Oct 1, 2013

    1. 2. My dolls do, in fact, all have personalities and stories. Most of my dolls are avatars of my original characters and therefore they all have very detailed personalities. I don't role play with them, as such, but I photograph them a lot and I write stories that involve the characters. I don't think we're really supposed to get into the detail of specific characters in General Discussion, but if you want to "meet" my crew, you can click on the link (The Mind's Eye) in my signature to read some of their stories and see some photos.

    3. I can't list them all here, since I have 29 dolls with full stories and personalities! I do role play my characters, mostly on facebook and IM.

As an example, I'll use my newest addition: Justin, who is my IslandDoll Louis.

His name is Justin Jesse harrison, he's 15 and he's a pop solo artist. He's been in the spotlight now for two years, and is so busy with work and surrounded by people who either push him to his limits or take advantage of him, that he doesn't really get to enjoy being a teen. However, on his current tour, his opening act is a very down-to-earth boyband, just slightly younger than him, who are pulling him out of his shell and teaching him to have fun and make real friends. His back-up dancer is also becoming important in the story, as Nikki is one of the few people who actually cares about him as a person, not as just a star.

    4. Two of my dolls do :) , though I feel like I need to work on them a bit more. When I decide on buying a new doll, I already have decided on his/her story and personality, since I already have those figured out and written down in my character notes for my story, and only need to find the perfect doll for that character. :) Though sometimes i do just find a random doll while looking for a character in mind, and start to think about a new story for that doll. But no matter how the doll ended up with me, I know he/she will fit perfectly in with all the others in my story. ^.^

    5. I have one friend that I roleplay with who both of our dolls are elves and we both have fantasy worlds that we let overlap.

I have 3 different "worlds" that dolls live in. Post apocalyptic, Fantasy, and a modern setting.

All of my dolls have personalities and back stories figured out. They have quirks and flaws and talents etc.

I also have a lot of random characters that I create on a whim and decide "wow I think they'd be a cool doll..."

    6. While waiting for him/her to arrive, I start to think of their personality. It's the basis of what clothes I will make for him/her. Even while I make their clothes or dressing them up, I talk to them like avid gardeners talking to their plants as they water or prune.
My first doll however was different. I got him directly from a vendor at a con so I had no time to figure out anything about him. His personality developed over time with me and he is the one I'm very attached to.
I don't really role play with them. In terms of stories, at most I imagine or daydream things they would be doing in certain circumstances, "what if" scenarios or "trouble" they get into. :)

    7. My first doll doesn't have much of a personality 'cause she's an android :) Or a cyborg (like Cybermen from Doctor Who). Haven't quite decided yet. I have a back story idea but I haven't worked on it or exactly 100% pinned it to her. What I DO know is she's quiet, doesn't complain and likes hearts (mostly interested on a symbolical level, I think). When I bought her I really wanted her to be a witch because I LOVE WITCHES. That didn't happen.

My 2nd doll I bought with nothing in mind. I was interested in her because she's a minifee and she's horribly cute and everybody has one and I wanted something easier to find clothes for and photograph. Looks like she's ending up with a mori girl-ish style, maybe with some bohemian and/or gypsy mixed in at some point. She may or may not like bunnies and the moon and stars but I don't know, it's all up in the air. Of course I'd LOVE for her to be a witch and I might give her some sort of mental issues like D.I.D. or schizophrenia. Yeah, I'm mean :(

I'm really REALLY interested in role playing but I'm just so horrible at it. I'm a good writer, why can't I be a good role player?! :(

    8. Oh good lord xD yes... but it's a terribly long story and we have a multitude of dolls each of which is fully developed -it doesn't help that everything is being roleplayed on a regular basis either. Naturally it is very hard to explain all of this so I'll give you a very brief rundown of what's going on in the story.

At the beginning of time the Original God that would be later known as Selvans the Green came into realization of his existence and later shaped the world. First he created the trees, immortal, in his image, then he created all the rest. As it was natural all of these creatures didn't all agree with each other and so Selvans allowed them to go their separate ways if so they desired. In doing so the Original World was separated into five, Gaia the world of man, the Nether, the kingdom of Caelum, Elysium and what remained of the once big world was named Terra Orbis, more commonly referred to as the Green Ring.

Fast forward several thousands of years in the future, modern day, the world has seen two great holy wars in which the Nether and Caelum descended upon Gaia to wage war with each other and thus an Organization was created by human men to regulate their own grounds, keep the two sides at peace as well as deal with both the refugees from both worlds as well as the lesser threats that came from them. Most people live blissfully unaware of the existence of this underworld but it suits everyone just fine as it is. The Organization is split into several branches that span the world and overview each area, with no definitive leader of the entire system. Each branch has its own overseer who is responsible for their own branch and are allowed to run and regulate it as they please as long as they're getting the job done. In addition the overseers of each branch are expected to unite and work together in cases of global turmoil.

The current leader of the Asian branch is typically known just as 'the Boss'. His real name is Rayleigh Caelan Bennett and he hails from Ireland, the home country which he fled following a string of certain events about twenty three years in the past. He is best known for having a mild sadistic streak and being endearingly irresponsible towards his subjects, appointing them the hardest missions he can come up with while at the same time giving them minimal details about them. Of course, he's also known for getting the job done at all costs -even if it costs him in his hunters' numbers in the long run... but he's efficient, no doubt. Plus, his way of handling things is not without its benefits as he has the greatest number of Kings serving in his branch than any other in the world.

King is a hunter rank appointed to the strongest hunter in a certain area when their influence and actual strength surpasses a certain level. It is possible for a hunter to have attained the rank of King while working under another King in that specific area. Those hunters are instead called Subs, and if they challenge and defeat their King can in turn also take on their title, otherwise they are just as eligible to move into a different area to claim as their own. Cadence Landolt, or just "C" is the first hunter to be introduced in the story, followed by Patrick who joins the Organization to make money, battle medic Nicolai, femme fatale Pavlova, genius Tsukishima Shintaro who fights for honor and pride, as well as the summoner Jin whose goal is to strike a deal with the Overlord himself. They have their own share of turmoil among themselves, fighting for turf on occasion and at least in one case going as far as to challenge promotion but in general they will band together to fight off larger threats in co-op missions as well as poachers that are after endangered species of demons.

Demons, of course, is a rather broad term. It generally denotes not only the inhabitants of the Nether (that are typically the only "legitimate" demons) but most of the supernatural fauna and flora of Gaia, including faerie (native to Gaia) and creatures of angelic origin. Most of the demons that do cause trouble on a regular basis are just low level ones, usually pretty dumb, the same as most Gaian animals and thus must be herded by the hunters, either slain when it is required or preserved at all costs if its a rare species. The actual, higher class demons, are far more busy dealing with their own issues.

The Nether is a wild place, but out of all worlds it's the most welcoming one. Its passageways are easy to open and nothing prohibits other creatures from coming into their own sphere of existence except, perhaps, for their own cowardice. The Nether's capital city, Menorah, is a busy hub of activity all year round, gathering peddlers and merchants of all five worlds that are seeking to trade their treasures and goods and partake in the multiverse's most robust center of commerce. Menorah's eight major districts are each taken care of by the Masters -the four strongest holding the title of Cardinal King-, while the royal district is under the jurisdiction of none but the Overlord himself. The Overlord is a position that is not exactly passed on by any means, usually one has to challenge the Overlord and win, otherwise the Overlord may appoint the next one in line as they wish, regardless of their relation to himself. The current Overlord is Devil who has so far had four sons with his beloved wife. Out of his children, the first and second son have human contractors, each for different reasons. Shaitan, the eldest, entered a contract with a child so he could remain alive when he was assaulted, and Mephistopheles became the hunter Nicolai's contracted partner to help him achieve his goal of creating a panacea and elixir of eternal youth. The youngest brothers, Lucifer and Bellial, have deserted the Nether for their own reasons; the first due to his hatred for his own kin, the later in search of his brother.

At the same time the Caelum is going through its own share of issues as they're having trouble, not only with the highest family of angels dispersing to meet their own ends each, but also with one part of their family missing. With the Seraph Metatron gone the one in charge is the eldest brother, Ophan the watcher, who proves to be powerless to keeping everyone together once they decide to leave the Caelum.

Lost and confused, having no recollection of his memory, Metatron is found by devious scientist and professor Kirijou Isao who is not only part of the Organization's research and development department but also the man behind the Midland Facility Center where a project centered around human augmentation with powers of demonic origin is on constant development (which is really nothing but a part of his plan to see how far he can tamper with "normality" before the universe starts rejecting his advances). He seizes the opportunity realizing what he has in his hands and takes the angel under his wing, giving him the name Alex after his old friend Alexandreyi, the only one he considers to have ever had. Furthermore, Kirijou Isao is but a handle and not his real name, that being Damon Wells a name he left behind when he fled his home country around the same time as Rayleigh who also happens to be his childhood friend.

Unbeknownst to Damon, his tampering with normality does have an actual effect on the world, but in a place he is not very familiar with nor can easily see, that being the Green Ring which has been plagued by a thick white fog in recent times. The fog appears without any warning, consuming entire areas and never withdraws from where it spreads making entire regions vanish under its veil. Nothing ever comes out from the areas shrouded in the Mist and nothing that ever went in returned to tell the tale of what it has seen. Rumor has it that it's because "Selvans is dying" something the original God is rather concerned with as he cannot feel any significant change happening in himself. For that reason he gifts his good friend, the Dragon Lord Visvaldis, the ability to alter events or predict them by writing them down on paper and sends him with his servant, tiger shapeshifter Riveyner, in a quest to the heart of the world, so that he may rewrite whatever is wrong and return balance to the land. To aid him he sends him other trusted souls of his such as the pathfinder Ealdred, last of the deer folk of the frozen north and his kindred soul, Mayu, a girl that was invited to the Green Ring from Gaia, vampire noble Lavinia and Visvaldis' old friend and her followers as well as an entire assortment of all sorts of fantastical characters.

As for Elysium... its immortal inhabitants struggle with their own racial issues, the fae half of the population wanting to launch a purge on the nefarian half, playing a corrupted game of power and deception all along that forces the princes Nowe and Eien to abandon their homeworld and lay low in Gaia for a small while. During their stay they come to learn of the human family they end up in care of and the strange demon children they are guardians of. Yuliya, who wishes to become immortal so that she may help the Elysians become mortal in turn, asks Nowe to turn her and upon that is split from her demonic half who takes on the identity of Eulia from then on. Upon their eventual return to Elysium, Eien and Nowe are branded as traitors and are eventually saved by the Rebellion and later attempt to reclaim the throne.

      Of course there's a lot more to it, and a lot more characters playing into the story detailed little or even not at all above. There are small pockets of storylines and threads scattered about, tying lose ends or providing explanations and drives and tie-ins for things. And of course an entire cast of characters that tie in the story after a two-year time-skip and some even later than that... and so on, so forth. I could go on but I'll stop here as this is muuuuuch of a wall of text already! Kudos if you managed to read through all of it! xP;

    9. Each of my dolls are unique in name, personality and clothing style, but that's pretty much it. None of them are OCs or have background stories, either. At the most, my Doll Chateau Bella may be an alien disguised as a human girl, but that's as deep as it gets. I also like it to be obvious that my elves are elves, if that makes sense. But otherwise, they all dwell together in one universe (the dresser) in a Toy Story kind of way.

    10. My dolls all have multiple names, surnames, personality traits, favorite colors etc. My msd is the only one without a backstory. She is just a pretty shelf sitter. All the other dolls do have backstories, are linked to eachother and really have a character of their own. I have tried creating their characters before they arrived, but in the end, the dolls themselves end up revealing who they are, rather than complying to the story I thought out for them. I don't consider them sentient beings, but I rewrite the story until I feel it fits the doll. It feels as though the doll reveals itself to me. If that makes sense. :sweat
I do not roleplay or write stories about the dolls. The characters are based on the doll, the doll is no shell for a character (for me). There is a overlap with the collection of my friend. She mostly has shelf sitters, but one of them is a twin sister of my doll. So she does have backstory.

    11. my dolls are quite simple creatures - Before I get them I think of names and a brief story about their character and who they are, so I know how I want to dress them and style them, but nothing very deep or detailed.

    12. (I tried to upload a photo, but it didn't go through. Sorry!)
Haha, I'm so happy to find this thread because I figured out my doll's personality just today. I have one doll so far, a boy named Artemis Kingsleigh who is a modded Migidoll Fairy Jina. I just recently figured out what his last name was going to be, and I was so glad when I did, because up until that point, I had no idea what his character was like. So, his name is kind of like a play on the name Alice Kingsleigh from Alice in Wonderland. (Alice and Wonderland again? Not very original, I know.) Artemis is an AU Alice with a twist. I don't think I'd ever roleplay with him (maybe?), but I'm definitely looking forward to writing short stories about his adventures. Here's what I know about him so far:

Ever since Artemis was born, he was trapped in Wonderland. It was a dark and dangerous place and orphaned Artemis struggled to survive. Sometimes the Red Queen would capture and imprison him, and he would eventually escape to wander alone. Other times he would visit the Hatter and March Hare or the Cheshire Cat. Although they were friendly, they were completely mad and not to be trusted. Much to his horror, the madness was starting to get to Artemis too. So one day, he found a way to escape Wonderland.

When he woke up in the real world, Artemis found himself just as alone as before. Sometimes, the humans he encountered seemed to be as mad as the creatures in Wonderland. However, occasionally he would encounter kindness and love that made the world a little less strange.

Now Artemis is adopted. He has a home and a family who love him, and he is finally happy. Every once in a while though, he'll get a far away look in his eyes. No matter how far he's come, madness still lurks beneath the surface, and Artemis often has a hard time separating his imagination from reality. Wonderland has not forgotten him, and at night while he dreams, it reaches out to drag him back.

@Soenatte I'm blown away! How long did it take you come up with all of that? You're like Tolkien, it's amazing.

    13. Wow thank everyone for the lovely responses I'm glad that you like this topic

    14. Yep. Much like Soanette, I have my own little world about which I write stories. It's basically Earth, but with more magic. Faeries colonized several planets thousands of years ago, and on Earth, that gave rise to elves and sprites and pixies, etc. as well as other fantastical beings that evolved due to the influence of magic (dwarves, gnomes, harpies, the works). The faeries disappeared into the Astral Realm about 4000 years before the main story. Elves were the mostly dominant species until humans invented their own kind of "magic"--technology. So now the world's rather uneven, with some technological countries, some magical countries, and quite a few in the middle. Most of the dolls I want live in that universe, which is a collaborative fiction type thing that I'm working on with several friends. There's a lot more, in a lot more detail, in the story tumblr link in my sig.
I don't really roleplay with these characters, but a few of them originated as AUs of AUs of my roleplay characters. A character I roleplay but didn't make up ended up twisting into Cordiel. Somehow. :P

    15. Well, in my dolly world, this is the basically how things go:

All of my dolls, are modokis (Japanese for copies) of another being from another dimension (Fictious characters, canon or original.). Even the modokis still retain their own powers, backgrounds, etc. Like if I have a character from Rozen Maiden, then they will still be the same character, except they are copies.

Most of my dolls, are involved in a crossover doujin game I am creating, called Traumkrieger, which I am planning it to be a magical knight (Attempting to make a new sub genre for magical girl, it is less cutsey, and leans towards elegance, and is more gender equal.) series.

In Traumkrieger, the story starts with Satan, who has risen after his defeat by archangel Michael and a powerful unknown being who has the power of both diabolic and holy, declares a war with God again after the end of the world, which the winning side will claim heaven. God, not wanting heaven to become hell, starts calling upon beings from the real world (The world we live in today), and wonderland, another dimension which can be accessed through the mirror. These chosen ones, are called Traumkriegers, German for dream warriors. Most of the chosen ones are often young people, young as 14 to late 20s. The chosen ones from both wonderland and the real world, must find suitable partners to share their energy for their souls, and form permanent contracts to share strength and swear to be the protector of the worlds in order to become a real Traumkrieger.

This is the reason why I have Charles and Hizuru together is because, Charles already made a contract with Hizuru to fight together from the dark forces, though they chose to be more like siblings.

    16. I didn't plan anything like personality or a storyline for my doll, I waited until she showed me her personality and then, because I'm no writer, I eventually came up with a little story that she's a triplet, lived in Kyoto (but isn't there currently), and doesn't speak English...yeah, that could probably use some expanding someday ^^;

    17. Posts that are only about the "character" aspects of the hobby (roleplay, fanfiction, fanart) are considered off-topic. It is fascinating to use the dolls as avatars for our own characters, but this particular forum is for the physical dolls themselves rather than their characters and personalities.
