Do you hide your dolls when a repair person comes to your house or apartment ?

Jan 23, 2013

    1. Most of the time I will just close the bedroom doors where everyone is kept.. but today I had a repair man here.. & I had changed one of my girls outfits & she was sitting on a stack of doll boxes on the bed !! So has anyone else had a .. don't mind my dolls experience ?

So when he was explaining something.. he had this strange look on his face.. & I took a look.. but what can you do *_*

I did not say anything, but I did not want him asking to see or touch :? Maybe he was just in awe of her lovely Spring strolling outfit ;)

    2. Hahahaha I know this expression
I live in a shared apartment and all my stuff is in just one room. All my 700 ponies plus my over 30 dollies (Pullips and BJDs) take most of my space and live in huge shelves all over the room. There is no way to hide any of them so I always get these strange looks. But I don't care what strangers think about my collection :)

    3. When I had a guy come out from Comcast to put my cable in my back bedroom where I have shelves on the wall.. & my Army of Pullips & my BJD girl were sitting on the desk.. but I moved them bc he was messing around with the entertainment stand where they usually kept court.

So he started talking about the Twilight Zone.. asking if I ever felt like they might try & kill me  I told him... maybe my wallet.. but not me ;)

    4. :)Nope l don't hide any of my dolls from anyone. I did scare the cable/internet guy once due to one of my dolls had those red blind eyes in and l guess it scared him etc but he didn't say anything about it.

    5. Nope. I would only move them if they would be harmed if I didn't.

    6. This happens to me quite a bit as I'm a landlord and often show strangers round my house! Generally I keep my room closed, but there have been times when the door has been open and I've been worried they'll see them and think I'm some kind of freak. Usually I wouldn't care at all, but when you're trying to seem NOT like a freak and you're hoping people will like you and your house enough to pay good money to live there, it's not a good idea to have a bunch of big creepy dolls lolling around the place!

If it's a workman or someone like that, though, then I don't mind. I don't hide them or anything. Maybe it's a British thing, but most people I've had round are too polite to be all "what the hell is that?!" when they seem them. They generally politely ignore them... maybe with a frightened glance and a few stutters at first.

    7. Regular people? No. Repair men and people like that? Yes! Because they tend to not be very careful and their hands are usually dirty. It's difficult enough to get them to take their damn shoes off! I put them away just to keep them safe.

    8. I only hide my dolls if I think they may be in danger otherwise. I'm not ashamed of them. My dad owns a furniture store and delivers pieces to people. From some of the horrible things he's told me, my dolls are NOTHING to be embarrassed about!

    9. My guys are residing in the bedroom and I usually close that door when there are strangers in the house
(nothing to see there anyway *messy bed*) So they should be out of harms way. If work needs to be done there I'll move them to a safe place.

    10. Nope. Especially now that I have a doll display case (really a bookshelf with glass doors, but it works and looks lovely!) so they're safe. No accidental bumping, as it's mounted to the wall to keep it from falling over since it is large and heavy, and I have small children and small pets I wouldn't want hurt by it falling on them if there was an earthquake or something. We live REALLY closes to a fault line. Before I had somewhere safe to keep them, if they were on my computer desk I would just leave them there, too, unless what needed to be looked at was close to the desk. If I have some out because I'm working on them, or have been taking photos, I leave them set out where I'm working with them. In whatever state they might be in. *shrugs* THAT look is nothing new to me, and considering the things that get left out at my dad's place, or are stored in the open in his garage, I figure my dolls are the less freaky of the things that COULD be seen! My dad runs a haunted house out of his yard every Halloween, so he has bloody limbs, grotesque severed heads, zombie babies, killer clowns, and all kinds of awesome stuff kicking around his place! My dolls are NOTHING compared to THAT!

    11. Nope. I dress them to the nines and get them to carefully stand and tell them that I really don't want them to be touched. My cousins will look at them but never touch. I pick the stuff I spent hours working on too so they know if it's damaged I'll be pissed.

      It seems to work.

But yeah if a cable guy got near a resin of mine...He'd be kicked out...Or my doll would be snatched up into my arms. I already had a DirecTV guy break a part of my wii.

    12. I only hide my dolls to protect them from negligent people other then that I can care less what others think when they come over. If they don't like them then they can LEAVE. lol

    13. If anybody comes into my apartment during the day, while I'm away, the dolls are all covered with drapes-- so I bet my living-room looks even creepier than it would if the dolls were all sitting there exposed. But, y'know, since I'm not home, people's reactions are not my problem, so I don't care.

If anybody needs to do work in my living-room while I am home, I just say "please mind the dolls". I also offer to move any of them that're in the way, for whatever reason. Nobody's ever said anything about them before. They probably see doll collections all the time.

    14. I don't hide a thing ... neither my dolls nor my instruments. I'll put them out of harm's way, yes, but I wouldn't hide them for no other reason than keeping them out of sight if they're safe enough where they are.

    15. Nope. I either get the opportunity to meet a new friend or creep someone out.

    16. It's funny you made this thread considering it fits my current situation exactly. Last night, I hid my boy in a large shoe box and put him on the top shelf in my closet before the cleaning lady came. She isn't supposed to go into my room, but she always does and vacuums. :| It's weird, because I have many different dolls displayed in my room already, yet I felt the need to hide my BJD. Maybe it's just because of how much he cost compared to my other dolls, and thus I want to be sure he's safe from the dangers of outsiders. lol

    17. I dunno. I feel slightly embarrassed about strangers seeing my extensive pony collection and I also have two lizards in my room, as well as bugs. So it's definitely going to be extra "creepy" when I get a doll haha

    18. I've never hidden any of mine and I've had lots of interest and discussions about them with repair men I've had to the house. Most have said they have a family member or friend who collects/makes dolls. Maybe I've just been lucky :)

    19. I hide some of my more expensive or hard-to-find dolls usually only when there are children over at the house. I have a LOT of toys of all kinds around my house, but somehow their sticky hands always end up on my most precious dollies if I don't put them away ;)

    20. {laugh!} Not at al.

It would take about three days tohinde all the dolls, bears, action figures etc that are all over the house.

Not so much as a flicker from the three plumbers we had in to install new boiler and fix the central heating last year - but they're probably used to working for Little-Old-Ladies with houses crammed with Franklin Mint doll collections, and non-doll people often can't tell one type of doll from another.
