1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do You Have a Doll Time of Year?

Apr 26, 2015

    1. So I have been in and out of the hobby for the last few years. Going to college really limited my doll buying abilities and provided me with a lot of time constraints.

However last in early summer I suddenly got the urge to check up on here. Then I saw the KDF Bory Moonlight Song Unicorn boy. I fell head over heels in love and bought him, after not having bought a doll since 2011.

And again, this year, I am back. I bought a new outfit for another boy, and now I am eyeing new dolls.

I don't know what is wrong with me! At no other time of year do I hardly think about this hobby. Of course, I could attribute this to my business with school, but even on breaks I do not feel these urges.

Does this happen to anyone else? Do you have a special "time of year" where you go doll-crazy?

If this topic has already been discussed, please remove or merge. I did a search but yielded no results, but I surely could have missed it!

    2. My dollie time is when I have money to spend...so Christmas/birthday and tax time, lol.

However, I do switch between my hobby focus once in a while. I'm not 100% what makes me "crave" one more than the other at the time.

In your case, summer and winter are when the best events are going on, so it's a good time to be into dolls!

    3. Never thought about this before. I play with my dolls year-round, taking pictures and making small purchases. Big purchases, like a new doll, come with tax returns in the winter.

    4. Mine is late December through late February. I always get money as a gift from my parents and in-laws for Christmas, then again in February for my birthday. Unless I sell a large item, this is the only time of year I'm able to just buy a doll without layaway or saving for ages. So I usually do splurge and get something that I otherwise might need to think hard on for months.

    5. I buy the dolls small items all year long. I tend to buy a doll maybe once a year, either as a birthday treat or a Christmas present to myself.

    6. What I enjoy most is doing faceups. We had a real heat wave for the past two months and it was way to hot for any kind of work, no matter how much I may love doing it. Past autumn and from spring till early summer I've had a very creative time though. Looking forward to nice weather again.

    7. Springtime is photoshoot time! The outdoors beckons and there are flowers.

Early summer is the best time for doing mods around here- nice dry weather for spraying! I have an indoor spray chamber but humidity is something I have yet to have much control over.

Fall is another favorite time for photoshoots.

Wintertime is sewing time! With all the cold and snow I spend more time indoors, and that's when I get down to serious outfit making.

    8. I've found my doll times are usually around Summer Break when I have a side job and more spending funds, and lately one doll somehow manages to squeak in around Christmas.

    9. Spring and Fall here tend to be the best times for faceups/blushings. It's way too humid to spray in the summer (though I've occasionally found days where the humidity will drop, and if I know they're coming I'll quickly prep someone for work). Winter's not too bad, it can be too cold but it's not as brutal as it was where I used to live, and the spray I'm currently using is a bit more forgiving of cold than some other brands.

I don't really have any specific time when I might buy dolls, sew for them, or shop for accessories. That's more of an "at whim" sort of thing. Though summer and winter are definitely more prone to be times when I'd work on things that don't involve spraying. And I seem to end up doing my GOs at the end of summer and after the holiday season most of the time.

    10. Summer seems to be a big "off time" for me--it's deathly hot out here, and summer sunlight here is super harsh, so outdoor photos are an absolute no go. Luckily it's mostly dry, so I can theoretically do spraying for faceups; however, I only do faceups occasionally, so if I'm spraying things they seem to be non-doll stuff. XD

Fall seems to be my big sewing push, because I suddenly remember, "Oh god, Halloween and Christmas are coming up, I need to get everyone gussied up for the holidays!" XD

    11. I usually buy one or two dolls a year; one during Christmas so it would arrive in March around my birthday and possibly if I have extra funds and there's a limited doll I must have. I'll buy small things like wig, clothes, eyes, and props throughout the year.

I do see things all year round except on those rare days when it's too hot. I only get to do faceups on my days off but fortunately the weather here is perfect for faceups almost all year.

    12. I definately buy more dolls around Christmas time as my birthday is also in December so it's usually a bumper month for me.:celebrate I don't tend to purchase as many dolls or dolly related merchandise during the summer months. A bit of a dry spell lol.:wiggle Furthermore i'm extra careful with my resin dolls during the summer months, often storing them away because my room faces East and it tends to get very warm in there in the mornings even when keeping my lined curtians drawn it still gets somewhat bright in there so i'm rather cautious. If I see something that I want that is relatively rare and I have the funds I will grab it while I have the chance regardless of the time of year but big purchases tend to be in the latter half of the year.

    13. My first two dolls both arrived in late January/early February. That seems to be my doll arrival time. The first time I bought one during the summer felt super weird. Recently though, I've noticed my doll time shifting toward the summer months.
