1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you mix and match?

Aug 30, 2010

    1. Hi everyone, I'm a bit of a newbie, and am deciding what my first doll will be (ITS SO HARD)! I've been toying with the possibility of buying a blank head and blank body, and excited to learn the art of the face-up :)

      but...I have a question.

Do you folks ever buy a head from one company, and then a body from a seperate company...on purpose? Like, if you really like the face shape/style of one brand, but you prefer the body shape of another?

Please, tell me all about it!! :)

    2. That happens all the time. Haven't you ever heard of hybrids on here? It's why there are pages and pages of requests to see if one resin matches another, and there is a resin matching database.

    3. I'm a newbie too, so could you tell us how to access the resin matching database? Is it here on DOA or somewhere else on the web? What category here on the Forum would the resin matching discussions be under? Thanks so much! :)

    4. All the time -- it takes a little more research and work than buying a complete doll from a company, but it can be very rewarding as you end up with a very unique doll that can match your own specifications better. The picture request subforum will be your friend -- there are lots of comparison threads out there. You can also compare the measurements of different dolls (most company websites have them posted) to get an idea of proportion and sizing.

    5. Also, the search function is your friend. If you type in "Resin Match" to the general site-wide search, you get PAGES of results.

    6. I haven't done it yet, but, I really hate my iplehouse JID body. I have a pale I from there, and also some Dollmore Eves, and their normal skin looks very similar. So I'm hoping to get a dollmore kid body for my poor I.

    7. oh my god, I feel like such a noob >_< thank you SO MUCH for everyone's help...I'll be sitting on the forums all night exploring this stuff~! thankkk youuuuuu

    8. you know....XD preferably I don't like to mix and match do to the resin differences but....Ive been tempted I wont lie about that!

    9. It can be a bit of a dice-toss, but sometimes you get lucky! I've had a couple of hybrids from different companies that match perfectly! I've also had some so-so and downright mismatching colors... but that's what blushing is for! :)

    10. I'm in the same position! I'm looking to get a dollmore model doll head but I'm unsure of what body would match up with the resin as well being proportionate to the head! So much research to be had!

    11. As you have seen, hybrids are pretty common. ;) Some dolls are far easier than others to hybridize though, so beware! Dolls of unusual sizes (ex: Iplehouse EID), or with a distinctive or variable resin color (ex: Dream of Doll, CP's normal skin) can be a real pain to find matches for, and some companies aren't very well known or popular so it is hard to find resin matches for them too.

On the other hand, some hybrids are quite easy -- for example, IMHO, CP/Soom type white skin and Volks-type normal skin are pretty darn easy to find matches for. Good luck in your research! ^^

    12. I usually don't....for one, it's more expensive in my experience (and I'm a notorious cheapskate), and, IMO, it's hard for me to match colors because I have a little bit of an eye problem. But, if your eyes and your pocketbook agree, I say go for it.

    13. yes..yes..yes...if you find the face you want...[most important in my oppinion] then the body will follow..in 3 years of trying to find my perfect sesshoumaru I finally got him mostly together..souldoll soulzenith white skin chiron head with the soom supergem ws boy body..perfect match in color and fit...iplehouse EID yur cat hands and feet in rose white..slightly pinker then soom or souldoll but can be blushed to match ...elf ears modded perfectly..pretty..pretty..pretty..
its all good but please ask many questions before buying a doll..or part of a doll or you will wayyy over spend .
good luck finding your perfect love

    14. I know it may seen weird, but i go beyond that....if i can  ($$$ is always a problem though...)

My girl Ashley: a Dreaming Lishe on Soom Gem body. And her hands are special for Lishe's (so, not soom's gem hands). Everything is white skin and matches perfectly! ^^

I also have another hybrid - Daniel is a Luts Landy, right now borroing a bobobie body while i get money for his own. XD I've also changed his hands to Senior ones.
The reason i did all that 'mess' is because Luts sell this head with 70cm Super Senior body, which i think it would not work for this characther sweet personality and age.

There's and old pic here so you can understand I'm not so crazy as it may seens so XD (just the body proportion it's not right because it's borrowed)
      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/Kawaii_Cloud/Dolls/Landy013.jpg?t=1283297592

And as you can see, I LOVE Luts hands sculpt. XD

Resin match can or cannot be one big problem (i didn't have any problem with my white skin dolls, but the only normal skin guy almost gave me nightmares XD) and if there's little difference, you can also get to blush the parts so they're nice even coloured.^^

Sorry for the big post, i got carried away  and good luck finding your first doll!

    15. @ kawaiicloud thank you so much for your response, I'm still getting used to all this doll-talk so everyone's opinion is valued!! Your boy is gorgeous!!

    16. All my dolls except my Littlefee are mixed head and bodies,
Its not always the perfect match but its still look good in my opinion and I like them that way ,
The only thing to do is to find threads about good and bad mixing body/head combo so you don't have to worry about this ^^

    17. That's happened with most of my dolls. Like for Tanya, who's a B&G Freya (head) and Luts Delf (body) hybrid--I loved the head sculpt but I wanted her to have bigger hips. :)

    18. Most of my dolls are hybrids! All my SDs actually xD

I love to mis-match but I try my best to get the best one resin and proportion wise =D

    19. I prefer to buy my dolls complete from the company, but my one boy I just couldn't stand aspects of his body when I was looking at the pics online. He's the only doll I've gotten with the express intention of buying his body somewhere else, so he's just a poor floating head right now ^__^ But my other boys, I love both body and head sculpting so I'll be getting them all complete from the company.
