Doll Maintenence That You Love

Jul 21, 2013

    1. I saw a thread about doll maintenance that is hated, but what about those things that you like to do? Surely there must be something enjoyable that we all find in caring for these dolls, or we wouldn't own them! I don't know if "love" is the right word for it, but as annoying as it is to constantly brush my Angelo's wig, I do find it relaxing and I feel like it improves the bond I have with my doll. I also find that cleaning them sometimes has the same effect. ^^

    2. I agree with you that cleaning them can be nice. I do bond with her as I give her the magic eraser sponge bath treatment.

    3. I actually enjoy restringing. I know it's a dreaded task to some people, but I like the feeling of satisfaction I get when I'm done and my doll stands and poses well. Actually, there's no doll maintenance task that I hate. I really enjoy all of it. :)

    4. I did my first restringing very recently, and while it was hard, I actually look back and found it increased my bond with that particular doll. I love how that happened, and I think that that counts! And yes, magic erasers are very excellent~

    5. For the most part, I enjoy restringing, too; I generally do it in conjunction with a body blushing or other update, which makes everything look like new when I'm done. It's always such a fantastic transition!

    6. I like dressing them up, does that count as maintenance? >.>

    7. I love restringing and sueding my dolls. I have a big bag of pliver and I love to share it with my friends... totally need to have another sueding party soon.

    8. I love giving my dolls baths as well as giving them new face-ups if their old ones get scratched or chipped... Course I just like doing face-ups and body blushing in general! :)

    9. I definitely think that dressing them up counts as maintenance, because I hated naked dollies! I love to do that too. Even if I just undress and redress them in the same outfit, it's still really, really nice. I have never tried sueding, but I'd love to have a doll that posed nicely (mine already do okay, but I hear that sueding makes a huge difference!). I also hope to one day perform my own face-ups and love that too. That sort of counts. (I think I just love everything about these dolls, I guess.)

    10. I love touching up a ruined or chipped faceup. It makes the doll go from flawed to pretty-looking again, and it's so satisfying to repair something like that.

    11. Cleaning and pressing (when possible) their clothes. XD I did that for my yo-sizes once and it was surprisingly fun. :) I also like dusting the dolls and fixing their wigs.

    12. I enjoy whipping them down witha a soft dry cloth or slightly damp one, so that they don't have dust on them.

    13. Definitely magic eraser sponge bath is one of my favorite things in the earth to do in general, not only related to my dolls, 'cause I don't know a thing that can make me relax more than it. You just sit there with your doll and let your mind go free while cleaning him/her. It's magical, specially with my oldest ones because the yellowing vanishes considerably and they may shine again! I also like trying face-ups (I'm still learning) and just undress and dress them make me have a really good time. However I really don't like restringing and haven't tried sueding yet... but I know I'll have too really soon. Maybe I like that too!

    14. Gluing eyelashes in place! I have absolutely no idea why I enjoy it so much, but it always makes me happy to sit down at a table with a head, my stash of eyelashes, and the tacky glue. I guess it's because, to me, lashes really make faces look alive--but still, it's the process I really love, even more than the result.

    15. I like most doll maintenance actually (apart from removing faceups! but that might be due to inadequate supplies). I like doing faceups, I love to see my characters move into their shells. I like changing my dolls' clothes, brushing their wigs ... cleaning them is a kind of "neutral" task, they don't have much of a chance to get dusty since I've only got four dolls so far and I play with them a lot, and washing is a bit of a bother with two very curious cats in the house. I also like modding, but that's a different topic, right?
I'll second eyelashes too, because they're the last thing to comlpete a faceup. So far all my dolls' eyelashes have been very cooperative, sticking only to the places I want them to and leaving my tools and fingers alone

    16. I like cleaning my dolls! A magic eraser bath can work wonders on a doll with smudges. I also like washing & conditioning my synthetic wigs. Even restringing can be nice from time to time.

    17. I don't know if it qualifies as maintenance, but put me alone with some floating heads, my wig stash and my eye stash, and I'm happy for HOURS...

    18. I like brushing their hair and giving them face-ups :) Other maintenance can be fun or agitating depending on my mood ^^;

    19. I loove giving my dollies new face-ups! It feels great to give them a whole new emotion and soul, to build up the character just with some paint and gloss. I avoided to do face-ups myself for a long time because I was afraid I would ruin the doll in some way, but when my first doll's face-up started to chip off, I had no choice. When I started to paint, I loved it immediately.

    20. There isn't any I like doing  I don't mind retouching tattoos or scars but I have to be in the mood.
