1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

DoD "Parting Line" Problem

Jan 3, 2006

    1. Dod Has the following message:

Hello, this is Dream of Doll

We've been working on parting line - get rid of them before shipping, but it takes many time and also many people to do it.
parting line work has been the main reason for delay as it's hard work and couldn't find enough people to work on it.

Therefore we decided to send without parting line removal, and there are a few customers who already received them. This will apply to Korean customers as well.

Please understand that the parting line occurs naturally has nothing to do with the quality of doll.

      Thank you,

      DOD

I think this means that they don't sand down the seams? That's awful! I'm afraid for my friend Allie's Zen girl who could be shipping any day now. And for all future DoD dolls! (Esp my own girl Zen, who I plan to order as soon as I have the money and the parts are in stock!)

      Any thoughts?

    2. does this mean that the docs and dots bodies won't feel smooth or soft anymore?
or just the parting lines like the arms and legs? O.O?

    3. Probably just the seams on the parts, I'm sure the rest of them will be smooth. :)

    4. If they did add it, it'd probably be much more than $20. :sweat Sanding takes an incredible amount of effort, not to mention time.

    5. I doubt it. You could ask to be sure, but the sanding was a free service. Not many other companies even did sanding (at least not without a fee) and DOD is not the most expensive company out there.

    6. Well, as it's been said, everyone loves 4 weeks shipping rather than 8. I'll sand the seams if they come in 4 weeks, no problem. ^_^

    7. I had an idea for the people who are afraid of sanding the seams:How about going to Micheals arts and crafts( or similar store) and buying a few of those white unpainted resin figurines and practice sanding on them? They usually still have their seams and low relief details so you'd have alot to practice with, and if you have MSC you could practice painting on them too!!Look on the bright side, you'll be getting your dolls sooner and you'll be confident enough when they arrive to sand them yourself!Just make sure you get a fine grit sanding sponge!

    8. Why are people so impatient and so damn whiny? This is a 500.00+ purchase. I for one, want my doll sanded. Quality takes time and is worth it. Nobody is going to DIE because they don't get their doll in 4 weeks or less. I am really upset because the whiners have pressured DOD to do away with a valuable service which made their product a superior one. I wanted my doll sanded and I feel that those of you who whined and complained, which is probably much less than majority, have taken that away from me. You have lessened the beauty of MY doll. How dare you!

Everyone who ordered had an idea of the time frame for delivery--how dare you complain when DOD is trying to deliver a product that lives up to their own standards of beauty and perfection.

The squeaky wheel has gotten the oil and has ruined it for the rest of us. I'm not sure I even want the doll anymore.

I can't imagine Volks caving to this kind of idiot "pressure".

You who complained obviously admire asian products--why don't you admire a little asian custom too--patience and humility.

I am so disgusted about this whole thing.

    9. LisaMarie, it isn't confirmed that DoD is doing this due to customers "whining". My theory is because they now have paypal, the shipping date must be sooner, and in order to fill this need, they opted to not sand the seams. I wouldn't shake a finger at anyone just yet.

    10. I just wanted to confirm that it was indeed part of the reason. Looking back over the thread I saw the statement by DoD, and then True.Lies saying "That's what you get for whining to poor DOD" which seemed to spark the rest of the comments of that nature, rather than them responding to any firsthand statement by DoD. Thanks for helping clear that up.

    11. Don't worry, mostly, they just said that they have been really busy and that was nice to see a friendly e-mail (aka no questioning and complaning XD), but that they'd not be able to answer to my e-mails anymore 'cause now they'd have to hurry.
He also said he was sad with having to delay orders.
katsumisoup -> I'm sorry if I'm one of this people ^^ I didn't mean to point a finger to you, I'd e-mail them worried too, it is alright....

So, explaining better what I meant:
Yes, the whinying (wrote right? O.o') has to do with the change by the fact DOD wanted to make their customers more satisfacted and they knew a shorter time would make us happy.
But, as others pointed out, main reason is paypal and it is a thing that most stores do.
Hahahah sorry if I joked laughing and saying that I second that it is what you get for whinying... it was more 'cause I hate when people complain of waiting time than anything else ^^ I didn't mean to be rude.

      Sorry guys ^^'

      Kisses

      Cacau

    12. Thanks hat:D

    13. I seriously doubt that. I've paid via Paypal and waited longer than 30 days for tons of dolls. Hell, i've waited six months! I collect all kinds of dolls. It's called a preorder and I pay in advance all the time with lots of different stores with hard to get doll lines.

I'm sticking with my opinion and that's that. I am majorly PO'd that my doll is going to come to me in what I consider and unfinished state. And yes, I do blame the whiners.

What is the damn hurry anyway? This is not an essential item, it is a luxury item! And I want my luxury item to be, well, a true luxury, not a downgraded version of what I originally ordered.

    14. I would like to take a second to point out how very very easy it is to sand seems yourself. If I can do it (in under an hour on an SD sized doll) anyone can, I swear. DoA is brimming with wonderful step-by-step tutorials and it really is that easy.
And yes, it did help me bond. I also got a greater appreciation for the work that went into the original sculpting of the piece and the ingenuity that went into creating the body. I look forward to doing it again.
Plus, if you look at it from a stand point of time...One hour to spend time sanding and learning how your doll works in exchange for four weeks of wait. One hour for four weeks?
DoD is a remarkable company who never planned on becoming as popular as they now are. If they can solve their backlog issues with this one simple solution, so be it. They still have my full respect and I will buy from them again.

    15. I went and looked at a random DoC's and DoT's page (Tender Zen and Shall) and no where does it say that they come with the seams sanded down. Actually it doesn't mention seams at all. (Only on the Fullset Shall I found that mentioned, not even on the Tan dolls. So I'm guessing the limiteds they will still sand, the dolls you can buy regularly? Probably not.)

Some of you people are being extremely rude and hostile towards DoD and their decision. They didn't have to take paypal, they could have stuck with wiretransfer. I think you people need to turn off your computers and walk away for a day or two because you're not accomplishing anything.

    16. I emailed DOD.

      1. They should not ship half the lot of DOT's sanded and half unsanded--it's breach of contract and very bad business policy. Whether or not it's easy to do has nothing to do with it. It's a broken sales agreement, period. That's the whole frickin' point people.

      2. If it's expensive and time consuming--why not charge for it. I would gladly pay extra for it. For a 500.00+ doll, another 35.00 or 45.00 isn't going to bother me in the least.

I'm going to shut up now. I'm just majorly po'd. At least I can sell Shall if I don't want to deal with the seams. That new Sooah doll is very appealing and I could substitute her just fine. I do love my Ryung.

    17. Don't all tan dolls come with seams because sanding them down would cause variation in the skin tone? I'm not sure, I think the Volks dolls do but I don't know about Tan El or Hound (or any others). I would imagine that if they can they will, it seams (from looking at their page) that all the special/limited dolls are the only ones that state that their parting lines will be removed. The standard dolls it was just a nice gift/freebie. :)

And I agree, my DoC girl felt so nice and smooth. But the seams on my PW doll are tiny and don't bother me that much (I might eventually sand them when I stop being lazy).

    18. Again, tanned dolls don't get sanded. You do it or DOD does it, the result will be the same. You'll have very obvious lines where the seams used to be because the resin doesn't dry down to the same color throughout the layers.

Like Cacau and I have said, if you've seen pictures of the tanned DOTs and look for them, you can see the seams. And if you can't see the seams, maybe they're not as bad as you think they are...

    19. Just FYI -- it has nothing to do with the smoothness or resin quality of the dolls, the fingers will still be separated, etc. -- it's just that there may be some seam lines on the arms and legs (one vertical line on each side) -- ALL my other dolls from different have come with some seamlines, and it's SUPER easy to sand them down.

It's honestly not a big deal, and I'm sure that anyone who's REALLY paranoid about sanding can get a friend to help -- but it's not the whole doll, it's just a couple of lines. You don't have to sand ALL the resin.

I'm glad DOD is doing something to speed up their shipping time, I love their dolls and outfits, but I do think that they're overwhelmed and SOMETHING has to change!!

Wishing them (and their customers) well!
