It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you take your dolls with you when you study abroad?

Jun 29, 2014

    1. Hey everyone! :aheartbea

So I'm studying abroad in Tampere, Finland starting in August and I wondered if anyone else had any stories of studying abroad with their dolls. I just paid for a Souldoll Sweet Ranbi from the market place and I'm trading my old boy for two off topic dolls that actually encouraged me to try how I like smaller dolls. Anyways, my plan is to, of course, take them with me and hopefully take bunches of pictures with them while I'm abroad. It'll be perfect because it'll be my way to show I was actually abroad without having to find someone to take a picture of me while I'm at certain landmarks, and to bring something personal from home that's small enough to not take up too much space in my luggage.

To reiterate the question after my long ramble haha: Do you have any stories of when you brought your dollies with you to study abroad?

    2. I'm currently studying abroad here in...swelteringly hot Beijing :P Almost finished my semester here actually. And yes, I did actually take my dolls with me, well five of my tiny dolls at any rate, they weren't too heavy to take with me.

When it comes to taking them outside and taking photos of them, I have done so with one of them - one of them happens to be a Chinese character, so I once took him to the Forbidden City and Prince Gong's Mansion for some more unusual touristy photos. Not posted them up anywhere yet I'm afraid, I need to finish mixing them up.
As for stories, hrm, he did have people want to pose with him, so he had a few Chinese visitors take pictures with him, with comments on him being cute and appropriately dressed. He's been handled by a few people (with permission) and had his clothes all looked over. Though did have the case of one child trying to snatch him off the windowsill he was sitting on in Prince Gong's Mansion, her mother gave her a bit of a telling off for that one. No one who saw him knew about BJDs though, but it was still fun to do ^^

    3. Sure! I'll definitely take all my dolls from collection with me, if I go aboard. But if it's too difficult because of places and weight, I may leave some at my parents' home temporary and take Ren (my first doll) with me. :) I can't imagine a life aboard without them...At least a doll must be with me :D

    4. I haven't taken any of my dolls abroad with me before, but that's partially due to having relatively short stays and being worried they will be damaged in transit, be too heavy (I travel light), or be stolen. I know my dolls could be broken or stolen at home, too, but somehow the fear is greater if I should take them out if town.

    5. Actually, I started the hobby while studying abroad and I can't thank it enough for giving me so much in return.
I got to know many wonderful friends that became friends whom I trust a lot, I learned language very fast because I get in touch with people who are local and truly enjoyed everyday there. (Of course at first I didn't expecting anything, but just the dolls themselves at least give me handful of things to do)

So that's just my little story and personally highly recommend. At least you won't get lonely. The doll will comfort you and give you something to do over the rainy weekends or when you feel homesick. ^___^ and yup! Try the meet ups!

    6. A couple of years ago I studied abroad in Japan for one year. I made the decision to not take my dolls with me because they're both SD size and seeing as I was going to be gone for a whole year I was very limited for luggage space. I was also scared they might somehow get damaged if I took them with me.

So basically I had to put my BJD hobby on hold for a year... Sometimes I wish I did take at least one along because I missed them dearly while I was gone.:pout: When I did return home and I got my dolls back out of their boxes it was wonderful to see them again!

I think if I had smaller dolls I would have definitely taken one. So many times I felt like giving them a cuddle or playing with them but I couldn't.

    7. Few Years ago when that time I only have Hiro with me, so i bring him along with me to Australia for my future study,
i also met my hometown friends with their dolls too~ And we also met some Aussie friends and we have happy awesome Dollmeet at someone's house~ I did bring Hiro to others sightseeing places and take photos ~

When that time i was Graduate, i was carrying a big luggage and big box back to my hometown,
so i did disjoint Hiro, and put his disjointed body into a high quality container and put it in side my luggage for checkin.
This could save more space for luggage. Hiro's head i put it safety in side my handcarry bag with a small gift box.

Also when that time i bring Hiro back to visit his birthplace - Volks Tenshi No Sato in Kyoto Japan,
i did the same thing too^^
