1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Did you ever have to change your plans?

Mar 1, 2015

1. Sorry if there is already a thread like this ^_^;

Anyway, I want to ask if you had to change your orignal character's appearance for a specific doll? Because, I had my character drawn and planned out already before I even considered buying a doll. While waiting for that doll to arrive, I looked for wigs and eyes that would match her. I already had a wig and a pair of eye saved in a cart on those specific sites already....but when she came, she had a free set of clothes and a wig with her. [It was an event]. When I put on the wig and clothes, it looked AMAZING on her. I sewed a pair of thigh highs and an usamimi headband for her and it completed the look. Now, I want her to stay that way because of how good it looked on her.....but then I can't see my originaly drawn character anymore. I am still going to purchase the wig and eyes and sew her a dress [as soon as I learn how to sew].....but still, I find it hard have her let go of her current look. She just looks so perfect in them already XD haha Has anyone experienced this? It felt like the doll created its own character ah xD

2. Mine tend to do that a lot, especially the ones intended to be fan characters. I had a wig picked for the first of these, and then she came with a wig that's really cute in a totally different color and style then I had in mind. For now she's keeping it. At least the name I had planned for her worked. The second two were even less like their origin characters. Neither looks anything like what I had planned. The first of those two promptly insisted she was not the character I had in mind for her. I had a modern teenager look in mind for the guy, but hes seems quite happy in the men's dress clothes I made him.

3. Leo Pheonix Oh wow, glad I'm not the only one XD; It's just that sometimes, the dolls pick their appearances and outfits themselves. I know it's weird to say that since they're not really alive. However, they just sort of mold into this character you never thought they would mold into. I like it, even if I would still want to pursue my original plans. I will still try it, and if I don't like it, I could always go back to the perfect wig and clothes they 'chose' for themselves. It's just a pleasant surprise haha.

4. Yes! Currently going through that with Dana. I always pictured her as very thin and flat chested, but the SoulDoll Paris head is rounder than I realized and has a large neck hole that looks silly on super thin bodies. The head is perfect otherwise, so I'm just going to get a thicker body and assume Dana has gained her freshman 15. XD

5. I've had my original characters for years, far longer than I've even known about the BJD hobby (in fact, most likely predate the hobby itself), so I've never altered one to fit the doll ordered to shell them, no. I was lucky enough that the first doll I truly wanted to order was an excellent match for one of my main OCs, and have since found matches to several more.

There is one who's shelled in a doll that doesn't actually match her appearance at all, though. Maca, my Puki Pukisha (with the Pukisha parts), as a character is actually fully feline in appearance, rather than the anthro look of the Pukisha. And though I've shelled her as a Pukisha, her true representation is still fully as a cat; I'd meant to shell her as a Camellia Dynasty Wong originally, but the Pukisha was too cute to pass up, and I was willing to bend a little and use it to serve as her. But the design of the character itself never actually changed in the process.

6. For my first three dolls, I attempted to match sculpts with drawings I'd created of the characters. I was actually pretty happy with the face matches, other than two have noses that were a bit too pointy compared to the drawing.

My biggest issue has been with hair. My more conservative styled boy was easy to find hair for, but my other two have hair that's not quite so common in wig styles. I've settled on some wigs that work well as stand ins for the time being. It helps the two dolls in question have 'careers' where their hair does change quite often, so wearing a style a bit different from what I've drawn them with is understandable. But I fear I'm going to need to make some of my own wigs to make hair that truly suits these two's hair styles based on my original plans.

7. Yes, I have had to change my plans. I have one OT doll that I just can't get the right hair for. Fortunately her failed hair looks great on Amiga. :D

8. I have a feeling i might have to do just that. I have my OC in the best sculpt possible for her, but im not sure its going to look well with another sculpt i plan to buy! Im going to be devastated if they don't look okay together I hate changing characters :pout:

9. Yep, though mostly because I can't sew and just make things for myself. I can never find the right clothing for my doll. :c

10. Going through that now with Lavinia and she's not even here yet and probably won't be until late September. I'm already on a second and third wig and don't even get me started about her eyes. Pupil, no pupil, this pink or that pink....?

11. Yes, I find this is pretty normal when making a character, they will pass by different designs until getting their final one. When it comes to doll I have even change sculpts for it but my BJDs characters are specific made to have this representation so I take in consideration what is available on the market and what I can made while I create them.

12. I have that all the time. It is like with kids. You dream of them being this and that, but in the end they are just their own person and they will surprise you. Same with dolls and characters. They have their own personality. And as much as you may have all planned, it will still be a surprise once you meet them.:)
