Do you worry about the size of your doll family? Whether it is balanced? =S

(sorry for the dodge photo ^_^' )

I was just wondering whether other people felt the same way about their doll families? I currently have 5 dolls - my uke - Coronata, my seme - Macarius, 2 MSD twin girls and a yo girl. They work really well together and there is the faintly amusing concept of these 2 guys having to try and look after all these girls when they don't really want to. Macarius brings the very mature and stylish element, the twins are very trendy and hipster, the yo as always brings the kawaii, and my uke Coronata brings the slightly more eccentric side? So he has fashionable boy and girl clothes, sailor school uniforms, 18th-century noblemen suits, kimonos etc. He used to cross-dress a lot more but I am limited in what suits him (he is a bobobie weylin.) Also his new body (souldoll double) is actually kinda manly so I have to always ensure he is covered up.

I've always kind of wanted an SDgirl, and I have worked out what she would look like (big brown tibetan wool hair and loads of freckles <3) and her relationship to the others. Story-wise
she would be a fashion designer and so Coronata would start working with her on designs, and so - like him - she could pretty much wear whatever, including some of the more weird and wonderful souldoll and dollheart outfits.

However I look at my current family and it looks so full :< In a way I think my quirk is that I /don't/ have an SD girl, and it makes my family a little different. But then I look at all the beautiful gowns and dresses with exposed bust areas, and the lovely atelier lingerie *-*
What do you guys reckon? Do you have similar problems? I know that many people have many many many dolls, but then I am so worried about my family balancing, and being able to spend enough time on each one *-* They say less is more, but still :<

    2. I used to try to try to keep all of them matched up: equal boys and girls, but over the years, I have given up on that idea and just buy the ones I love. After all, families come in all sizes and configurations. I don't even care if they are human or not anymore.

    3. I've never had a "balance" gender- or size-wise... The guys have always outnumbered the girls, the larger dolls have always outnumbered the smaller ones. It's not a big deal, really, since I pick my dolls simply based on how much I like the sculpt and how well THAT INDIVIDUAL DOLL matches any others I intend to pose or pair it with.

I guess you could say my collection operates on the micro level rather than following some over-all, macro level "grand plan".

    4. i feel the same way. there are so many dolls i want, but i don't want to have too many of the same personality type, or too many of the same size, etc. but there are dolls i just love, and it would make for a little redundancy...but luckily i don't have a ton of money, so these things will happen slowly anyway, and in the meantime i can work out how they'll all fit together, or not...that's the plan anyway, but yes, it is a concern for me.

    5. I used to worry about that. I think having three makes it very easy to manage.
These dolls are too addictive to ever have one, and with two there is always one doll left sitting. When I had three it was much easier to manage. One with me, two sitting together, I could alternate with ease. ;)
Now it's harder because I have double that. I try to spend time with old and new ones.

    6. Yes for me I have to have equal nos of
      SD, MSD and tiny dolls

    7. I've given up on trying to make them go together in one group and now have several small groups. I find a doll I love that doesn't fit a group and have to start a new group.

    8. This is exactly how I have my collection set up as well! I don't want to place limits on my collection and miss out on a doll that I really love.

    9. Right now I only have 2 BJDs - one MSD and one Yo-SD. They are both Kaye Wiggs' girls so they go well together. I want to add other BJDs to my collection and am not sure yet how I feel about them grouping well or not. For the most part I see each of my individual dolls as a work of art and tend to post them separately so maybe the matching/grouping won't be a big deal. Anyway, I'll have to wait and see how it turns out! :)

    10. At first I thought I needed two of each, one boy and girl, but as soon as I had that, I sold some and traded some, so now I have two boy SDs, one girl and one boy MSD and two girl YoSDs. So much for planning! It seems like I change my mind constantly, and since I don't have a storyline or characters for my dolls, I expect my collection will do the same. :)

    11. I'm very happy with only having two 1/4 dolls and one 1/6th, the rest all seem to end up SD. I'm not really bothered with balance, I did plan my doll "family" out but over the years it's just changed so much I ended up with not having any of the original ones I planned.

    12. The size, yes. Balanced? No. 49 males vs 21 females. Most are SD sized with 7 MSD sized, and the rest are tinies.

    13. I do worry about the size of my doll family. I don't want it to grow to big. I just hope I'm able to control myself. hehe.
Ever since I got my first msd, I started to likehaving different sizes and now I also have a yo-sd in my wishlist. My family are only boys and sometimes I wonder should I have a girl in there for the balance. I'm not so interested in girl dolls though. So I doubt there will be one, the guys will have to look for them outside the family. XD

    14. I'm unsure how I feel about this in terms of my collection. I have 3 minis and 6 bigger dudes and I'm fine with that, just as I'm also fine with them all being males too as some of them are very cliche girly and froo-froo while others are very rough and stereotypical masculine. I would still like a girl for my collection someday however, but I'd be perfectly content with having only 1 and not feeling as though she were out numbered or anything. My biggest concern when it comes to finding the 'balance' in my group boils down to 2 things: actual number and style of clothing. As I have 9 dolls at the moment it's a personal pet peeve of mine to have an odd number of dolls, but adding those from my wishlist would still wind me up with an odd number which is annoying. I also dislike when I feel as though there isn't enough variety in the style in which my dolls are presented. This gets difficult when all my dolls are from the same storyline so their style should not be TOO varied and yet I have to find ways to mix and match that make sense. But it's a challenge I gladly take on ;)

    15. I used to worry about these things... LONG, long ago!!! My first few dolls were all SD-sized and all elves and all from the same company--and boy/girl, boy/girl.

Then... over time... I fell in love with dolls that didn't mix as well. And then I started having separate groups... two here, two there...

And now, I have a big-ass group of dolls, many more than I'd planned! And more sizes than I'd planned. And more styles than I'd planned.

So now, I just don't bother planning... Or at least, I don't worry about it. I still have groups and certain dolls go together and they want friends and lovers and relatives and such, but if a doll comes along that doesn't fit in anywhere, I'll just make a place for them!

It's crazy and disorganized, but it's fun... :D

    16. Well, I'm quite obsessive about numbers, so it's the numerical element that irks me rather than gender. For example, I really hate even numbers. I just do; they're horrible! The only exception is 10 which is solid enough to withstand the nastiness of its being even. My favourite numbers are 3, 7 and especially 13. 13 is an excellent number, followed closely by 21, then 25. I also like prime numbers. This is a problem for me in terms of dolls, because I have to stop at a certain number. Right now, I have 7 dolls which is fine and dandy. But soon I may get doll no. 8, and 8 is a simply disastrous number! So pompous and rotund. So I'll have to buy two dolls in quick succession to bring it up to 9, which is still a nasty number but not so bad.
Initially I thought I would stop at 13 dolls, but as the characters have multiplied in my head I'm finding this number quite limiting. So I may have to go up to 21 dolls. When I eventually stop collecting (or should that be if), it'll have to end on one of my preferred numbers. This makes planning dolls quite difficult.
I do have many, many more male characters than female- I only have a handful of female characters. This presents another imbalance but I'm determined not to think of it!

    17. I did not worry about it so much as I occasionally wanted a girl doll or MSD because I wanted to be able to buy girl clothes and MSD clothes. I got both, and I sold both. Some of my boys now wear girl clothes, so that problem is solved.
Now, I have a 70cm girl (sort of), but most of my dolls are SD or 70cm boys. I have never really thought about balancing them by size or sex and gender.

    18. Well, not really balance in terms of the gender of the dolls but I can't stand having more than 5 dolls, or have only one size going solo. Preferably, I would like as less as 2 or 3 dolls and for a size to be a pair or more. Unfortunately ( or fortunately for my finances :> ), this limits my choice of dolls and I have a rotation of who goes if I have a doll I want badly enough.

I want to travel light and keep what really matters to me. This applies to everything I own, whether it be clothes, dolls, to all the stuff I own.

    19. You aren't the only one who is odd about numbers! I also hate even numbers. I like that 8 looks like infinity but I hate it as a number. I hate 4s the most. 6 is the only even number I'm okay with because it is two 3s, I love 3s. Weird, huh?

That being said I have 19 dolls complete at the moment and three floating heads. These are good numbers until I complete number 20. Then I'll have 20 complete & two floating heads - the numbers will not be great.

But I keep my plans in mind to make the actual number less important. Under my current plans I will have 21 boys and three girls. A total of 24, 2+4 being 6. Not bad. I am sure by the time I get there the planned number will change.

The only balance I seem to care about is that they need to be almost exclusively large dolls. Boys need to heavily outnumber the girls and there is only room for one mini and no tinies. Yep, that's my happy balance.

I guess you could figure in the other dolls in the house that belong to my GF, then everything changes. But they are not my dolls so I don't figure them in my balance.

    20. that's crazy! 3 and 7 are my favorite numbers as well. always have been. they're just perfect numbers somehow yeah? haha. my birth date is 17, and the year 77, and i've always just loved that. but that's not why 7 is one of my favorites. ^^
