong goods, or not all of the stuff they have ordered, but as a fellow buyer I do like to have that kind of information and I'm grateful if people share it.

In short, I find box openings fun and informative. Looking at them helps you survive the waiting times, too. I check the gallery almost every day; I like it so much :).

    9. I like box openings because I like to see owner's photos of the dolls, before they have time to paint/mod/photoshop, etc. Seeing owner's photos often helps me decide if I am on the fence about a certain doll, and I have found some great dolls that I overlooked by seeing what other people buy. I'm not so much into the cute cat/doll friends box opening photostories, although it sometimes helps to see the new doll standing next to other dolls. I don't do them myself unless someone in an incoming doll thread wants to see a particular doll or inquires about the packaging. I might make one if I happened to be the first person on DOA to receive a particular doll because I know other people might want to see.

    10. I never even knew that box openings were a thing to tape/photograph/etc, and I mainly use them as a reference when I'm buying a new doll, to see how s/he looks in scale against a person.

    11. I LOVE box openings! And after over five years in the hobby, I've yet to tire of them :)

    12. When I look at box openings it isn't for entertainment but information. Box openings show how the doll was packaged, what condition the doll arrives in and how a doll looks outside of the company website.

I'm not really in to photostories but some box opening stories are sort of cute/give me a chuckle.

The video box openings are really not for me.

    13. I used to hate box openings (specifically the video ones). It was so lengthy and bleh, until I watched for the ones that have the doll I want LOL. Then, from then on, I found them to be quite exciting! Heck, it's -sort of- being a motivational source for saving up. <3 Every now and then, I tend to search for box openings on YouTube and I find myself amused and enjoying it.

As for photo box openings, it really depends. I don't particularly enjoy most photostories cause I find 'em to be too long and I'm too lazy to read lolz. However, there are some box opening + photostory that are quite funny so I enjoy those. I don't go through every box opening on the forum.

      Oh and I prefer to look at larger dolls' box openings (video-wise and photo-wise). I'm not too keen on tinies. Haha. ^^;

PS: I don't own a doll yet so this is just my opinion (duh). 8D

    14. I love looking at box openings, personally - mid length is most entertaining! I get disappointed when a box opening thread is only like 3 photos. I don't necessarily just look at ones from companies I like either. I just never seem to get bored of looking at them, either from an information or entertainment standpoint. I just like seeing new dolls arrive and get put together with their wigs and clothes and reading how excited the person is. The thrill of a new doll is always exciting.

Video box openings, I'm not especially fond it though. I tend to avoid those, because as much as I like seeing a new doll, I can do without seeing a person struggle to knife a box open and fumble with bubble wrap. I don't want to have to pause to see a doll's face. It's kind of like home movies, people rarely care to see them, but are alright with snippets of things via photographs lol.

    15. I enjoy looking at them especially when I'm anticipating another doll. I also like to look at them for specific molds just to see how the dolls look when they first arrive.

    16. I check the box opening forum each day as I enjoy seeing each new doll -even if it is not ones I'm interested in. Sometimes I'm surprised and like a doll that I did not like on the company site, or, they get me interested in a particular company so I check them out. I just love looking at BJDs and what can be done with them! However, I do not look at videos (computer can't handle it) and I just want to see the dolls anyway.

    17. I enjoy looking at box openings quite a bit! Mostly because I like to see what dolls really look like, fresh from the company and without faceup and/or styling, but I also find the enthusiasm and joy of the new owner to be nice. :)

Though I hate box openings where people post 13756433 detailed pictures of the box and the inner box and the bubble wrap and the cheap freebie acrylics and the pairs of shoes they ordered and then . . . like one picture of the actual doll. :XD:

    18. I look for dolls I want. I don't take photos of mine anymore, hardly, cause everyone else in the hobby has seen them all 50 billion times before I ever get mine, so it's a waste of time and effort to even take a picture. But I like looking at some. Some titles just make me look. Sometimes it's the doll. Photostories are fun though!

    19. I love box openings, because it's one of the best opportunities to show a doll in detail. I must admit, however, that the convention of the dolly with the scissors opening the box (and/or covering its eyes in horror at the ensuing nudity) is just done to death.

    20. On a personal level, I tend to only go into box openings for dolls I'm curious about or members I've gotten to know. I rarely find them boring because there is information there and the excitement of the owner is usually infectious.

I never watch videos, though. I'd much rather quickly skim over some pictures and text.
