1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you people style your dolls' hair?

Jul 10, 2013

    1. Please let me know if there is a thread named like this one. Um, going back. Do you guys style your doll's wig in any extraordinary styles other than putting ribbons, hairpieces or braiding them? Do you guys like put a bun or an odango pigtails on your doll's hair?:D just making it look creative as much

If I am in the wrong thread, please let me know. I will just have to remove this one

    2. What I have realized is that as much as I would like to style my dolls hair... I'm really bad at it. I have one dread wig I made myself with a wool/mohair yarn that I can do more elaborate things with but with fiber wigs I am hopeless. >__<

    3. The most I've ever done is cut one of my doll's hair, but I'm planning on doing it again with another wig to get a more specific style... I also have a bunch of old junk wigs that I plan on recycling the hair from to make some new wigs with!

    4. I did braid one of my wigs (a Monique Gold Elodie in 6-7" it's the only wig I've owned that's thin enough to make a convincing braid or ponytails) and I trimmed a bob wig once since it was uneven, but that's the extent of my styling :)

    5. I really don't style my dolls' hair too much. I make sure that the wigs are kept in good condition, but I don't do much more than braids and ponytails.

    6. I find it rather difficult to do. Most of the time if I try to style a wig into an updo the direction of the weave makes it hard. As in, obviously the company has made the wig to hang downwards and therefore the wig doesn't appreciate me trying to do things other than that with it. So I give up >_<.

I've seen some gorgeous customisations of wigs on Flickr (and in the Volks books) and I'd just love to be able to do something different with what I have.
The best thing I've been able to achieve is a high bun on a wig that had strong bangs and I just have to make sure I don't photograph and back/side angles lol.

    7. I'm in the process of doing a set of short, capped braids on a skin mohair wig for my incoming LittleFee (He's supposed to be a five year-old kid/chibi version of an adult MMO character who had a fairly unusual braided hairstyle-), but that's about as elaborate as I've ever tried to go.

Something I do have for a few dolls, though, are fairly elaborate, Chinese-style pre-made hair and jewelry pieces. They're sort-of a cheaters way of having a doll with a fancy up-do, I guess, but they do look good. Better than I could have accomplished trying to wrangle a wig into those styles "by hand", anyway.

    8. I don't have a doll yet but I am very interested in this topic. If you style a dolls hair, how obvious is it that they are wearing a wig? I guess I just figured that for the most part you need a different wig for a different style

    9. I once managed to do five tiny braids in a 1/6th's doll's wig butt that was when the wig was long and brand new and it kept slipping (it was unrealistically long) so I cut it and tied it in a braid.

    10. I was able to cut and style a fur wig but have had no luck with synthetic wigs. I can't even get the bangs to do what I want them to do... so I give up and just go with whatever the wig wants to do.

I have to say that curly wigs make me nuts... they get so frizzy and I have yet to figure out how to comb it out to make it look good again. :(

    11. I've tied a few ponytails over the years.

I learned how to braid hair through dolls, too :) Though I haven't tried braiding a real person's hair :sweat

    12. You guys should post pics of your styled dolly hair :)

    13. I'm dying to try all kinds of braids on my doll now that she has the right hair. I adore braids and different styles. My doll is tiny, so it is difficult but I will make it work! ;)

    14. Trying to anyway. But yes, I believe curls make for a really cute or sinister style.;)

    15. Yes, I sometimes make a bun or make braids with Daphne's hair. It looks more realistic and less boring if the dolls won't have the same hairdo all the time actually, but I rarely finde the time to do it.

    16. I wanted to practice cutting hair in layers or add fringes to the doll, but by braiding or styling. I am good at basic braids but complex ones like french, dutch or fishtail braids I wanted to try

    17. The one short wig I have doesn't appear like it would take styling very well. :sweat I want to try styling short wigs but I'll have to wait until I can get my hands on one. With longer wigs, I have pulled them back into a ponytail. Otherwise, I'm content with how they are.

    18. I like to style Ole's hair by putting it into two pony tails that lay on her shoulders and have two strands of hair outside of the pony tails. It looks really pretty because of the big curls on the ends of her hair.

    19. I am a psycho when it comes to wig styling, it's one of my favorite things to do with the dolls. I've styled every type of wig I've owned - fiber, mohair, fur...Some I style temporarily (accessories, braids, updo, ponytails, sewn-in streaks or dreads, beads added) some permanent by dying, cutting or boiling (I will boil anything - I have a wig apparatus I use in the tub to boil wigs XD). I have probably 20 different Kana\jojo wigs I've cut and styled into different looks. I think I'm an addict when it comes to that wig XD

I've only made one fiber wig, but I started making fur wigs over a year ago. I love messing with those. They are messy though...fur goes everywhere D:

    20. I'm really not very good when it comes to styling wigs so I stick to braiding the longer wigs mainly to stop them frizzing and tangling, and cutting the fringes (bangs) because I find they are always far too long and cover half the doll's face. I did try to cut a wig into a new style once, the result has not encouraged me to try again :(
