1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Delayed Gratification- The Dreaded Wait

Jun 23, 2013

    1. I haven't bought a doll in nearly 3 years now, so now that I have dealt with some personal issues, I am in a place where I can get back into the hobby and ended up buying three dolls in as many weeks. (an off-topic but still quite expensive doll, a Crobi doll, and a Luts doll) But now I feel as though I've forgotten how to wait.

I was quite a patient person before I ordered my first doll, but I hadn't been mentally prepared for the 3 month wait. It was excruciating, and I sat at home nearly every day and stared at pictures of him on the company website and here on DOA. I did end up going to a meet where I got to hold a doll of the same sculpt, which helped, but the wait nearly killed me. While it didn't keep me from buying more dolls it did make me wait a year in-between because of it.

My second doll wasn't nearly as bad. I don't remember it being so anyway. I'm not sure if this was because I didn't have to wait as long, I already had a doll to play with and distract me, I now knew how to wait for a doll, or some combination of the three.

So now that I'm sitting here, wallet empty, and preparing to wait at least another 2 weeks to receive the first of my dolls, and probably a month after that for the next, I can't help but think about what the wait does to us psychologically.

How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

How do you wait for a doll?

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

Sorry if this is a little long-winded.

    2. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
My first wait wasn't too bad since I only had to wait a few weeks for him. The wait for my second doll was a bit more painful even though it took less time to receive. I got her second-hand whilest my first came from the company. I think knowing what I was getting into got me even more excited for the second to arrive that it was difficult to keep myself mentally busy on other things. After #2 it got a lot better because I had plenty to keep my hands full.

How do you wait for a doll?
I've found that making little props helps to pass the time. Setting up a photo area or making a background for future photos also helps.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Nope. Honestly, I don't even think about the wait anymore. It might be because I've grown used to knowing that it'll take time. Either way, I like having a bit of time between paying and obtaining so I can get things ready for the newb to arrive. I like figuring out where they will stand or sit in my room, what props will be theirs, and coming up with themes to dress them in until I find out what their real personality is.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
I'd say the worst experience was when the tracking number didn't work and I couldn't get ahold of the seller to find out if it was incorrect. It turned out to be the tracking website's fault since it was going through a software update of some sort. Either way, by the time I received contact from the seller, I also received my doll.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Preparing a room or space for an incoming doll helps to pass time. Also, doing other things, like catching up on a missed TV season or doing yard-work/house-work/work helped to keep me mentally busy so I wouldn't fret too much.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I've used a waiting room a few times. It was ok but didn't really help me much. I think the size-specific threads are more help because you can build relationships with other owners better than in a waiting room where you'll only be spending some of your time.

    3. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
Well my first doll took about 2 months to get here, while the second one was purchased secondhand and was home in two weeks so I practically didn't wait for the second one :D

How do you wait for a doll?
I agonize until it gets here. There's really... Not much that can be done.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
I would almost never get what I want if I did.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
I'd say having half of the doll here and ordering the rest after. I hate that so close yet so far feeling. I just keep opening the box and going "uuuugh I can't wait to play with it!"

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
don't try to drown your boredom of waiting with doll clothes. XD

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
don't use them. The less I think about the doll, the better!

    4. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
Well, my first doll wait was a couple of months and pretty standard for how the company was at the time. I was so antsy and excited. My second wait was actually a 3 month layaway for my Soom Heliot during their Free Choice event, which seemed like forever, but I had much more patience.

How do you wait for a doll?
I buy clothes, make props, look at owner photos(if they're available), and hang out in waiting room threads.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
It really depends on how communication is going and how long the wait actually is. Generally, waiting isn't really that hard for me and I understand that these dolls take time to make.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
I've never really had a bad waiting experience. Getting dolls from the post office? That is a different story.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Find something creative and doll-related to do in the meantime. Distraction helps the time pass more quickly.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I love the waiting rooms. They keep me updated and allow me to see what everyone else is ordering.

    5. XD;; Not for me...The longest wait was probably for my layaway and that was three weeks...I actually cried once I was so impatient to get Avalon...My first doll though an OT one I bought through Junkyspot so she came within a couple of days...Same for my others, even my floating head came within a week. Avalon took a week too so the longest wait even with my Second Hand dolls was a week shipping. XD;; I'm patient so I just do stuff.

    6. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

My first doll (Latidoll) took approximately 8 weeks... Second (Luts) was around two weeks, which really surprised me - but it was probably because I ordered right before the Christmas rush and the company must have already been making the dolls that they anticipated would sell a lot. Third (Infiniti) doll took about a month.... Fourth doll, bought second hand, (Soom) took five months because I had it sent directly to a face-up artist who took a really long time to pain the face. Then I ordered another Soomling and he took about 3 months (not counting the time it took me to exchange a defective body part). My two Iplehouse girls took three months because there was a slight mix-up with my order - they were supposed to be shipped together, but it turned out that wasn't possible. They forgot to notify me and the boxes just sat until I wrote to them to inquire about my order and they were like "Oh. Oops."

How do you wait for a doll?

I go into total creative over-drive. I come up with a character for them, shop/make clothing/wigs/accessories/eyes, write their story, draw them a whole lot, find a face-up artist... Basically, I get very busy so that by the time the doll gets here there's already a lot of stuff waiting for them.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

Absolutely not, lol! I've waited for a year to receive a custom-made wig, and it's been 8 months since I ordered eyes for my girl. I may be a weird minority, but I love waiting. It's exciting, the knowledge that sometime in the future you're going to get a shipment notification and then a very fun package at your door... I get really creative too - it gives me a chance to experiment while I'm excited over my doll, which in turn leads to some very interesting places. I'd hate it if we could get our dolls faster - for me the wait it a necessary component of doll collecting and I probably wouldn't enjoy them as much if the wait wasn't there. (That being said, I do have my limits - I don't think I'd want to wait for a doll for over 6 months, for example, because you can only remain excited for so long...)

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

I don't really have any worst experiences of the scary variety - I was reasonably nervous when I ordered my first doll because it was still very new and I wasn't sure what the protocols were... But that wasn't too bad, and back then Lati's customer service was exceptional, so it all turned out well. I think the worst waits I had were for my last two dolls - I couldn't come up with a character for them. The ones they were initially meant to be were pretty much scrapped the moment I confirmed the purchase, and I just could not pin them down after that. I literally tossed and turned in my bed at night, unable to sleep because I kept agonizing over potential ideas and permutations of those ideas trying to figure out what I wanted.

      Ah... creative pains. :C

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

Keep busy, keep doing stuff! Shop for accessories, make your own, write/RP the character... Things that are fun, that feed off of your excitement, and that keep you busy.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

Errr... it really depends on the waiting room. Sometimes you get the right group of people and it becomes really fun - you just kind of create a little community where you share your excitement, ask/answer questions, share your plans for the doll and squee over any new purchases or other dolls (also sometimes chat about life - but of course it doesn't get too off-topic...). Then it becomes a really fun way to pass the time during the wait.

Other times the waiting rooms are really boring - people mostly just sign in to comment about what they bought and their status, and they're not too interested in any discussions. If, after a few attempts, I fail to generate a discussion, I will usually leave.

    7. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
My first doll actually arrived very fast, within two weeks, because in general BlueFairy is a fast company when it comes to most of their standard dolls. It maybe arrived a little TOO fast; it was meant as a Christmas present to myself, but since it arrived weeks before Christmas, I eventually got impatient, caved, and took a peak before wrapping it back up in its box for the actual day XD . I ordered my second doll maybe two years after my first? That one was a more typical wait; the estimated time before shipping was one month, but it actually turned out to be two months. I didn't mind so long as I knew it was safely being worked on and would end up to me within a reasonable window.

How do you wait for a doll?
Usually I just put it out of my mind on the whole and try not to get impatient, which is a terrible feeling, haha. I've been pretty good about that, up until the point where I'm expecting it to ship any day now and especially when it's actually on its way to me. Then the anticipation builds up all of a sudden and I want to check the status of my package a few times a day. Sometimes I might also start looking more at stuff I want to get for the doll before it arrives, but typically that's something I sort of do to pass time way before ordering anyway; normally, I already know what doll I wanted and have planned what types of things I want to get them way in advance, and sometimes I do order something here and there like wigs or clothes for a doll I plan to get much later.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
I guess so. I mean, I'm not exactly happy about the wait, for sure. But I haven't minded it much either, from my experiences so far. I don't think I could handle waiting more than, hmmm, five or six months tops? without getting pretty upset though, especially if the estimated processing time is explicitly stated and then far surpassed. At some point, I'd expect to be able to demand a refund.

But for me, bigger than the wait, the process of actually deciding to buy the doll and going through with ordering is a lot more stressful for me. I fight between feelings of if I'm being responsible, if it's worth it, if now is the right time or if I can wait longer (and longer...), and lots of that sort of stuff before being able to click buy, and I buy dolls pretty rarely. Once I've finally made an irrevocable decision, the relief from not having to think about it anymore and the happiness of knowing that something I want that badly is on its way to me is enough to blow most waiting anxiety to the wind. I'm happy so long as it gets to me safe and sound in the end.

    8. My first doll was second hand and he took only a couple of weeks but I still worried every day until he got here. I ordered my second from Loongsoul on June 6 and they are noted for incredibly long wait times and I'm struggling every day not to stare at his pics on the company website. I'm trying to fill the time and appease my first boy by building a sofa for them.

I try to live vicariously through DoAers who post pics, box opening etc.

    9. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

My first doll, if memory serves, took around a month to ship, and little over a week to arrive. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but the doll arrived within the time that the company said it would.

My second doll came from a much smaller company. They said an order could take up to 48 days to ship-- because of my previous experience, I thought they would ship sooner. In fact, they took more like 2.5 months. Which I know is pretty normal, and not that bad, but at the time I was very anxious and impatient.

The last doll I ordered took about 2 months, which is pretty much what I expected. The most intense part of waiting is always when the doll is shipping. I often cannot keep myself from checking EMS over and over.

How do you wait for a doll?

I um... stare at pictures at lot. There's not that much else to do, since I never, ever know what a doll's character will be like until they arrive. So, I try to get as many reference photos for face-ups, wigs, and eyes as possible. I experiment on their photographs with an editing program of some sort. Sometimes, I will roll around on the floor and tell anyone who will listen how impatient I am.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

I certainly believe that waiting for a doll that fulfills one's hopes is worth it. However, if a company has a wait of more than two months, I am deterred. Which is probably a good thing, more often than not.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

My worst experience was not that bad. It was my second doll, who, as I mentioned before, came from a small company, took longer than I expected, and then had a custom face-up that, despite my careful instructions and reference pictures, I just hated.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

Savour the wait! Think of it as a time for an anticipation that will make your doll's arrival even more special.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

Mmm, I have used them, but only the very big companies have active waiting rooms. Those can be very interesting and fun, but some of the inactive ones have been very much like announcing my exciting news to an empty room.

    10. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
Yes. First wait was terrible, even though I knew to expect it. The second doll seemed to arrive very quickly (just a month wait!). I think the first is always a bit tough, even if the wait is short. There is just so much anticipation and worries. After a few dolls, the wait can seem very long and actually BE very long, but those extra worries are just not so prominent. That's the way it is for me, anyway.

How do you wait for a doll?
I like the Waiting Rooms. Some are better than others for helping with the wait. At least they are there for support and to answer questions. Sometimes it's best to try and stay away from DoA and dolls for a while and pretend you aren't waiting at all.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Sadly, NO. I know about waiting and I don't care. I want the doll. If there's a wait involved, that's just how it goes if I want the doll. If waiting was a problem, then I suppose I just didn't want the doll that much!

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
None, really. I've waited longer periods because of long layaways--like a 6 month layaway plus several months to make the doll... That's a LONG time. But I REALLY wanted the doll and he's still a favorite. And I constantly do it again and again!

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Do whatever you have to do to make the wait as pleasant as possible. If you like being in Waiting Rooms and checking out other dolls, then do that. If you have to go away and distract yourself doing other things, then do that. Just relax and think that there is nothing you can do about it and deal! It's not going to kill anybody to wait. I think about people who get scammed and pay money only to get no doll at all--now THAT would be bad! Knowing that you'll eventually have the doll you want should make it easy to be patient.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I sometimes use them, sometimes not. Some are more helpful than others. I'm glad they are there, because sometimes you might have questions that can be answered there, or at least console yourself with others waiting along with you. Other times I can do without them... and in fact it is sometimes better to just distract myself in a non-dolly way!

They say that Patience is a Virtue!

I really don't have a problem with being patient. I'm just happy to be able to get that doll!

    11. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The first took forever (see worst experience :sweat). The second still took long (got caught in the xmas/event backlog), but I had my first home and could prepare her things based on the other's patterns and measurements, so it was a lot more relaxed.

How do you wait for a doll?

Well, now that I've got a few home, I prepare for them by making their clothes, maybe some accessories, all that. So when they come in, they have a bunch of things waiting for them.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

Not really. After what happened with Chris, a "normal" kind of wait doesn't scare me much. :sweat

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
My first was the Wait From Hell. Her LE was released when I was in the very middle of moving house, so I couldn't order her. So I waited a few months for her to be released as Basic edition, then waited for her to get here ... I swear, I was going insane sitting at home with all the freakin' time on my hands (didn't have a job yet), WANTING to prepare for my doll, sew things for her, but not having her (or any other to base patterns on) ... I did make some things "blind" and some fit, but it was the worst wait ever.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

See what you can do before they arrive. Do you sew? Are there patterns available for the incoming's size, or do you have someone with similar measurements home already? Or do they need anything craft-wise, jewelry, little things? A special seat on the doll shelf? Keep yourself busy with dolly things ;)

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

I use them sometimes. I like seeing the shipping notices going out for people, and at least the Iple one has an organized list that helps with estimating current waiting times, so I like following what's going on.

    12. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
I didn't have to wait more than a week for my first two dolls. I was lucky.

How do you wait for a doll?
I just look at pics of dolls and watch box openings. I try to keep busy so I won't think about it too much, but I still get obsessed.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
It doesn't bother me because I expect to wait a long time for dolls. I ordered one doll and was told I would have to wait 6 months for delivery, and I was fine with that. I ended up getting the doll faster than that anyway.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

Waiting for my Realpuki to arrive! That was the first time I had to really wait for a doll, and I was stressed out.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Be patient,BJDs are so worth the wait!

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I love the waiting rooms! I thought it was very helpful for me to see other people waiting for the same doll.

    13. Well this thread certainly got popular while I was at work.

I was annoying my friend today talking about the wait today and she said this to me, "Relax and be patient, let the company earn their money. They're providing you with a service just like a manicure or pedicure. This should be soothing for you." I liked that a lot and thought I should share it with everyone.

I think the main anxiety for me is the worry over whether they are going to get my order right or not. I have no idea where this anxiety came from though, because I've never had a problem with any of my dolls and from stories I've read I have no doubt that the company would rectify the problem should one occur.

    14. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The first was quite excruciating and a complication in his shipping made it even worse but it all worked out in the end! For my second doll I was waiting together with my best friend so it wasn't 'that' bad since I had someone to share the frustration of the wait with.

How do you wait for a doll?
I look at pictures and box opening threads and videos if they're available to alleviate the need to have the doll here NOW (sometimes this makes this worse though). I've also made it a tradition to try and sew something for the incoming doll xD I treat it as a kind of 'welcome home' gift.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Nope... I am still waiting on my Lati Yellow and it's been four months, not to mention my Dollfie Dream Sister Momo who may or may not be ready to ship in early December and was ordered in January this year (an eleven month wait!!!). Same goes for my Minifee Ante. I've been waiting for a month and a half already and by the time Fairyland ships her to Denver Doll it'll be late August so I won't see her home until September. -gosh do I feel like a masochist xD; -

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Waiting for my Crobidoll Yujin was TERRIBLE. We got him on Layaway and for his last couple of payments I had to hound the dealers down for them to confirm them. Especially for the last one they ignored repeated attempts of mine to contact them over two weeks and I had to eventually take it to the company the doll was from to have them contact them so he could be shipped to me. All in all he took six whole months to finally come home.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Be patient and don't lose the spark! You're going to love the doll when it's home!

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I love the waiting rooms! c: they're great support during the wait indeed and it's nice to see the list shortening until it finally gets to your order~ xD

    15. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
They were pretty similar, actually.. Wait-time wise at least. I guess the first time it was a lot harder because I didn't know what I was really getting into with dealing with a doll company and how the shipping process would go once it actually was shipped.

How do you wait for a doll?
I look at box openings of all kinds and hang out in the waiting rooms/discussion threads. I like to do clothes shopping, too. :) I also obsessively stalk my order page.... >.> Even though it won't change the very next day to 'on shipping'.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
..Mostly yes. I know I'm going to wait no matter which company I choose to go with but I'd most likely choose to order the doll with a shorter wait time than one with a longer wait time because frankly I hate waiting and it stresses me out way more than it should. :sweat

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
..It's pennies looking back on it but EMS didn't update the tracking as having left Korea and I seriously thought it was sitting in the airport storage thingy for 3 days (in which time it updated on USPS to show it had cleared customs.) :sweat

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
I should follow my own advice but don't worry about your doll coming because it will, eventually. >w< If it feels like the company is taking forever, just think of it as they're giving him/her some extra love. :) And also, one day that passes is one day less that you have to wait to bring your new doll home.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I do use them. I like seeing what others are ordering and the pattern (or lack thereof) that dolls ship.

    16. @Soenatte
Oh my GOD! You are a saint, I don't know if I could deal with waiting almost a year after I had already payed for a doll!

    17. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
Well, my second doll I waited about a week for, so that was a huge diff lol. My third, fourth and fifth were also short. I didn't really have to wait again until the El I ordered right from Luts....

How do you wait for a doll?
Layaway. It makes me feel like it's shorter, because I can't really wait until the doll's paid off, right?

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
No. If I really want it, I'll wait. I might go crazy (second week waiting for a migidoll head and I'm climbing the walls. I'm usually better than that, but there are circumstances lol), but it's usually worth it.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Dollshe. 14 months. Then, when the doll got here I hated it. I eventually sold his head and bought a different one, I like him much better....
The wait wasn't so bad, but the constant excuses and false promises got to me after about 8 months. Then after 10 months I got really pissed because they actually told me that because I ordered WS and only one doll, my order was getting pushed back so other people who ordered after me could get their dolls. Right. Never again.

I will say it's made four months for Fairyland and 6 for Dollzone or Doll Chateau look short. It's way easier to wait now.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Be patient and don't bug the company unless it's an extreme wait. Like more than 6 months, if it was supposed to be 6 weeks and no communication (or a bunch of excuses that aren't happening). They are going to get you your doll, waiting is sadly, just part of the hobby.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
They really don't anymore. Too much complaining. First of all, Dealers can't magically get you your doll. Hating the dealer does no good. I get really tired of dealer bashing. Group orders are going to take longer, deal with it or order from the company.
Second, people whining and moaning and threatening some kind of action after a few weeks gets old when an average wait is about four months these days. Or more, depending on where the doll is coming from.

Not every waiting room is like that, but a few of the ones I've been in the last year are just depressing.

    18. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

My first doll was ordered directly from Iplehouse, and my second was purchased second hand from the MP. The first doll was bought at the beginning of a major depressive episode, and by the time I got her (four months later), I couldn't care about anything. I ended up selling her. The second time, I was in a much better state of mind, and since she was already in the US, I only had to wait a few days to get her. Her clothes and wig took a little while, but that was the hardest part.

How do you wait for a doll?

Pretty much exactly what you did. Pictures, unboxing videos, shopping for and wishlisting future clothes and accessories. Since I had sold my first doll, I didn't have one to play with. That did make waiting for the third doll even easier though.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

No. It has been a deterrent for buying a doll from the manufacturer. I am taking that plunge again at some point this year though.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

Since I have only bought three, the first was it. I was going to make clothes for her myself, only I needed the doll to be able to draft patterns for what I wanted to do, so all I could do was buy fabric and plan. It drove me nuts, because I wanted to sew something, but the major projects I wanted to do required the doll. I did sew one thing that didn't require precise measurements so she'd have something to wear, but even that didn't fit the way I was expecting because it required some guesstimating.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

Make friends with other doll owners. Your non-dolly friends will get sick of your whining very quickly. My friend-at-the-time's ability to put up with that for four months was a key factor in him becoming my boyfriend. But having people who actually understand first-hand what it's like and can commiserate or distract you will make it a lot easier.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

It depends. The really popular companies will have loaded waiting rooms, so you might be able to find plenty of people to talk to there, and it will definitely help with my advice from the previous question. You can relate to that friend even more when you are waiting for a doll from the same company or even for the same sculpt. The threads that keep an actual waiting list going are the most useful, since you can see trends over time, and get information about things that are likely to cause delays.

    19. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The second wait doll was in stock at Denver Doll and arrived earlier. My first wait was ordered from the company and took maybe 2-3 months. She arrived super fast so it was a pleasant wait.

How do you wait for a doll?
I sometimes look at pictures and sometimes try to forget about it. I usually order the doll with a wig, clothing set, shoes, and eyes because it makes the wait worse when I already have everything. It's worse because I start wondering if it will all work together like I planned in my head. Once I get a shipping notice and tracking number I stalk the EMS and USPS sites constantly. XD

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
At this point, very much yes. There are dolls that I want but haven't bought just because of the wait. It could only be a one month wait but I still don't want to deal with it!

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
That would be my newest girl. She was a pre-order for A-Kon and we were supposed to pick them up from the artist at the con. That was an acceptable wait because she's gorgeous and worth it. The artist did her part by submitting orders on time to her casting company, but the company didn't complete and send the dolls on time! Argh! She didn't know what was happening and so we didn't know what was happening and it was just a frustrating experience. The doll was supposed to be here at the beginning of June, but they finally got to her midway through the month and my girl arrived on Saturday. It wasn't a months long wait, no, but when you don't know what's happening it can make two-three extra weeks feel like 2-3 extra months!

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

As difficult as it seems, try very hard to forget that you even have a doll coming. It's harder to do at the beginning and end of the wait, but it's worth it to try. If it helps, get a calendar and count out the advertised manufacturing period. Remember to account for any national holidays and ignore weekends. Try very hard to avoid ordering during an event unless you can order at the beginning or end.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
Sometimes. I started one for Soom Teschen and Mylo and that was a fun experience. Usually now I just visit the rooms to get an idea of how quickly the company is processing orders. Waiting Rooms *can* get ugly, though, especially if the company starts shipping dolls "out of order." It can get emotional quickly due to disappointment and confusion. People can get snarky about the company and it can kinda take the buzz away. Just ignore it if that happens.

    20. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

There wasn't much of a difference - my first 6 dolls all arrived within a couple of weeks (three were pre-owned, three came from dealers who had them in-stock), so by the time I actually pre-ordered one (it was my Pipos Dark Rabbit) there wasn't quite the same new-doll anticipation going on.

How do you wait for a doll?

I don't do anything in particular aside from seeing if I have hair/eyes/etc for them. So of course, if it's a new size for me, in which case I look into buying or making clothes/wigs/etc.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

Generally, if it's a standard 1-3 months, no. If we're looking at a company that has a reputation for 6 month+ delays, then yes, that puts me off. And technically shorter waits are keeping me from buying at this particular moment, because I'm relocating in 4 months, and wouldn't want a new doll to get lost in the mail.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

I haven't really had any bad experiences - my Angelheim Venetio took quite a bit longer than expected, but even that wasn't too long compared to some of those year-long waits that some companies have been known for.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

Just to wait, I suppose. :)

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

I use them if they have shipping lists - I think those are very useful when I'm considering making a purchase and am curious about wait times, so I always contribute to them so that I can help with other people's information gathering as well.
