Does a new faceup make you feel different?

Sep 23, 2007

    1. I've thought a couple of times about maybe re-doing Tesla's faceup but I'm not sure if it would be wierd to see her with a different face. I don't want to change how she looks, I'd just like to refresh her face. So I was wondering how you all feel when your dolls get a new face...

      Thanks for reading ^^

    2. Dante's face-up was added too..and I adore it. I cannot picture him nor want him any other way because I fell more in love with him.

Masumi..I did her face-up myself. I've just had to redo parts of it and add to it because I've had her modded. I love her even more now than I did before the mod.

I think with dolls..if you're not entirely happy..trying something new doesn't hurt. Adding to a current face-up, changing the wig or eyes, really can do wonders as to how you feel about a doll when you feel really uncertain.

Edit ----- hehe two Gloucestershire people XD

    3. Every time I re-do my dolls' faceups, I become even more enamoured with them. But, I only re-do them when I'm getting tired of their current ones, and I guess it falls in line with disliking my old 'art'...

    4. Well, everytime I redid my soo ri's face (now owned by Aernath) he turned out different as I'm not that good. But to me they were just different aspects of his personality. The character himself didn't change that much, he just showed another side of him.

I hope that was a bit useful.

    5. That's just how I feel. For instance, I did my first faceup on Merle about a year ago, and she always looked beautiful to me. Then one day I thought "Ugh, I really did a bad job on her. It's clumpy and choppy." All of a sudden I didn't like what I'd done anymore, so I redid her faceup. Now I am very happy with it. She's still the same girl, it's just that now her eyebrows are even, her eyeshadow is softer and her eyelashes have been trimmed to a reasonable length. ;)

    6. The same thing happens to me, too. There is always a fear that something will change for the worse, but you can always start over, y'know? A new faceup can really renew your love in a mold, since it can highlight different features that may have been not so prominent with your current faceup.

    7. Thankyou all for your replies :D

CalfLove, Ailieru, Silk, Robin and scarlet, thankyou, I'm happy with how she looks but I think there are a few things that could be tweaked and my technique could have been better. I think your right that she will still feel the same to me and I know her a lot better now (she's been with me almost year) so I can bring out her personality more in her faceup. She's such a beautiful mold and I'd really like to make the most of it ^^

CalfLove, That's so cool that your in Glos too! Your on NoB too right, I'm sleepy_girl there too ^^

    8. Hey sleepy_girl! Today I gave my AA Yi Sorren probably his 7th face-up and I don't think I have ever liked one on him THIS much. I want it to last forever!

Sometimes I change my dolls face-ups completely depending on my mood, but lately it's been just to touch everything up.

I always fall more in love with them and proud of their new look that I have done.

    9. Thankyou for your reply sullen-embrace :D That's a really good point that you fall in love with them more each time, I think that will be the case for me. It's like improving them isn't it, after all you spend a lot of time and money on them and they should look their best.

    10. I agree. I've loved my dolls (especially Iris, she's had the most makeovers!) more and more with each faceup I do. I still keep them true to their original "look", but I think I do it a little better each time. Each time I feel like a little more of their personality comes out. ^_^

    11. sometimes yes...sometimes no...

sometimes they look better...and sometimes they look worse...

Sadako always looks lovely in her faceups, but i miss Sakura's old freckles...the new ones don't strike me so well

    12. Yes and No. I have had a doll get new face and love them more .... and I have dolls get new faces and they are just not the same to me at all, and I cannot bond with them, even though the faceup is gorgeous.

    13. If by 'feel different' you mean 'love my doll more,' then yes, I do.
With each new faceup I feel like I can get excited about my dolls again, if that makes any sense.

    14. Oooh yes,really quite different >_<

      it's so hard to give my boy "betteer" faceup cos he just ends up looking NOT like himself that i have to tone it down to his old "purely amateur" makeup again for me to be satisfied ;-;

    15. Well, i really have no experience in this field yet, but i dont really see how changing the faceup would make an omghuge difference. I mean, i know how a faceup can make or break a mold sometimes, and how i'm sure if they're done certain ways they might look bad or something, but you really arent changing the face or the mold, just the accents and colors used.

I think while the faceup might make the doll look different, its a reflection of their personality (even if thye hate it ^.~) and it can always be redone, so its not that bad if it doesnt come out the way you planned. =D

    16. I sold a one of my dolls partly because I couldn't get the faceup right.

Face-up makes the the doll yours. It makes the doll unique. I feel like my doll becomes another doll if I don't get the faceup right.

    17. My poor boy lost his faceup a few weeks back and i have to admit i couldn't even look at him T_T i loved his old face so much. I've sent him off for a new one now, i'm just hoping he'll come out like i expect :sweat Bonding is hard enough already!

    18. I've done my Ichigo's face up about nine times now in the past year I've had him. :sweat
I've actually gotten better by now too.

It DOES change their look a little bit, even if you try hard to do everything exactly the same way again. It just won't be exact. But, chances are it will look good, and sometimes their faces just need a little freshening up. :)
I think if you're just looking to redo the faceup the same, not making any major changes, you'll be fine. :)

Of course, I've never had bonding issues with this boy. I loved him without a faceup at all!

    19. Changing a face-up can definitely make me feel different about a doll. I was ready to sell a couple as their faces were no longer quite what I wanted. All I ended up doing was enhancing them a bit & changed eyes & I fell in love all over. Even just changing a wig can make a big difference. I was questioning if I really loved my tan El & yesterday I changed only his wig & again, big love.

    20. Thankyou everyone for the new replies :D I've decided to go ahead and re-do Tesla's faceup. I don't think it will change the way I feel about her, if anything I think i will love her more. As aernath said she loved her boy without any faceup at all and thats the way I felt about Tesla, I didn't do her faceup until probably 4 or 5 days after she arrived. I also think it will be a good opportunity to give her a good clean!

I also really really enjoy doing faceups so it'll be a bit more practice for me. I'll take more pictures of her too when she's all freshened up and I can bond with her a bit more whilst I'm painting her.

Thankyou again for all the replies, it's great to get other peoples views to help decide whether to go ahead with something or not :D
