1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you make prints of your doll photos?

May 9, 2015

1. A lot of people take absolutely stunning photos of their dolls; I'm wondering if anyone chooses to print their photos (as in, photos they've taken themselves of their own dolls)?

Sure, we can have the doll on display... But some rooms aren't suitable for resin (too much light, etc.) or a photo might be in a totally different setting. So I'm thinking of some big prints of my favourite pictures, say an 8x12" or 10x12" size to frame and hang. Does anyone else do this? Would you? Would anyone consider doing a photo book of their dolls?

Do you think non-doll people would be more or less comfortable with a photo on display or the real doll?

2. This is definitely something I would consider if I had the spare cash for prints! I am trying to learn photography and take better photos of my dolls, for those reasons you mentioned - I usually keep them hidden from any light, and so having their photos is a way for me to still appreciate them without displaying them too much.

However, I haven't gotten to the point where I think my photos are picturesque enough to frame up, although I hope to reach that point someday! My opinion is that photos that have more frontal views of the dolls' faces may tend to make non-BJD hobbyists uncomfortable. If it's an angle that doesn't show the face, it doesn't seem as intimidating. Apart from the legacy of Chucky, many non-hobbyist feel uncomfortable due to the "realism" of the dolls, or their unrealistic proportions, or the expression of their eyes.

I tend not to display my dolls when I know I am having company, as most people are not doll hobbyists and often make negative comments that make me uncomfortable (it's more like, I don't like being put in a position to respond to them), or feel uncomfortable themselves. I think that depending on how it's styled, photos can actually be better than seeing the actual dolls for them.

If you feel like framing your photos, go ahead! It's a great idea that helps to protect your dolls and allows you to visually appreciate them more easily ^-^

3. I did for a photography class and they were really well received. Otherwise, no.

But I would totally sell prints of them if someone wanted one!

4. My tiny's house has pretend framed pictures of my other dolls on the walls. Does that count? I don't print much. Ink's expensive. :pout:

5. I'm not that great at photography, sadly. I love taking pictures.
This topic makes me want to take a sort of 'doll family portrait' someday and blow it nice and big and frame it on a wall. I uh, would just need enough dolls to take the picture first.

6. Temishi that sounds like a lovely idea!

7. I plan on making prints of my doll photos when I have enough time on my hands. Being a college student, I don't have a lot of spare time to take photos. :)

8. I haven't made prints of my BJDs yet, but I plan to for the photography contest at my hometown county fair that I attend every summer. Should be fun to see how it is received :)

9. I like taking photo for my dolls, although I'm not really skillful. :XD: Every year I collect their photos and make it into a photo book. Yesterday, have just received my second finished one. Somehow comparing to last year...It looks much better. So now I'm going to collect more photos for next year.

10. I like it better when most of the walls in my flat are blank. Since I've moved I haven't put up even one photo/painting, whatsoever. My father chose to decorate his house with paintings by me (also large ones) but I've already stared at them for so long I wouldn't want them around. I suspect it would be the same with printouts of the photos I'm taking of my BJDs. But... maybe one, or two would be nice actually (but which to choose? I'm not a good enough photographer yet).

11. In 2006 I had some of my BJD photos made into handbags; here's my favorite, a group shot of the ones I owned in April 2006 (and still own) --

One day I was inline at the post office, and an older man behind me noticed my handbag, and said, "Nice family!" :XD:

12. Aw! That's so cute!!! I love it. :)

13. I hope to startup some nice photo printing on postcard or some mini album for my dolls. its like a memory that they are accompany me on my journey~
I do think this is a good idea:)

14. your bag is lovely~!! and a big family too~!!!

15. I print some of my favorites and keep them in a folder. I like looking at them in hard copy sometimes rather than just on the computer.

16. I've done it for BJD Photo Contests at cons/meets.

I've tried selling one (I sell prints of my art), but the demographic obviously wasn't quite right because it didn't sell. Oh, well. (Haven't tried on-line... just a few places, bringing it along with my other prints.)
