Does anyone collect STRICTLY anthro dolls?

Aug 2, 2013

    1. The other day, I was considering going to a BJD convention in Atlanta later in the year, but one thing makes me hesitant: all three of my dolls, and the two I have on the way, are anthro. I might end up feeling like an outcast there for this reason.

I feel like I'm alone, or in a very small minority, when I say that I only collect anthro dolls. Now, I used to have human dolls, and I still love looking at and discussing them, but any that have been owned by me haven't stayed very long. I just don't connect with them as well.

So I'm wondering, is there anyone else out there like me?

    2. Well, I personally don't own an anthro, but they are so cute and beautiful. If they make you happy, they can't make you an outcast. One of my friends goes to a convention in Atlanta (don't know if it's the same one) and says that it's an absolutely wonder experience. I think that they won't judge you for the dolls you like :) After all, this is niche hobby and I feel that we're all in it together. Everyone has different aesthetics they like, but the core concept is the same: We all like super duper cool dolls.

So, I know that didn't answer the question you asked, but I just wanted to say that if your dolls are the ones that make you happy, then don't let anyone make you feel like an outcast over them.

If the doll in your avatar is yours, I doubt they'll do that anyway. It's super pretty!

    3. He is mine, thanks!

And thanks for the awesome reply. Sometimes I forget how BJD owners are few and far between, so we're all pretty unique, including the unique among the unique. ;)

    4. Don't worry about it -- there are so many different bjds out there, and one type is no better than another. It's about what makes you, the owner, happy. If you prefer anthros, that's entirely ok, and I'm sure you'll end up meeting other people who like anthros too even if they don't limit their collection to anthros only.

I have almost all human dolls, but I have my first anthro on layway. I don't think it's at all odd to stick to one thing.

    5. I enjoy non-anthro bjds, but I do prefer antros. The very first bjd I fell in love with was a fox, and I was certain that was going to be my first doll. I doubt that the elf/fairy I ended up ordering is considered an antro, but I can't see myself ever owning a purely human doll. I think in some way I feel that they're less special if they're human... I dunno. I love me some antros, and hope to actually get my fox girl at some point.

    6. I adore anthro dolls also! My first doll will be a human because she is my OC in a story line with my husband. But the next two dolls that I want (at the moment) are twin anthro cats. Im going to have a super hard time finding them though >.< I need them to be at least 65cm, and have the cat type legs, and be black. So I might have a long wait there!

I don't think there is anything wrong at all with owning nothing but anthros :)

    7. I have both anthro dolls and human dolls and enjoy them both. If I went to a convention I'd want to see as many different dolls (anthro & human) alike! That would be the reason for me to to go -a chance to see in person, some really amazing dolls of all varieties.

    8. I don't own only anthros... but I'm sure there are others out there!

I DO have quite a few anthros. Lots of people include many of the Soom MDs in the anthro category since they have animal aspects--horns, hooves, paws, etc. I have some of those and also animal-headed dolls and other variations of animal and human.

I think most bjd owners are cool with just about any kind of bjd, including some extreme mods. If someone isn't tolerant, they are very much in the minority. Being able to make your doll perfect for you is such a BIG part of having a bjd. Most people understand that. So I wouldn't worry if I were you! I've never had problems with my anthro dolls at any kind of meetup.

    9. I've tried out some anthros, but I find I like seeing other folks' anthro dolls more than I like having them. I don't think it is odd, and while there may have been a time when they were more popular, I think a lot of people still love them.

    10. I've been thinking about this myself as almost all of my current dolls are anthros and I've bee trying to decide who to take to SMASH! Sydney next weekend. I've decided just to go with it and go all out in kitty themed cosplay....it's just part of who I am and what I love so I'm just going to own it rather than fight it, I've decided =^-^=

    11. I don't own, and don't have plans to own, any anthro dolls. But I still love to look at them at doll meets and cons. I wouldn't think it weird at all if someone collected them exclusively. It might be true that you are a minority, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, and you shouldn't be too worried about what others think--you're already deviating from the norm by being in this hobby at all. Just have fun. :)

    12. I don't just get anthro dolls but I have one. A DollMore Catish Doll White Reaa, and I love Sasha to death! I hope I can see more anthro dolls in person someday, and I hope to get some more anthro dolls too. :3

    13. For the most part ;) I did buy two non-anthro dolls, but I just couldn't bond with them, and they weren't exactly human because they were blue and lilac skin tone lol. Everything else has hooves or deer ears. I have a Soom Amber hybrid, a soom adamelli hybrid, a doll leaves Sisley, and a werewolf Farkas by Loongsoul on layaway. To be honest I never really thought about it, but I guess I just really find dolls with animalistic or fantasy features more....adorable.

I think the important thing is to have what makes you happy, regardless of what others might think.

    14. I absolutely agree with this. everyone has their tastes, no matter what type collections of doll ^ ^

    15. Hey~! So far yep! Its all I have. I do want one female MSD in the future, but the majority of my collection will be anthros only. I can see only having one MSD period and maybe one day in the future years later a latidoll and that being it for human bjds.

    16. I at this point only own anthro or human/anthro hybrid dolls. Anthros are what I am drawn to and although I look at human dolls all the time and think they are beautiful I would rather put my money into an anthro doll I know I will love.

    17. Since posting this thread, I now own one human, a MNF Celine, but she is a special exception. :)

    18. The human dolls are gorgeous but I just love the 'exoticness' of the anthro hybrids. So being that these dolls are already fairly expensive I'd rather go for the ones I find the most pretty, therefore I will probably only collect the hybrids.

    19. I personally don't have any, though I would like some, but I used to go on a forum and I used to look at the newbie forum a lot, to try to help people out, and one of the people I came across only collected Anthro. She just didn't care for the other dolls too much herself, and so she just got Anthro lol they were all adorable

    20. I love anthros! Especially Zuzu Delfs ;) My Zuzu's tie in a story really well with my elves, so I really like seeing them together :) :)
