1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD? What made you want another one? Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll? Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?

I'm just confused about if now is the right time for me to place an order for my second BJD... almost 6 months now since I got Cecilia. I would like to hear everyone's opinions.

(Sorry if this is a repeat topic)

EDIT: Wow, this thread has hit 20 pages. Even though I've LONG since got my second BJD (I'm on my... 9th...? Somewhere around there! ^^;; THEY'RE LIKE CRACK I TELL YOU! D: ), please feel free to keep this thread moving, as it's always interesting to hear others' opinions and some of this info might be helpful to others who are going through a similar problem as well. ^__^

    2. I did not think about a second BJD until I got my first one and signed upto DOA (I was really in the dark about BJD when I bought my first).

I did not feel bad about for my first doll. I did regret the purchase since he was not to the same quality as my first. (But once again, I was still in the learning process at that time about this hobby and which company has products that I like etc). I had bought and let go of many dolls since my first.

    3. About five minutes after I received my first one :D

I wanted a second one because I wanted a boy to go with my new girl, but I waited a couple of months before I actively started shopping for one.

I didn't feel guilty then, but now that I've got 20 dolls, I do sometimes feel bad that the older ones don't get played with like my tinies do.

    4. I got my second one maybe 6 months after my first one. I just loved the dolls so much, I had to have more. I saw another doll who's face I just loved and I just couldn't resist ordering him. Its like having a family in the sense that what may feel complete today, may feel even more complete when a new member comes home, and you just can't imagine life without that new member.

As for attention reguarding the first doll, he was so spoiled and had so many photos, I think he wanted a break! I lugged him everywhere and made him model so much stuff! The vacation did him some good and he enjoyed getting a brother.

As they say, the more the merrier!:)

    5. I knew I wanted a second BJD a little before my first one arrived. My first doll is a boy and he does not crossdress, but I like making skirts, so I thought I needed a girl too. I bought my second doll, a girl, a month after my first arrived. She arrived 3 months after my first.
I never felt bad for my first doll and I love them still. Eventhough I have many dolls now, my first two are still very special.

    6. I haven't got my first yet.

...And I'm already planning my third, and fourth... (Does that make me crazy?)

It started because I originally wanted a boy because they just appeal to me more, but being a seamstress, I also wanted to make pretty dresses, so I decided to get a girl too. (No crossdressing for me... yet?) Then things just got out of control. xD Part of it is because I had so much trouble deciding what my boy would be, I fell in love with too many sculpts, and now I have to get them all. xD

It feels silly, because way back when I said "I'll be happy with just one", and maybe once my first arrives I'll feel that way again... but not so now. xD

    7. I wanted a second one about five minutes after I discovered DOA and started looking through the galleries.

    8. Before my first arrived. In fact, I decided I wanted another one because I had to wait for my first one!

See, I'd gotten so excited about my first BJD arriving that I started dreaming about dolls. I dreamt one night that I found a doll on my front porch - a girl, not a boy like I was expecting, but I fell in love with her immediately :D

Then I saw a doll that I swear looked JUST like her on a doll site (in real life!) and decided that I HAD to have her. My subconscious wanted a girl doll too!! XD So now I'm scrimping and saving and waiting for fall when I'll hopefully have a job...

    9. I decided to buy my second doll one month after i ordered my first :sweat

well, my very first doll should arrive early in May or June and during the waiting I decided to buy my second doll from a member of another forum (because I really wanted a BJD as far as possible XD )... so I only had to wait 1~2 weeks ^^

And now it seem that my first doll is going to be the second in that way. What a surprise -.-''

And now I'm planning to save money for my third and fourth doll -..-

    10. I knew I wanted one of each gender. I bought off ebay, won the girl first but kept bidding on the boy and well, I accidentally won. Love them both and they arrived within weeks of each other. Now, pity drove me to buy the 3rd one, a rescue from Ebay. I really liked his sculpt, not realizing he was a different scale from the others despite being a 1/4. Oops. The 4th and 5th were pure sin. I just wanted them.

The reasons don't matter so much. Some folks are content with one doll, and others wanna catch'em all. :D

    11. I always knew I'd end up with several. That's just how I am! The second one arrived exactly 1 month after the first arrived, both are secondhand so there was probably 3 weeks or so between getting the first one and buying the second one - no more than 6 weeks between buying the first and buying the second, probably.

I didn't regret for a minute buying the second one, I actually spent more time with the two of them together than when I had just Riddick, and he looked lonely sitting all by himself, LOL! I felt bad for him BEFORE I bought the second, because he was all by himself. I personally think it's MUCH more fun with two (or more...)

    12. Well before bjds came into my life I was just obbsessed with dolls in general. as soon as I got 1 I was working on the next, and I expect thats the way it will be with BJDs. I only have 1 right now(got her march) but once she was here i needed another. I ordered my second yesterday, not cause I was waiting for the doll... I was waiting for the money lol once she arrives I'll be thinking of ways to afford a third! I don't work so its not a matter of saving. If I did work, every spare penny would probably go to bjds lol For now I have to wait for xmas, birthdays and anniversaries as my boyfriend buys my bjds lol

o I guess it depends on you and your funds lol If you want another go for it, just make sure you are in love with the doll and not buying for the sake of having doll number 2 :)

    13. It was about a month after I bought my first that I decided to get an MSD. I wasn't too fond of them a the time, but I wanted a variety of sizes and this one looked okay (at the time, I didn't really like any). About a week later, I ordered a 70cm as well that just took my breath away. (I had money at the time. It was lovely. : 3 ) My third got home before me second (about three days after I ordered him), and hence the numbers are bit scrambled since I go by who got home first. >>

I don't regret either of them at all. My 70 and I had some bonding issues down the road, but it's all better and I decided to keep him. Not to mention I TOOOOOTALLY love my little MSD to bits (even more then the others I wonder?), and have another now who just as loved. >< They all receive a good amount of attention, but I tend to disperse it around the SDs, and 70s and my later MSD since my family loves my first boy and first MSD to bits.

    14. When I bought my first BJD I knew I wouldn't be able to just have one. I'm still waiting on my second Doll (Soom Glot), which I ordered only a month after recieving my first. (I don't regret it ^^)

When I order a new doll generally depends on my bank balance lol

    15. My first two are actually no longer with me, as they have been rehomed. My first was an Orientdoll Ui, and she was just too tiny for me. My second (I ordered her as soon as I received funds from rehoming my Ui) was a Lati Yellow, and again, too small. I just don't feel comfortable handling the super tinies, I guess.

Now that I've found a size I'm comfortable with, it didn't take long for me to add another. :3 I currently have a Lati Green Coco. I ordered a special tan Green Lea the moment orders opened this past order period, and I currently have my first mini-sized girl on layaway - Minifee Shushu. <3

In a nutshell, now that I've found a size I love...it'll only be a matter of time before my house is full of resin cuties. :D

    16. I got my second about a month after my first. He came up on the Marketplace and I just knew that he would be a perfect boyfriend for my first doll. In fact, he was the sculpt I had been considering for that role, and the price was right and the timing was perfect (meaning, I actually had money for a change!). No regrets, though the poor fellow still only has one outfit. He's a straightforward kind of guy though, and doesn't mind.

    17. Heheh, well, it was a few months after my first--my boy Ty. I had thought I wouldn't want more than one, nor a girl. But I fell in love with Ty so much I was determined he needed a girlfriend. That, and I wanted a girl to dress pretty! XD

So, I ordered my first doll in September, and my second in February. Granted, if it weren't for holiday gift money I wouldn't have been able to get her so soon, but having the means allowed me to do so!

    18. I've already ordered my second before I had received my first. I'm impatient waiting for that one, now I'm looking around -- starting to "shop" again. I'm very impressed with the bjds -- I'm in the "honeymoon" stage of bjds.

    19. I ordered the second before the first had arrived. Silly me... they were even the same doll, just different skin tones. When I ordered the first, I had wanted white skin, but Denver Doll only had normal skin in stock, and I was impatient and didn't want to wait, so I ordered the normal skin. Then the next day I saw a listing on DOA for the same doll but in white skin, and at a good price, so I bought her too. My plan was to sell the first doll, but when she arrived, she was soooo pretty, I decided to sell the second one instead.

But then the second arrived, and she was also soooo pretty... Yeah. So I still have both of them. :D

I swore to myself that I would not buy a third until some time next year, but then there was this limited release head (Ninodoll only sells their dolls once a year or so), and it was the PERFECT head, so I was bad and bought it. And of course she needed a body, so I bought that too.

Fourth doll... well... as much as I swear that I will not be buying a body for the AA floating head I bought in April, I am still surfing the marketplace looking for a good deal...

The fifth doll, however, I WILL be good and wait for. I have a seasonal job and art sales have not been very good this year, and I don't allow myself to spend the "family" money on dolls, only my personal money made on the side with art sales and the tips at my job. So... as my personal money dries up, so do my doll purchases.

    20. Well, it didn't take long after my first doll arrived for me to consider buying another. I accumulated a tentative wishlist pretty quickly.
But when it came down to it, I was hesitant. I saved up enough money for a second doll eventually, but kept thinking, "I know I really want this doll, but do I really need it right now?" ...I've always been scared of spending a lot of money all at once. I second-guess myself like crazy, which is both a blessing and a curse.
Eventually, I signed up for a split in which I would obtain one of the dolls on my wishlist. I was happy, but still pretty hesitant.
      And then it happened.
      I saw my dream doll.
When Iplehouse Ryan was released, I was totally awestruck. I've never seen a doll that captivated me so thoroughly. I knew I had to have him no matter what. And he was limited, so I knew I had to hurry.
I ended up having to back out of the split for the other doll, but the person running said split was very understanding, knowing what it is like to discover the perfect doll.
So in the end, I didn't have much of a choice. I saw him and knew I had to have him, and that was it.
He'll be coming home soon, and I'm sure I won't be disappointed with me descision! ^^
      [edit]
Oh, and as for the time in between dolls, I ordered my first doll in September of last year, and the second one I started paying off on layway three months ago. They were about 5 or 6 months apart. =]

And I've NEVER, EVER regretted purchasing my first doll. And I really don't think I ever will. I bought him because I think he looks awesome, and even in the short time I've had him I've bonded with him so much. I put so much work into making him look just right and whatnot... There's no way I could regret buying him. ^^
