Do you think the tiny market favors girl dolls too much?

Nov 13, 2012

    1. Ok, so I ordered my first tiny doll(12 cm Tiny Delf) and i noticed while shopping that it's almost impossible to find boy clothes. I've checked several places and the only outfit I have coming in for my boy is Lut's only boy outfit. Am I missing something or are all the clothing out there for girls. Looking everywhere from Junkyspot to Etsy I can't find a thing. It's all frilly dresses, stockings, and shirts with very girly graphics. Do people just not like boy tinies or something? Does this bother you at all?

    2. It does bother me a little. I had a YO-sized tiny earlier this year who wasn't mean to be a child, let alone a girl child. (I had another tiny meant to be a more mature female as well, and all the youthful frilly dresses I found didn't suit her either-- I ended up sewing clothes for her myself.)

I now own a 16cm tiny who's meant to be on the childish side but he is male, so frilly dresses still don't help me much. There are a few things out there, but not enough of a range IMO.

    3. Yes! Two of mine in that size are boys. However, I find clothes for them from Spampy, who's on DoA, but she is behind on orders due to Sandy, and living in NJ. Also on Etsy if you look up Pukifee as they are the same size I think, there is boy clothing. TTYA, Nubanded, and Wcchouse have clothing for boys, if you like what you see. I would just check measurements.

    4. Yeah shopping for tiny boys can be hard (but not impossible!) Clear lan has quite a few nice boy things! :3

    5. I have noticed this too, but both of my tinies are girls.

    6. I think, a bit yes. It makes me angry every time I am looking for Iplehouse EID man clothes and I see "clothes for iplehouse EID" and they all end up being female clothes. Could they at least state its EID female?

    7. I see... I didn't think to search for pukifee since i didn't know their exact size, I'll try that later. I've been looking for stuff for Lati yellow with little luck. I guess i need to unlock the DoA market place and hope to find some stuff there later on... and on that list I'll add learning to hand stitch. XD Plus I'm already wanting to buy a ponpong to make into a boy. Joy oh joy

    8. I never noticed a lack of tiny boy clothes. My sister and I share one Yo-sd boy, and he just wears Ken clothes. Ken clothes are cheap, cute, and boyish so we’ve never even looked at yo boy stuff online.

    9. I do a lot of online shopping for BJD. But I think BJD girls in general is overly popular compare to BJD boys. Which makes me sad because I only have male BJD but at the same time it doesn't really matter because I mostly buy clothes by commissioning someone.

    10. Well yo-sd are bigger than tinies... so it's a bit different. Like my tiny is a mere 12cm which is like 4-5 inches about. Yo-SD are usually 2 or 3 times bigger than that. Plus I live in a smaller city that had 0 doll stores of any kind. Even our toy store and hobby don't carry much for dolls I feel like.

    11. I'd check out TTYA for boy (or boyish) clothing in his size. They have both a website and an etsy that may have more of what you're looking for.

    12. I do tend to feel that the tiny market tends to favour girls more than boys, but I suppose it could be because as the doll gets smaller, sewing skirts and dresses may be an easier option than sewing trousers. Obviously, this tends to apply more to dolls that are smaller than YoSD because there tends to be a good variety of clothes for both genders.

    13. I guess that might make sense... but it's still kind of heart breaking ya know? I mean if anything you think they'd just charge more for boy clothes for the harder work instead of abandoning it all together.

    14. Yo-sd are tinies, just look at the market place ("Larger" "Mini" "Tiny"). You can get Barbie/Ken clothes at a walmart or grocery store.

PS: Tiny Delf are 16cm not 12cm.

    15. I always think with things like this is that if it's important to you, then be the change you want to see. If you want more boy clothes for tiny Tinies (smaller than YoSD/LittleFee/Honey Delf), then instead of being frustrated that other people don't make them, start making your own. The first experiments might not turn out great, but as you gain confidence and experience things will start to fall into place.

Some really great businesses have grown out of spotting a gap in the market and targeting themselves to that gap, and this goes for the whole of the world of business, not just BJDs.

One of the other things about learning to sew your own doll clothes is that you really start to appreciate the people who do it all the time! I don't have a working sewing machine, so I have to hand-sew everything. When I struggled making two rectangular doll pillows, I really appreciated the work TTYA and Wimukt put into their clothes even more than I used to!

    16. I've noticed it a bit, but I guess it doesn't bother me cuz I'm more interested in the girls. I'm sure I'll want a boy someday though, and then I'll be upset about not finding clothes! lol

    17. It's hard to find mature clothes for tinies. XP Even harder for boys. Glad mine are girls.

    18. Yeah, I have boy tinies and finding outfits can be tough, but it's getting better and I'm not really too worried about it. :)

    19. Well I don't really think it's nice to blame the owner for not making their own clothes. I mean I have astigmatism so it's nearly impossible for me to hand stitch cause the needle point is too fine for me to see where it's going and anything I ever tried hand sewing just fell apart. Some people fail where other's excel.

    20. It's REALLY hard! My boy is really chunky and 30cm, so most Yo-SD clothes don't fit him anyway, but even if they did, most of what I seem to find is frilly, lacy dresses, and even a lot of the boy stuff makes them look like Victorian kids or little porcelain dolls. My boy is a rough and tough modern boy. He needs jeans, tshirts, cargo pants, etc. That's REALLY hard to find in his size. Shopping for a girl in his size would be much easier, since dresses are so poofy it doesn't really matter if they have a big butt. lol

I've tried sewing for him, but my hands are too shaky and I have trouble gripping small things, and my machine eats stuff that small. He has a few things someone made for him, that's good for now!
