Do you go through "stages" when making clothes for your kids?

Aug 8, 2010

    1. A couple of months back, i got my EID Ashanti. Now, i can't stop designing stuff for her. Do you go through stages when making clothes for your kids? Meaning the newest one always gets all the new clothes and such? It seems she's the only one i want to make outfits for!

    2. It's not always the newest ones, but I do find I go through periods where one doll will inspire me more than others. I've found I love sewing for Super Gem girls and I keep going back and sewing things for my husband's Beryl.. which means my own dolls don't get much! XD

    3. Yeah, that happens to me too. Usually when I get a new doll I will spend all my time sewing for that one, but for some reason after I finish their outfits, I always go back and sew for the first doll I ever got. He's an Iplehouse Louis named Kael and he's a cross dresser. He definitely has the most clothes, I think he is my favorite to sew for. =3

    4. The new one gets an outfit to welcome them. Looking at my history I've made, or offered to make, a new outfit for my favorite for his birthday. Then again he has an Xmas outfit I cut out 2-3 years ago I haven't finished. Recently my sewing has been for a specific project, like cosplay, so the outfits go to whomever fits the character best. It feels good when an older member of the family can join a newer one in something.

      Don't worry about spending more time on one doll or another, keep track of your designs in your portfolio and go where the creativity leads you! Just don't forget to share pictures of your creations :)

    5. Mine are more the type/style of clothes I make them... I'll get caught up in one period - 1870's, Medieval, or whatever - and make numerous desing sketches during my commutes and then start cuttig out some outfits in that style.

      Occasionally it's a particular type/style of garment - last Christmas, for example, it was pinafore dresses for my various girls... some of which are still unfinished (one just got finished a coupe of weeks ago)

    6. Stages? Sure. Right now I'm in the "I don't give a rats" stage, haha.
      At the moment I'm bouncing between dolls. My Byggs are finally getting their wigs and I know I'm going to have to sit down and sew pants for them. I also have a pipos Baha that's in desperate need of clothes. It came with a shirt and a pair of pants though I decided that Tiramisu would be a girl and so her clothes were given to another doll. I have a lot of work to do currently though, hence the rats comment!

    7. I go through phases too. I have to force myself to sew for the girls for some reason and I can't get myself to sew for the SD boys at all, I trade for their stuff. I always go back to dressing my two big boys I just love to sew for my Jace and my Saint they look so elegant in anything.

      When I got into the hobby I was sure I would prefer dressing my girls making all these frilly dresses, but no! I discovered it's tailoring I like to do: suits, shirts and ties. And it's definitely the 70cm boys that inspire me, my SD size ones only have clothes that I bought them or traded for.

    8. I have to confess, this is kind of how I am. Right now everything I make is intended for Chae-ri.

    9. I go through stages, but not nessesarily which doll gets what. I go through sytle stages :sweat Sometimes, I feel like sewing cute frilly dresses, so my Yos get those. Other times, I just want to sew casual things like tees and hoodies. Now, I'm in a frilly blouse stage :'D

    10. I actually think going through stages in your creativity is a good thing, because that's just a reflection of where you're most inspired at that given moment...and inspiration positively motivates the best artistic production. Because of that, I think it's best to just follow those instincts whenever you can. I spent the last year-and-a-half totally redoing my collection (downsizing from SDs to MSDs,) so things have been really crazy around here creatively (finding the right sculpts, building new display areas, making clothes and wigs, doing faceups, etc.!) So I really look forward to actually being able to "go through a stage" with one of my dolls again and focus all my inspirational creativity on one rather than having to spread it out evenly among so many!

    11. Gosh I'm kind of like that but it's mostly for designing clothing than actually getting around to sewing them ^^; lol Now if only I can start actually making some I'd be good X.x;

    12. Heh, of course! If I get a new doll, I want to focus on fleshing out that particular character, because if I don't, what's the point of owning it? Clothing, wigmaking, and accessory creation all focus on the new doll during the first few weeks of ownership.,
