Coco Tribe Jerry? Pipos copy?

Jul 4, 2008

    1. I know the idea of a bunny anthro isn't new, but I was looking on the Kira Kira sight and their bunny "Jerry" looks a little TOO similar to Pipos's Curo. I actually thought it was a Curo at first glance.

It looks like they took a Curo head and stuck some teeth on it.

So is this a re-cast? It looks like a copy to me.

(xposted to anthro section becasue I wasn't sure where to post it.)

    2. the feet and ears look completely different....but I see what you're saying about the face. Weird, but I don't think so, if only because of the feet and ears.

I compared it to a curo, just glancing, and the ears are DEFINITELY different. The hands are, as well. I'd have to see a side view to comment on the head shape, but the lower lip is tucked farther in, to make the teeth. Very similar, but I'd say no to the recast idea.

    3. well the body from what I can see does look way different. but pipos does have 4 different ear options, so maybe it matches one? i haven't checked.

i don't think it's a plain re-cast. I think they may have modded it a *tiny* bit for the teeth. But looking at their other dolls, it's a total 180 from their style. Not even close. It seems way to odd, don't you think?

    4. I just checked the doll site itself and i saw another view of Jerry, and from what i can tell, they are totally different dolls ! I don't think its even similiar :) i like Jerry so far :D

when you think about it... if you made a rabbit doll... how different would it really look from pipos? I mean ... rabbits generally look like that dont they?

    5. well, i understand what you mean, but look at the cat situation. there are tons of cats but none really look like the pipos. The DZ rabbit looks nothing like pipos. None of the foxes of any company look similar at all. Jerry and Curo seems a little too close IMO.

    6. The shape of the jaw/cheeks and eyes look fairly different in the other angle shots. In general, it's really hard to say whether a doll is a recast or not just based on webshop photos, or even based on photos provided by two different members. The only reliable way is to get the actual dolls together in one place and compare them. Most of the time, it turns out that the dolls that looked so similar in photographs are pretty different when you see them right next to one another, but even when an accusation of recasting has been shown to be untrue, it can still hurt the company for a long time to come.

There are enough differences that what I would suspect they've done is looked at Curo and thought "we should have a bunny like that!" and sculpted their own bunny that looks similar to Curo. DoA is pretty strict about actual recasts, but as far as I've seen there's no rule against copying the style of a doll with an original sculpt.

    7. Is there a Link for this site?

    8. The site is http://kirakiraus.flowersunion.com/

Take a look at the other angles, from straight on they look very very similar but from the side they seem to be quite different.

    9. This bunny sculpt is by Coco Tribe, I think Kira Kira just makes the outfits. The new CoCo tribe animals are currently being reviewed by the Mods.

    10. Hmm... Though they do look similar, I can see a lot of subtle differences. For example, the face on Coco is a LOT more defined that Pipos. The eyes look to be shaped a little differently to me too ^__^
Overall it is a pretty close call--I think the idea that they were oogling Curo while sculpting is pretty reasonable though.

    11. Before you yell Bootleg I would like to point out it's a rabbit... so OF COURSE it's going to look like a rabbit and rabbits do tend to look alike you know.

But here the face shape is different so are the ears if you look closely and as far a mouth and eye placement goes... err they can,t put the eyes in the midle of the forehead, that's not where they are supposed to go. And as you pointed out Curos have chubbier cheeks.

Eyeballing Pipos... it might be true but who can really tell? IÈm just being the Devil's advocate here and I have seen way way too many people cry wolf on this forum.

If you are that concerned that Pipos is being copied, I suggest you send a e-mail or post on their QnA about it. They are the only ones that can actually do something about it.

    12. Anthros have to be on-topic before they can be discussed in this sub-forum. I'm closing this discussion

I'm letting the mods know about the cocotribe bunny to see if it meets criteria. Their other dolls (cat, fox, mouse) do not meet criteria and are off-topic for this forum.

Also the proper way to check if a doll is a copy is true side by side comparisons of the actual doll. Comparisons of images may not be as accurate and one is apt to only see the similiarities not the differences

    13. Cocotribe Bunny Jerry has been deemed on-topic so I'm reopening this thread.

Junya the representative from KiraKira has posted pipos vs cocotribe bunny comparison pics here
      Jerry from Coco Tribe

    14. well i'm convinced it's not a copy after seeing the comparisons but I seriously think they were using curo as a reference. There are differences but it still looks curo-inspired to me.

    15. To be honest i really can't see the similarities between them, they look completely different, but that's just me. If you are really concerned about this, contact pipos and ask them for their opinion, this is probably the only way you are actually going to know whether or not the pipos doll has been copied.

    16. A re-cast would be exactly (or thereabouts!) the same. This is obviously NOT a re-cast.

The look may be "inspired" by Curo's look. The side shots of them both look VERY different, though (photos posted in the Jerry discussion thread).

Big human dolls can look similar, too. Unless someone is totally re-casting, I wouldn't fret too much over it.

    17. It looks inspired by Curo...but the bunnies are definately different

    18. aahahah you know what they say about imitation and flattery...XD

i mean yeah. the dimensions may not be inch for inch exact, 'oh it's rounder here and longer there and a bit less wiggly all around' and what not, but it's about as close as you can get... i mean shoot.... there are 23847238742837434 ways to sculpt a bunny...so why do one with that high domed forehead, big eyes, little X nose? ah well. at least Curo fans can have TWO CUROS. from different places 8B

hahahaha i mean, you gotta give the folks props, right? GIVE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT:

      MOAR CURO.

hahaha personally i think it looks a bit awkward compared to Curo...it's a nice doll, but not entirely amazing, and just a little bland.
But you know me. i am a blatant Pipos fantard XDDD

i'd love to see someone sculpt a jackrabbit, or some kind of wild hare; they have excellent, angular features and could probably make an aweosme doll.

    19. LordHelmet- I think a Jack or a wild hare would make an excellent scalawag or villainous type character. I might buy one to be my vampire's sidekick, har, har.

    20. Ahhahhaha Like Bunnicula right?
