Boxes of just wrap?

Mar 7, 2024

    1. Hi there!
I have a couple of doll heads waiting for their bodies at this point, some in the plastic box they came in, some just in bubble wrap/fabric.

How do you guys store your floating heads?
I know you can buy those small doll head boxes, but I’m curious, maybe looking for ideas. :3nodding:

Ideally I would like to have a box for each, but I also feel like it’s a bit wasteful and I should just save the money.

    2. My floating heads and option heads live in a plastic storage tote I got from the Dollar Tree  Nothing fancy! I lined the bottom with foam wrap so they don't rattle around/move when I lift or open the box, and those that came with faceup protectors or bubble wrap nests live in them. A solution doesn't have to be expensive or terribly innovative in order to work.

    3. Thanks :XD: That’s actually a really good and easy solution. I always make things more complicated than they have to be by trying to make things look aesthetically pleasing or worrying too much that my dolls/heads might get scratched, but yeah…a storage tote works really well!

    4. I don't have a lot of floating heads because I have this thing about my dolls needing their own bodies. That said, I have a couple of accessories boxes from Dikadoll and a few small high-quality boxes from Etsy sellers that I put heads in when they're waiting for a body. I don't pad them; I put them in a specific spot and leave them until the body gets in. They're positioned with their faces up so face ups aren't damaged, and I just don't move them around.

    5. I've always just wrapped them accordingly to how often I use them (faceplates get swapped sometimes, floating heads put onto bodies for pics etc) and put them in the boxes my dolls came in. If they have faceups, I've pulled a ziploc bag over the head + face protector to keep the latter in place. The boxes are padded so even if they roll around a little, nothing happens.

I've also seen collectors add padded dividers to nice-looking boxes to house heads and option parts in an easily accessible and aesthetically pleasing way. Something like this could easily be made out of scrap materials and decorated to your fancy if that's something you're into!

    6. Great idea! That reminds me, I have a pretty box that I used as a prop for one of my dolls, it’s big enough to house a few heads, just needs some padding! (Hopefully said doll doesn’t mind leaning on a box of heads :mwahaha…)

    7. I use a plastic Christmas ornament storage box with compartments. I"ve also seen small square chipboard boxes at Dollar Tree that are pretty.

    8. i’m a ornament storage box user too!! i like the ornament box a lot better- before i used a large toolbox that had those… shelves that… pop out? i don’t know how to describe them lol but the ornament box works way better for me because they’re usually designed to fit in thinner spaces (under beds, in shelving spaces, etc) whereas a toolbox was great for on the go but awkward to put anywhere for a long time. i got my ornament box off amazon just after the holidays when they were all on sale haha

    9. Some of my dolls came with sleeping heads (I have only one true floating head...who does want a body but is being picky) and I've kept them in face protectors, maybe a sheet or two of bubble wrap, and then they are in a plastic drawer hahaha

    10. What size heads are you storing in the ornament boxes? I had thought about getting one, but all of my floating heads are SD or 8-9" and I was afraid they might be too big to fit.

Currently, my floating heads are just kind of...in a plastic tub with a doll pillow or in their boxes if they have them (most do not).

    11. I only have a couple floating heads (one is intended for practicing face-ups), but I always wanted to get some small, transclearant domes to store them under... kinda like in Futurama.

    12. I have a box of sorted doll parts with a couple of the floating heads,- mostly sleeping heads- And then I have been working the last few years at getting my favorite heads onto Bust Stands for proper enjoyment

    13. I don't really have a whole lot of floating heads. Only two at the moment which are waiting for faceup. I probably should upgrade my storage situation for them but i just keep them on a shelf in my closet next to some plastic drawers with doll shoes :sweat

    14. All of my floating heads are artist heads that never had a body, so they're just bubble wrapped and in the box the came in. Not the outer cardboard box, but like a cushiony fancy one with the artist's name/logo. Those are just sitting in a drawer.

    15. This is such a cool idea! :cheer

Great suggestions everyone, thank you! :abow:

    16. They're all heads for the bigger dolls. The compartments are maybe 4x4"? And the dividers are adjustable. I think I got it at Target.

Each box holds about 15 heads and I have 3 of them. :frownyblush:

    17. Thank you for the info!

Four of those floating heads might be for the same doll...his 5th head is on his body....:XD:

    18. I have a few heads (and spare parts) in one of those decorative boxes from Joann Fabrics with a bit of bubble wrap and white fabric. I think so long as they are secure you should be okay. :)

    19. From SD to MSD, and extra resin parts :) I have a big ol Doll Clans head in there (Jaquer) which is the biggest of the SD heads, bunches of mnf, and some things like the Mnf Alan resin hat, and it all fits fine plus some bubble wrap or soft cloth in each compartment. I also have the F60 rollerskates in one compartment too. This is the one I use (i lied, it’s TECHNICALLY a china/mug/cup storage box, I found it by searching for an ornament box for the same reason though haha): Amazon.com

bonelace on IG had linked theirs (https://a.co/d/9AaGiJr) a long time ago which put me onto the idea. They specifically use this one (and they have a LOT of heads, and quite a few are SD) to save on space because it can also be an ottoman in their small apartment. I never ended up buying that one since I moved to a bigger space and had more shelving room. But i really loved their idea of hiding them in another piece of furniture.

I picked the mug box specifically to accommodate my SDs since I was ordering it while I didn’t have them on hand to compare… but I DID have a standard size mug, which I figured was at least a few cm wider and taller than my boys heads. and it definitely is
