It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Controversial Doll Stories?

Mar 3, 2010

    1. Say you had a story with a doll that pretained to Nazism. You weren't trying to idolize Nazism in any way, but you wanted to include that aspect of history into your doll's background. Is it morally wrong? Is it your right? It's YOUR doll, isn't it? What if you had a doll with a demonic story? Is it offensive against religion? Is it "satanic"?

Another member brought up the concept of disproportional dolls that do or do not represent different age groups (ex: a 70 cm doll with a 45 cm doll. Even if they're portrayed as "the same age", it still comes off as pedophelia to some users). And beastiality- of Anthros with tinies. Because these two topics are veiwed as socially or morally wrong, some users face scrutiny based on their choices for a doll story.

So what do you guys think? Who decides what you should or should not do with a doll story? Why do you think they think that? Where is the line drawn between morally "right" and "wrong"? And what makes something "controversial"?

With a community this large, with members from all over the world, it's hard to make sure you don't hurt anyone's feelings or offend anyone. I would love to know people's opinions about certain controversial topics that doll stories can be based upon like:

      Politics
      Religion
      Demons
      Heaven & Hell
      Nazism
      World Tragedies
      The list goes on...

Share your opinions with me, please. And thanks for viewing. ♥

    2. If you are at least 18 years old and have a controversial doll story, take it to an 18+ forum like Controversialdoll.com.

    3. I don't mean in all sexual situations. And I'm talking about the boundaries that can be reached on DoA.

    4. I'm not talking about Gallery rules either. This is pretaining to stories, not photographs.
@_@ there were no problems like this with the original thread. Only discussion.

    5. It might not be okay for highly rated stories to be posted on a site where kids see it, but I think its okay. I like to read controversial stories because it makes the dolls more realistic. I've seen some controversial things on here, but it wasnt as huge as the things on the list. Controversial is good. It keeps everyone human and shows off the different types of characters dolls can have.

    6. YOU, the owner are the only one who can decide what you get to do with your dolls' stories. Whether you can post said stories here or other places, well, that's up to the mods. The question of right and wrong and whether certain things are controversial are to a large degree very much personal and based on individual beliefs, so that's not generally something that anyone can make a decision about for anyone but themself. Personally, I think that people can do whatever they damn well please with their toys, up to and including making them things like drug addicts, cult leaders, Nazis, rapists, gangbangers or even the devil himself, if they like. It might not all be acceptable here, but I'm not going to say that someone shouldn't do something just because it makes someone else uncomfortable.

    7. Honestly, the old thread didn't stick around long enough for any dissenting opinions for the scenarios you posed.

In regards to controversial doll stories, a lot of the time it comes off as attention seeking not thought provoking.

    8. I find this slightly offensive. If someone was to make a story of a doll that had escaped from being enslaved, there was probably a deep thought process required to portray the emotional and moral aspects of their doll's story. There would be some thought provoking on the viewer's part, and hopefully some anaylsis on the issue of slavery itself. Hopefully no one would use it as a form of attention seeking.

And I am asking for opinions, not links to other sites. It wasn't my fault that a mod asked me to remove my personal story. Most people would look off the previous examples before leaving a thoughtful response, and would probably not have left links like that.

    9. This. I don't see a point for debate. Do what you want with your dolls, but if you're planning to tell people about it prepare to run into rules about what is acceptable per forum.

    10. Er...not always, honestly. I cannot count the number of, say, gay male rape/abuse victim characters out there. I can guarantee you that not every single one of them is well thought out and realistic and would venture to say that a good number aren't and that many are created less for reasons of "I want to explore this" and more for the OMG YAY ANGST! factor. Really, though, that's fine with me. Like I said, people are free to do what they want with their characters, and if that's what they want, I see no issue with it at all. Just don't think that every single character has a well thought out, deeply meaningful story. They don't need to, as far as I'm concerned. After all, most of us pretty much write/come up with these characters for ourselves, so as long as we like them, who cares what someone else thinks?

    11. Maybe I should reword this thread. Seriously. I'm talking about controversy between thought out stories and the reasons behind them, and also the scrutiny people who make these stories face because of the sensitive topics they pick.

I understand that it's YOUR doll and YOU cand do what YOU want with it. But it's someone ELSE'S feelings that you may be stepping on by being unscensitive about something.

Another factor of the controversy is people that senselessly use things like rape and such without thinking that there may be someone out there that has been raped and would be devastated to see it used in a light manor (I'm talking here about the obnoxious threads/stories that are portrayed in a lighter sense. This isn't contradictory to what I just mentioned above though, I'm just responding to your "OMG ANGST" remark.

    12. Wow, you're having a bit of a hard time starting up here, it seems. *_*

Anyways, I think it should be entirely case-to -case. I've seen dolls that are supposed to be ghosts. If that doll died by suicide, would that be too offensive? Nobody seems to mind a dead character, so why would HOW they died matter?

A friend of mine has a character who is a murderer and a sadist. It's part of the story line, and he's definitely a bad guy, there's no 'glorification'. If I made a doll of him, would that be wrong, even though I'm fully aware it's a bad thing? There's a difference between that and someone saying 'LOL HE LIEK, LUVS BLOOD!!1! DEATH IS LIKE SO TOTALLI HXC LOLO'. Shouldn't my disclaimer be enough to sort me out from someone who is clearly writing it into their story for enjoyment?

    13. I think there are instances where this type of dialog does happen, but, in my experience (just mine), I've rarely seen any of the more extreme taboos you've listed tactfully done. Not saying it can't happen, but those topics polarize people.

    14. Indeed, I am.
I agree that it depends on if it's glorified or not. And perhaps with something that could be a sensitive topic, there should be some kind of disclaimer or written something above the doll and anything that would be discussed with it. I don't think that there's anything wrong with portraying a character that has committed suicide or murder, as long as there's a bit of sensitivity out there. No one should endorse killing one's self or another, but I certainly think they can have the freedom to write about it. As long as they're extremely careful about what they say and display, as not to harm or offend anyone.

    15. I think the reason it doesn't happen often is because people are afraid to start a story like that because they don't know where the line is drawn. They're affraid of people's responses and don't want to offend people or not get comments (which is a bit on the extreme side, but I know some people that care about feedback quite a lot).

    16. Personally, I think I'd admire a story that was able to involve tragic or sensitive plot elements without pandering or glorifying. But that's just me. :sweat

    17. Now,see, this is a bit clearer. I think this is a slightly different question to what you originally asked, actually.
I think if people are handling something that could be considered controversial in a well thought out manner it isn't really their fault if somone else gets offended, provided they make it clear what the subject matter is going to consist of. I honestly believe that people shouldn't be forbidden from exploring certain subjects just because there's a possibility of offending someone, and that the person who's telling the story shouldn't be made out to be a horrible person simply because they wanted to explore a subject of that nature.

This is absolutely true. (I may say that yeah, it's fine with me to do that with your dolls if you want, and it is, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't occasionally irritate me to see certain things over and over and over.) I agree that sometimes people don't think about what they're doing with that sort of subject (the point of the OMG ANGST remark), and that is, to me, a big part of where the controversy comes up. I don't think that that kind of thing would actually *be* so controversial if there weren't people going "LOL my doll got raped/turned into a vampire/addicted to drugs isn't he DARK AND EDGY?" instead of actually thinking about "This happened to his/her character. What are the consequences going to be and how will they affect him/her and others?" That's what, it seems to me, causes so much trouble. I personally do not have huge issues with any subect all being explored, but other people do, and I understand that, to a degree.
I don't however think that their discomfort with certain issues should stop anyone from incorporating those things into their stories. Would I prefer that they at least tried to handle some things with a bit of care and tact? Yes. Is everyone going to? Definitely not.

    18. To that list, I would add:

      Angels
      Homosexuality
      Angel Homosexuality (Double no-no!)
      Paganism
      Plagiarism
      and
      Cutting.

Those are all hot button issues I've heard people discuss.

    19. If something offends me, I do my best to avoid it. I know this isn't the way most react, but seriously, why bother with it if you don't agree with it?

I look at it this way - It's perfectly okay for someone to write a character in a story that is just all ways of evil, perfectly okay for someone to write a back story about one of their characters who had all sorts of terrible things happen to them in their past, so it should be perfectly okay for someone to have a doll with the same "personality". Within the limits of DoA, I can understand not sharing the doll's past, but I don't see a problem with hinting at it for stories. And if you're asked directly about it, then tell the asker in a PM.

I don't have a problem with any of the scenarios you've posted above. But, I'm just one person and I don't offend easily.
