Dolls with extreme facial expressions.

May 2, 2014

    1. Ring doll recently created a new girl called Mona. She looks very sad, like she is crying. I really like her and other dolls with crazy faces. That got me wondering how other people felt about them and just how many dolls like that there were out there.

So I call on all of us angels to talk about our favorite, or least favorite, super emotional doll, and if you have any pictures please post them.

      (one picture per post please.)

    2. Part of me wants nothing to do with dolls that have extreme facial expressions, but I do find some facinating. I wouldn't buy one, but I do enjoy some of the owner pics.

    3. I love them but I like them much better when they come as a set of faceplates rather than an individual limited head. I have a very empathetic personality so I would feel depressed if my doll looked sad all the time. Still it's a nice change from the status quo.

    4. Arghh, I wish I hadn't seen this thread--had to look up Mona and I love her. I generally like faces that are expressive or quirky in some way. I have quite a few "sleeping" dolls, two winking dolls, and D.I.M.'s Miso, who is laughing. A crying girl would be wonderful!

    5. I'm not really a big fan of dolls with extreme expressions - mostly because I like having dolls who can express more than one thing through the way I pose them. However, there are some that I do really like, even though I wouldn't own them. Jaguar springs to mind, and Granado's Hansel (while not that extreme) has a charm to him.

    6. In general I like seeing pictures of them, but couldn't own one. The exception is Fairyland's Pong Pong. That face always makes me smile.

    7. I do like angry faces, like Dollshe's IM Hound, and would consider owning him someday, but I don't think he's as extreme as some of the other examples. I do like slight variation in my dolls' expressions, but I don't see myself owning something that only has one extreme expression with no additional faceplates or options. Ringdoll's Mona is very interesting and I do like her, but it would be nice if that was an additional faceplate so she had more versatility.

    8. While I find dolls with extreme facial expressions interesting, especially seeing how owners show their creativity with them...I wouldn't be able to own one, as they unnerve me too much :sweat Impldoll's event Kuka for example has too strange of a smiling expression, it just gives me the heebie jeebies!

    9. I absolutely love dolls with happy expressions, like Xhanti's Miso, but I don't think I could ever own one. I prefer more versatile sculpts that can go from happy to angry with just an angle change. I applaud owners who make them work, though (especially the ones with meaner/angrier sculpts).

    10. I love dolls with sharp teeth and huge grins. It's something that draws me to them. I love Mona, though I don't know if I have it in my heart to get a doll that's always crying. I think it depends on the expression and the type of person buying the doll. Also, maybe, it depends on the character/back story that goes with the particular doll? I don't think that people with a cheery character would buy Mona if their character for her was happy/cheerful most of the time. Then again, preference, preference, preference!

(Crying Mona sure is pretty though.)

    11. I actually love Mona and I plan on ordering her fullset sometime in the near future!
I've always loved the more bizarre or avant garde sculpts and I plan to add more to my collection.
Sculpts that come to mind are D.I.M.'s Miso or the IOS Infernale vampire. Both are amazing!

    12. Oh wow Mona is really pretty, I just looked her up... it's amazing how her face changes so much depending on the angle because of how intense her expression is.

I really love dolls with any intensity of facial expression! I don't really have plans to own any in particular, but I sure wouldn't be complaining if a couple super expressive sculpts ended up in my collection. But for the most part I love seeing owner pics! It's so great to see what creative things people come up with for them and I feel like those who fall in love with more unusual sculpts put a lot of effort into customizing them so many owner pics of extreme sculpts are gorgeous.

    13. I only like to look at it when the sculpting is very well done and the face-up matches it. For example, I love the IOS Infernale. Such a bad boy! However, I have a strange feeling when I look at some of Impldoll's tiny sculpts: http://www.impldoll.com/goods.php?id=646, http://www.impldoll.com/goods.php?id=647. I do not know whether it is the face-up or what, but they appear somewhat forced to me. On the other hand, I find this little guy somewhat cool: http://www.impldoll.com/goods.php?id=614

    14. I'm not a fan of extreme facial expressions, because I find them super limiting. I'd only buy a doll with a very extreme facial expression if it were bundled with an extra head/faceplate that had a more neutral expression. And even then, I'd honestly be more likely tobuy the doll if it only came with only the neutral head (due to the expense of getting two heads and the space I'd have to allocate to the floating head). I avoid dolls with sleeping heads for the same reason (too limiting for the character, and annoying to pay extra for a floating head I won't use often).

    15. Wow, I looked at Mona and I find her one of the ugliest dolls I have ever seen since I look at BJD's... together with the Impldolls that were mentioned earlier in this thread, those are even worse o_o
If DZ Carter counts, I think it is the only "crazy" face that I really like and that I've seen up to now.

    16. I love Pong, but couldn't stand to see her on my shelves... Since I have gotten a tiny cheschire and an unoa chibi roar and I love them both.

I really like the Angell Studio demons Trick and Treat but couldn't grab one at the time, Yasya was too scary for me...

I also like Jaguar and IM Hound.

Mona is interesting, but sad faces tend to make me sad so she isn't for me...

    17. When I first saw Mona, my immediate reaction was "why would they sculpt that?!" followed very quickly by "I need it." I'm discovering that I'm a fan of extreme when it comes to my dolls--I like em weird and interesting--I think that's why I gravitate to Doll Chateau. I have to say, Mona is the first Ringdoll that has actually had me looking at my budget and trying to figure out how I could work her in. I think their other dolls have interesting concepts, but on the whole the looks are a little bland for what they are. Mona feels really special, and I'm enamoured of her.

People in my life would probably look at her in exasperation and go "Of course Zaf would buy this doll."

    18. Oh my goodness, to answer the question about how we feel--I want to buy Mona soooo much! Yes, I really like this idea. I still like the regular dolls, but that would be great to have a wide selection of styles like that! BTW, when my husband saw Mona, he said it was the Creepiest doll he'd ever seen, and that also made me want her! Hahaha!

    19. Oh I love Mona! I love her expression. But I have to say from all the links here I do not like even one of them. Sorry.
