    1. Hi all!

I have a question regarding doll care. I have been in this hobby for awhile now (since 2006?). I am very meticulous about how I care about my dolls. I use gloves when handling them and I always store them away from sunlight. I clean them regularly too.
I have always want to display/put my dolls in my room but despite how many years I have been in this hobby, I am always afraid that it will be bad on the resin or make up.
My room is lit pretty well with sunlight but I always have the blinds closed. So in other words, I do get nice filtered sunlight coming in but not the direct harsh one. Is this bad for my dolls if I keep them out of the box?

How do you keep yours? Do you display them/put them in your room out of the box or in their bags/boxes?

I would like to know what everyone does with their dolls :)

    2. I display my dolls in rotation and the rest not on display are stored in their boxes, so I do both.

    3. I've always kept mine on display in my room, though as much out of direct sunlight as possible. I like passing by and seeing them, even on days when I don't get to handle them (which, as a student, is most days lately), and having them boxed away is like not having them at all for me. In fact, for a brief transition period between residences, where I had most of my stuff in storage except what I vitally needed, even though that time too was rather busy, I missed having them around and was very glad to get settled into my new apartment and get them out on their shelves. So they're definitely staying that way for me!

    4. In their boxes. I'm very careful about handling expensive things, so I may display my Rualys occasionally, but when I'm not playing with her, she'll be in her box, dressed in white clothing.

    5. I understand your concern, but like vicemage, I really like displaying my dolls. Part of my enjoyment of them is seeing them displayed; I feel like if I keep something squirreled away in a closet I may as well get rid of it. This is part of how I view most of my possessions--if I'm not actively enjoying or using something, it is superfluous and needs to go.

For you, though, if it stresses you out too much worrying about whether you could be inadvertently damaging your dolls then I would suggest you keep on doing as you're currently doing. You're still enjoying your dolls, aren't you? If you feel like you're missing out by not displaying them, perhaps you could invest in some light-blocking curtains (especially) for times when you're not in your room. You could also invest in a display case with a curtain or opaque doors so that your dolls are only on display and being exposed to sunlight when you're in the room.

    6. I feel that way too! I like admiring how beautiful they are. But at the same time, due to the limited nature of these dolls I have concern factors too. However, I feel like I am not having the best out of this hobby haha...

Has it been okay for your dolls to be out in a dimly sun lit room (no harsh direct sunlight)? It doesn't really damage your dolls, does it?

    7. I was really good about putting my doll away at first but... I guess I kind of figure, if he's going to yellow anyway, why fight it too hard? Well that and I suppose I'm too lazy to be meticulous about gloves and boxes but kudos to those who can manage the upkeep

    8. I'm really new to the hobby, but I was raised with the idea that toys were pointless if you weren't enjoying playing with them. I try not to handle them too much, but I'd feel like I'd be wasting my money if they just sat in a box. I'm not planning on keeping them in direct sunlight or anything though.

    9. I like having my dolls out and displayed in my room, especially since their furniture and clothing has overtaken my own(I only have thirteen of them, how has this happened?). However, I am extremely paranoid about the sun, especially with my tan dolls(of which I have three) and have three layers of cloth over my window and the cracks on the side of my door with another layer of clothe that I can flip over the edge when the door is closed so that no sunlight whatsoever reaches my room. I still have them displayed with little props and furniture and stuff, it just makes it hard to photograph them with no good lighting...
But I usually take one or two of them out of my room to have in the living room when I'm doing other things, although the tan ones only come up on cloudy days or when the sun has set XD
I have come to terms with the fact that they will yellow no matter what I do, and the white skin doll I have been waiting to yellow to give him more color, so don't worry on it too much when I bring them outdoors for photos and stuff, but I balance that with knowing they will be yellowing as slow as possible when they are not outside and when I'm not actively playing with them but still able to see them whenever I want XD
I sometimes actually panic a little when they are in their boxes because I can't see that they are not being squished or broken or taken without me realizing it >->

    10. I display her on my dresser with my other nice stuff. She's out of the sun thankfully, but my room is pretty dusty, so I have to wipe her down with a dry cloth every month or so. I really need a glass display box one of these days.

    11. I would love glass cases! Especially if I could have a case with an easy to use door on it...

    12. Mine are always displayed, in their own room that has the windows completely blocked out. I don't get to play with them much, work keeps me too busy, but I love to just look at them even for just a few minutes each day. I didn't buy them as an investment. I bought them to enjoy their beauty while I can.

    13. I've been in the hobby for 1 year & I definitely display my girls. I am a bedroom person & have been my entire life. I have them in an antique armoire next to my bed where I can see them all day & all night. I NEVER get tired of looking at them. I have been a doll collector for many years & I've never loved any dolls like I do my BJD's. I only have 5 ( 4 SD's & 1 Minifee ) & want many more. I'm a girly girl & so are my BJD's. Luckily my window faces the north. I get 0 sun in my room.....only north filtered light. I keep the blinds closed but my room is still bright. I have lots of dolls that are boxed away & the only time I think about them is when I think of all the stuff I need to sell/get rid of.

    14. I don't always put them in their boxes, but I try to keep them there most of the time. I'm paranoid about the sunlight. I know they're going to yellow anyway, but I'd like to delay/decrease that for as long as possible. Sometimes my dog and cat are too interested in them as well. I've been thinking about moving the dolls into a doll cabinet that predates my BJDs, but I'm not sure my SD girl would fit in there comfortably.

    15. Back when I got my first dolls, I kept them in a drawer when I wasn't handling them. Eventually I stopped really caring about that because I had too many to fit in the drawer and I guess it never really occurred to me to put them back in their boxes.

At this point, my room would just feel too empty if they weren't on display all the time. I just enjoy being able to look at them when I glance around the room.

    16. When I know I'm going to be at my desk for a while I'll usually have a doll or two out but most of the time, since I like to keep my window open for the sunlight, I keep them hidden in their boxes away from the sun.

    17. I display my boys on my desk in my room, because I want to see them everyday after I back from work. Just seeing them there makes all the trouble goes away and makes me happy. I also keep them away from sunlight and clean them every weekend. ^^

    18. My dolls are always out, though the corner where they tend to stay is shadowed. I couldn't stand to store them in their boxes because I enjoy being near them so much, and throughout the day when just passing by or glancing over I just feel happy every time I see them. It's a large part of why I have them at all. The only time I would put them away is while on vacation. For that occasion there is a drawer with dolly pillows where they'll be cozy until I return.

    19. I keep mine out in my room which has blackout curtains. 5 of them are on a shelf and the other two on the desk. I'd love to have a glass case for them, though. They get dusty sitting out and I'm paranoid that the cats will knock one over. They're not allowed in my room unsupervised, but there's always going to be that one day you forget to close the door...

    20. I keep them in their boxes for a few reasons.

      1) Yellowing - I know they will yellow anyways but why help accelerate it? More worried about greening for my tan dolls than yellow for my NS and WS though.
      2) Space - My collection keeps growing and I don't have enough shelf space for them. I also don't want to look like a crazy doll lady when people come over...
      3) People touching/damages/dust - I don't want people touching them and I also don't want them toppling over or collecting dust.

Another reason is that I have quite a few limiteds so I just in general feel the need to try to preserve them. Since I have mostly tinies they are easy to store. If I had a MSD sized doll that wasn't limited, I think I'd want to display her.
