Doll Stands

Nov 8, 2012

    1. I'm not sure this is the right place to put it. I tried searching for existing ones with no luck.

I'm wanting to get stands for my dolls as I want to display them standing but don't trust them to stay standing on their own over a period of time, the idea of them falling over and chipping something freaks me out.

I'm wanting stands for my 26cm yoSD girls but I'm unsure what to go with that will be the most stable and can support the weight of yoSDs.

I've seen the U stands and the typical C stands. Also I've seen the thick plastic base stands with thick adjustable metal U or C stand parts. Then there are the classic Kaiser metal C doll stands.

To those that use stands for your BJDs which do you recommend? Kaiser ones are cheaper but can they support the heavy resin dolls? Are the U stands better than the C stands or vice versa?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

    2. I have a doll stand from the Eluts site and I love it. It's a C-stand and it's very stable. I used it during a doll convention and didn't have to worry about my doll toppling over if someone accidently bumped into my table.

Since I haven't had any experience with another type of stand, I can't really give you any more advise, sorry.

    3. Thank you, Silk. that is definitely helpful :) I might wait and hear what others have to say before I make a decision though. :)

    4. I happen to be looking for doll stands too! I came across the Kaiser C-stands with wood base and was just wondering the same - if it will be stable enough.

    5. I bought a whole bunch of those metal Kaiser C-stands a while ago so I can tell you a bit about them. :)
I chose them mostly because I wanted them to be uniform and Kaiser got stands for all the sizes I own (from 17cm to 72cm). I measured my doll's waist height and width and chose the recommended stands, they all fit really well.

Those stands are really stable in my opinion. Haven't tested any others yet, but none of my dolls have toppled over so far, even my 72cm one just lightly jiggles when my knee hits the desk (even really hard). My YoSDs don't even budge that much.

I think one downside can be that the metal doesn't bend really well, I wasn't able to make the top part any smaller or change the C-shape. And not all of my dolls are "grabbed" tightly everywhere, my Soom YoSDs are only clasped on their sides but not at the front. This could change with clothing though, mine are currently nekkid...

The only thing I really dislike is that there is no rubber coating or anything on the metal so you have to be careful not to scratch the resin when you move them around in the stands and stuff.
Though putting the dolls on the stands was not a problem. You don't have to shove them in, since you can just pull out the top part of the stand and got a really wide C that claspes tighter when you put it back on the holder of the base.

Hope that helps a bit but I'm also curious about other reviews! :)

    6. I've used the Kaiser-type metal stands for larger dolls. I like my stands to be as unobtrusive as possible, so the wire-grip around the waist and the flat metal stands work for me. They are also easy to take apart and carry around to meetups.

If I were going to use them only for displaying dolls, I might get something a little more secure and strong... a wood or heavy-metal base and those screw-tightening type of adjustable parts, like a Volks stand. But they are expensive. And I have big dolls (so, more to hold up for a long period of time).

For Tiny-sized dolls... I'd try an inexpensive metal stand just to see how it goes. It should be fine. It really depends on the type of Tiny you have, since they come in all shapes and sizes. I would think the Kaiser-type stands would work OK...

I actually don't have stands for my tiny dolls... at the moment I don't display them. But I think I'd go with the Kaiser type. I've got some Barbie/Obitsu/Cygirl dolls and the kinds of stands made for those usually are kind of useless! (too flimsy plastic, bad height and bad grip)

I hope some others reply to this, since I'm curious, too. But there actually aren't THAT many options available, surprisingly... But I already know I don't care for the saddle or U style grips... they work under dresses, but I just don't like how they look... and they don't look that stable to me.

    7. Do you have any recommendations on where to purchase these stands from?
I am looking for ones that can hold Volks SD13 & SD16 securely.

    8. rlay1 I found them on eBay, just search for doll stands

    9. I can weigh in on the U-shaped, or saddle stands!

One of these saddle/between the legs stands came with my Jie Doll Michel....I really hate it. It's not sturdy at all. It's well made, I suppose, but nothing holds him on it, it's just a balancing act. The slightest bump can send him falling backwards. He's SD, so it might be better on smaller dolls, but I've had the same issue with Barbie stands made that way. And....they REALLY don't work well for boys. >.> Sorry if this is too detailed, but the man bits have to be positioned to one side of the stand, which just makes him unbalanced and wobbly. It MIGHT be better on a girl, under a dress. But for a boy wearing pants, it's awful. I think he could stand on his own better than with that thing. lol

I've only used the waist stands on OT dolls, but they grip much better. Just be sure to get a heavy/sturdy bottom so the doll isn't top heavy. :)

    10. Kaiser stands will hold big dolls if you have the right size. You can sometimes get them with rubber-covered grips so they don't scratch the doll. The heavy-based stands are very secure and you can usually disassemble them to carry them somewhere. Volks has very nice, expensive ones with big wooden bases, and CoolCat on eBay has some with clear acrylic bases. I like both C-style and U-style, depending on what the doll's wearing. You can hide the U-style under a dress, but it looks terrible over pants. :)

    11. My dolls are lazy, they sit.

    12. I second the Kaiser stands, since I have used them for all my dolls, ranging from 11 to 62 cm and never once has one of them toppled over. They range in size frome itsy-bitsy to huge, just make sure you get one where the metal slips into the holder-bit far enough. Having said that, there is some leeway, since I have one size that I can actually use for both my YO's and my MSD's. I always use them over clothes though, to make sure they don't scratch the resin.

As far as displaying goes, I also use in-scale furniture for them to sit on or lean against. Think benches, sofas, bed etc. Even a bicycle!

i do agree that you can easily hide saddle stands under a dress, they also makes the skirt hang a bit more naturally. Angell-Studio sells some really nice ones, but I haven't tried them. If anyone else has, I'm curious!

    13. I have a few Kaiser stands but the back part doesn't seem long enough even though they're for that size doll... (MSD) I keep thinking he's going to fall over so I just have him sitting down for the time being.

I have one on my Littlefee and it's perfect for him since his pants don't really let him sit down.. :sweat

    14. Thank you everyone for your opinions. I've seen the ones that CoolCat on eBay has with the thick clear bases. I really like them but they are a lot more expensive then the Kaiser ones and I don't want to pay unnecessary extra cost if the Kaiser ones would do the job. The Kaiser ones I've seen and previously had experience with have thin metal bases. I was worried they wouldn't be study enough for my 26cm girls. My SD and MSD girls sit but I was thinking I would stand my yoSDs.

    15. I have a few Kaiser stands. They work great but you really need to know the right size before ordering. I've ordered some in wrong size and the shipping is just... very expensive.
I use Kaiser stands for SD/SD13 and SD16

I personally like the waist stand (C shape) better. But then saddle (U shape) are great if your doll wears skirt.
If you like your doll holding fun poses (like stand on one leg, jumping poses, or running poses) a waist type is a better solution.
If you have enough funding, Volks stands are pretty good buy, and Cool Cat's YO size stands has adjustment screw so you can tighten the waist hold.

I use kaiser stands for most of my dolls because of my collection size. If I buy Volks or Cool-cat stands, it would cost me a lot. I basically use cable-tie to tighten the waist hold.

    16. Since you're in Australia you could try Beary Cheap. It's mostly for people who make teddy bears but it's where I got a lot of my stands from - the white metal ones in the little pic at the top of the page. Unfortunately, they don't have any in stock at the moment, but they were a pretty good price so maybe you can email the site and ask if they're going to get any more in.

      Good luck!

    17. Thanks Lillie, I will look into that.

    18. Thanks for the great info... I'll check out eBay and the suggested stores.
Would a U stand securely hold an SD16?

    19. I have a doll stand only from dollmore))

    20. I have stands from DearMineDoll. :) They are cheap, very nice quality, and adjustable! :D
