Company Body Blushing? Is it Worth It?

Dec 2, 2013

    1. I am thinking about paying to have the company body blushing done (LUTS) for my doll. I also am going to get the default face-up because I won't be able to afford the supplies to do my own just yet and want her to have a face.

I'm wondering your opinions on whether or not company body blushing is worth it or if I should just wait until I can do it myself? It is an additional $80 and will probably make it longer for my doll to ship.

Anyone have any photo's of body blushed dolls vs non body blushed dolls? Especially Luts Senior Delf Females :)

    2. It's really a personal decision and depends on if--

      * You really want your doll blushed (some people don't, and sometimes your doll will never be naked, so it won't matter).
      * You really love the way the company blushes.
      * You can't blush or don't think you could do it yourself and don't want to find someone else to do it.
      * You can afford it.
      * You check with the company/doll-size discussion and see if other owners have been satisfied, and it all sounds good.

I don't tend to blush all or most of my dolls. Blushing can wear off with lots changes of clothes and moving your doll around, so if I know the blushing won't ever show I prefer to save my money and not blush. I don't need to have my dolls look amazing naked. But others may want them to look good even under their clothes--so it's an individual decision.

I'll pay for it if I really, really love how the company blushes and I know it will show on the doll, and I don't think I could do it as well. In that case, I think it is worth it (if I can afford the extra money).

I CAN blush myself, but I don't even bother on most of my dolls.

And often I don't like how the company blushes...! That will make my decision easier!

    3. I personally can't see the point of body blushing, my dolls wear clothes that for a most part cover them up. If your doll is going to be wearing skimpy clothing you may want to try body blushing to give it an aspect of realism. Or don't. Personally I don't think it's worth $80.

    4. It can look really nice, and I've body blushed my own dolls in the past (it's pretty easy to learn how to do -- easier than faceups, really). However, I stopped bothering with it since my dolls don't really dress in skimpy clothing to show it off, and it can wear off with handling. It's easy to not touch a doll's faceup while playing with them, but you can't do that with their body.

    5. It's worth it if you think it's worth it. If you like the company's paint work and your doll will be displayed in a way that shows it off, then go for it! :)

I have one doll that came with full company blushing as part of an event, and I tried it myself once just as an exercise in doing it but otherwise don't bother with it myself. As people have said above, it rubs off whenever you move the doll and/or change its clothes and because my dolls generally sit on display fully clothed.

    6. I agree with everyone saing it's a personal opinion!

On my YOSD I don't have any blushing as well as my DOC because her body is so clunky :(

However, I'm getting a DC Youth 08 body which I think is just beautiful. Eventhough I don't plan on him being naked that often haha I do want to get him blushed to accent the beautiful sculpt. However, I don't want company blushing, I'll either be doing that myself or commissioning someone. :)

    7. I like having blushed dolls, it looks strange to me to have a heavily blushed head and blank body, if parts of the body show in pictures. However, I'd rather do it myself. I've never ordered a blushed doll, but two of mine (Jie Doll) automatically came with free blushing, and I wish they hadn't. I thought the company blushed way too heavily, it didn't match the faceup colors I wanted to use and they blushed the knees and elbows, which I really don't like because I think it looks weird to have bright pink knees and elbows, like carpet burn or something. lol Also because blushing in joints chips much easier.

But this is a personal decision. I don't like company blushing, but obviously, some people do or they wouldn't offer it in the first place!

    8. I ppersonally don't think paying for body blushing is worth it. No matter how long it stays it'll eventually wear off. But if you really want it and can easily afford it, then go for it.

    9. A few of my dolls are displayed nude and they have all over body painting & blushing, and I have one girl that has lots of freckles all over her, which is really cute. Other than that I don't have any dolls with just basic body blushing. It rubs off so easily and starts to look bad, but it can add a nice extra bit of realism. It's a personal choice. I do think $80 for basic blushing is a bit steep unless the seams are being sanded as well, though.

    10. Pop into the 'EDMONTON' meet up thread and track down some of the locals ... NeeP for one has Luts (Abadon for sure) but I don't know if her kids are blushed or not. There are a couple of extremely talented ppl here. But they don't do makeup commissions regularly. But you might get someone willing. And if it's 'nipple' blushing... it's hit and miss here some have the knack some don't lol.

And like they all say... it's a matter of your preference. I would not have my Iple men without the nipples done but I would NEVER get body blushing from Soul Doll... it just looks weird to me. (I like subtle, barely there, blushing).

    11. Thank you all for the replies. I have opted out of getting body blushing. Since I plan on changing outfits and handling my doll on a regular basis I don't think it will be worth the $80 plus extra time until she comes. I am quite artistic (sculpting, painting etc). So If I do decide later I want it, I will attempt it myself.

@ Lady Tiku - I will do that! Edmonton seems to have lots of people in the community! Maybe one day I'll get to meet some of you :)

    12. I really, really don't like body blushing. It's just too prone to getting chipped by the movement of a doll's joints, or rubbed off or stained by clothing. No matter how careful you are, eventually it's going to end up looking awful and having to be completely redone. <_<

    13. Thanks so much for asking this question. I've been thinking about this myself with my new girl, but having read all these replies and the pros and cons I don't think I'll bother either. I guess you don't think about the fact that you'll be covering the doll anyway until it gets pointed out, lol.
      Love,
      Lee

    14. I usually don't own company blushing, most of the time it's too expensive for my taste and not the colours I'd prefer. But when the colours really appeal to me and I couldn't commission any better from someone else then I go with the company blushing :)

    15. I personally don't like body blushing but if you really like it, go for it. You could be waiting a while and I personally, would prefer to have a professional do mine so she will be perfect.
I am starting practising face ups and body blushing this month, but I don't know if i'd do my own dolls until I know I am good enough. They'd go elsewhere.

But if I was you, I wouldn't get LUTS to do it. I'd get a faceup artist to do it cause they'll be cheaper than $80!

    16. I recently bought from LUTS, a kid delf cherry banshee, white skin. I got the default faceup because I was in love with it (limited edition doll,) and I'm very happy with that. They did not offer an option for body blushing and at the time, if they had, I wouldn't have added it; I know that much. I'm very happy with my doll, but my experience is that it depends on the doll, and it really depends on how much clothing the doll is going to wear. My doll's top is a corset, so she has these just.... bare arms. To me, with the skin being so pale, she looks like unfinished resin, if that makes any sense. I think you'll be fine either way, but that's just my recent experience with LUTS.

    17. Many things factor into this: How much skin will your doll be showing? How big are you on realism? Is it cheap in comparison to the price of the doll itself?

I'm in two minds about blushing. Personally, I want my dolls to be blushed, but I don't want to spend stupid amounts of cash for it. I mean, if I'm already spending a few hundred on the doll... I figure eh, I'll get one doll with blushing so I see how they do it, then do my own blushing!

    18. I personally wished that I could have ordered my Souldoll Elan with body blushing.

    19. I recently bought a secondhand dollzone petdoll fox. She was my first doll that had body blushing, and while I think that it looks nice, I would not order a doll with body blushing. It didn't make that much of a dramatic difference for me, and I handle her a lot, so much that I'm afraid that if I ever decide to sell her, some of it might be damaged. I don't like feeling like I can't handle my dolls, because I'm the type of person who takes them outside for pretty photographs and who likes to hold/cuddle their dolls. I have two SDs that look just fine without the body blushing. The body blushing always costs so much more that I feel as if it's just not for me, especially when I'm artsy and could probably learn to do it myself.

    20. My first doll was by DoD and they don't do body blushing and it always bothered me that her body was so...plain since she had this nice faceup. I'll likely get all my dolls blushed at some point. To me it adds a sort of...je ne sais quoi to the overall feel of the doll. But I don't leave my dolls dressed so they spend a fair amount of time undressed (though under blankets). At this point I wouldn't do without it if I have the choice. I could probably do it myself but I'm way too busy to take that one.
