1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you do box opening video everytime?

Feb 24, 2015

    1. ^_^ I used the search function and I don't see any similar threads...but if there is, please kindly remove this thread~:)

Just as the title says, do you have the habit of doing a recording of your box opening for your dolls? (new or secondhand)

I just did one yesterday and now I feel it is a very important habit (in my opinion) because almost 4 items are missing in my parcel!! *_* I am very glad that I did one so that I have evidence to show the company and can ask them to replace them (and I hope they will) :doh I have also heard people saying that doing a box opening can prove that you are buying a legit doll...

Please tell me if you do a box opening recording / photos, and what you think about box opening videos~~ if they are necessary to do (for evidence / proof of legitity...etc)

      :dance:dance:dance

    2. I really enjoy both boxopenings and videos. For me: both as a seller and buyer (not of BJD's but of other dolls) I do find it extremely important to do box packing and opening photos of all stages of the process. To record both missing items or broken items due to poor packing and as a seller to be able to prove item condition and packing method. :)

    3. I enjoy watching box opening videos too but I've never recorded one myself. Sometimes I don't even have the patience to take photos.. I think next time I will though, because this thread made me think. I've never thought the videos as a prove of missing or damaged items or the legitity of the doll. That's a really good point!

And I think the box opening videos will also be fun to watch afterwards. They're great memories. :) (Well, most of them, I'm sorry to hear about that, Honeyrainamrita )

    4. Oh my I really want to create one soon. I actually didn't for my first three dolls but I have two more on the way and so I hope to create some video's. Honestly it's good to create the video's so people can see how beautiful some brands of dolls are. It's literally impossible to find anything on IMDA'S from Soom so I hope to be one of the first people to post a video of the fullset box opening of Jane.

    5. I'm too shy for videos, so I do pictures instead. They're easier to tweak and manage on my end. I like seeing other people's videos and pictures of box openings, too. I don't think they're absolutely necessary, but they are still fun to look at.

    6. I did not record my face +_+ Im also not very comfortable being in the recording~ haha... But I did squeak a little when I see my dolls ^_^b... I don't think I will share my recording on youtube but just to keep as a record... But I do share photos on instagram and DoA/other forums >.<

    7. Thanks, I hope I will get them replaced soon >.< I think after this time, I will just record everything just to keep record... Sometimes photos cannot prove the whole process >_> in my opinion)

    8. Most of the time I do but I have a bjd Yt channel so it's fun. I didn't show my last doll box opening but most I do. Esp. If it's direct from the company

    9. I've done a few videos, but I don't do videos for every box openings. Some dolls arrive on days when I'm sick, so I only have the energy to open the box and check everything's there and undamaged. I don't talk in my videos, as I find it weird to hear myself talk. I end up speeding the video up and adding music.

    10. I always try to make a box opening thread. Most of the time, I use it as a chance to write a quick photostory. Even if I don't post the photos online, I still have them as evidence if something is broken or missing.

    11. I never, ever do videos. I also never watch them; they take too long, when all I want to see is the sculpt "in the raw" and the way it's packaged for shipping.

I do, however, always take photos, even if I don't intend to post them, because you never know when something might be missing or damaged, and having those immediate photos on hand as documentation can be helpful. Luckily, I haven't had problems so far, but I'm glad I have those photos "just in case."

    12. I'm going to order my doll tomorrow, and I can't wait to do a box opening video! I love watching them, and I want to preserve the memory for myself, doubtful I'll post it. I really want to do a photostory with a box opening, but like someone else mentioned, the video would make better evidence. I just love looking at other people's box opening and photostories and I cant wait to make my own.

    13. I've taken photos, but never done a video. It's easier for me to do photos because I only have a small tripod for my big camera.

I do like looking at box opening photostories, though. I love seeing someone getting a doll they've been looking forward to getting. Even more so when it's someone's grail.

    14. I am totally the same way. I only take and look at photo box openings.

Plus I am not a fan of how some people will have to flaunt every personal aspect about themselves in a video. It becomes less about the doll than "Here is my anime and manga collection in the background and I am listening to Japanese music, and look at my cosplay while I speak in a really super cute voice. And in case the mic does not pick me up I will TALK EXTRA LOUD!!!"

(Please note, I have NOTHING against otaku. Heck, I was once one myself and still have quite the amount of anime, manga, figures, and music, but I find the over abundance of it annoying in box openings for some reason.)

It is either that or the person has the camera angled so all I see is the person's chest or crotch and I cannot see the actual opening of the box, and when they do finally (and briefly) hold the doll to the camera, it is not even in focus!

I am sure there are wonderful video box openings out there, I just gave up a long time ago of even looking for them.

    15. Haha, if I do make a video, I make sure all that stuff IS NOT in my video. Yet somehow my videos end up between 12 and 30 minutes, and I've already cut the box open before recording. I should probably buy a new webcam so I can see what I'm recording while I record.

    16. I didn't for my DollLove head because she took me by surprise she was due in March but came in mid February XD

    17. In 7 years of owning resin, I've never once done a box opening video. I'm not interested in having strangers look at me and judge. :P

I used to always take pictures, but I don't even normally do that anymore. If the box looks damaged, I will then just to document it, and delete them once everything is okay. The only time I've received anything missing was when my Bobobie doll showed up with broken, missing fingers. But Bobobie didn't request a video or anything other than pictures of the breakage.

    18. lol
I can hardly contain myself for a few photographs, phew not have patience for a video

    19. I haven't done one yet, but when I get in my expensive fullset dolls later this year I will. I just want to have proof of damage or missing items in case it happens.
I don't know if I'd ever put them up on Youtube though.

I love to watch the videos though. It gives me a good idea on what to expect from different companies, and problems a doll may have when coming out of the ox.

    20. I never do box opening videos, but I do box opening photoshoots. I feel that they are more enjoyable to scroll through (not to mention a bit quicker). I think it's fun to see the excitement in videos, but I have never seen a good, clear shot of the doll or sculpt in a box opening video and honestly that's what I'm there to see. I've never needed to provide a video when asking for a replacement part. I've had a head arrived with a broken elf ear, and another time I received two left feet :XD: Both companies asked for photographs and promptly sent out the replacement pieces.
