1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dolls with Multiple Personalities!

May 20, 2014

    1. I'll open this with the usual disclaimer, I did a couple searches and could not turn up anything that was quite what I was looking for. Which is strange, because I know it's not that uncommon.

      I'm talking about when, for whatever reason, we find ourselves using one physical doll to portray different styles, personalities, or even full-fledged characters.

      When I first bought my Rex, I had intended him to be one character (Kristov, for anyone who knows me outside of DoA)- and it ended up not fitting. In my mad phase of "What should his style be, then?" phase, after I realized my original plans didn't work... I couldn't just pick one and decided the doll would be both 'Michael' and 'Alter'

      Alter kind of came to me first, conceptually as an Angel disguising himself as a Human. Michael came to me conceptually after a soldier I know of a different name, which eventually lead to discovering he had DID as a result of trauma. Michael seemed, as a character, to fit the Rex sculpt very well. But so did Alter. What to do?

      Well, I decided to put them both in the doll. Even better, I actually decided Alter should be Michael's 'alter' personality in regards to DID. I promise that wasn't planned, it just worked out that way and now I wouldn't change it!

      It also helps when I'm on a budget- I'm not afraid now to 'switch' a doll's personality with clothes, eyes, wigs and the like to make it someone else entirely~

      I know I'm not the only one, who else wants to share?

    2. Im happy you were able to find better suiting personalities for your doll ^^ I would think it not uncommon for people to use one doll for multiple characters. Especially since the sculpts can be so versatile. I do plan on giving my third pukifee different styles to change up. My first pukifee and my second will have exact characters but my third will be specifically a shell to continue to change as I find new ideas and designs for her. Little shapeshifter heheh the wait is the hardest part. I want my girls already.

    3. I always wondered if anyone else thought about doing this as a way to save money. :) I honestly think that one doll that embodies many characters would be ideal but have yet to find that perfect doll. I need to find it though because my "one doll" promise to myself has turned into a "5 doll fiasco" really quickly and I don't even know what happened. :doh And of course there are MORE that I want to buy, which isn't good. I thought another way around it was to use one body and several different heads for different characters but then if you want to take photos of them together, you're doomed. LOL!

      Have you ever run into the problem of loving all the characters that fit a particular sculpt and you want to buy another of the same sculpt eventually? I think could easily end up with twin dolls for that very reason.

      I like the alter ego merging of your characters though. It's a really great idea! ;)

    4. Ah! The wait! I think it's a good idea, shapeshifter of sorts! I love changing styles on a doll, it's really fun and satisfying- especially when you already have a doll or two with such a distinct style that you can't change it too much! Hahaha. I hope your wait is short and your doll is beautiful! <3

      When I first joined I said it would only be one doll... That's turning out well, now I'm up to 2 and have plans for more. But YES! On a budget like mine, where I can really only buy one doll per year, it's a fantastic way to play along with different styles and personalities. I've just bought another outfit which is supposed to be for my next planned doll- another Iplehouse EID man, so I've been 'warning' my Michael/Alter that he's gonna have some more names temporarily.

      I have run into that problem- Luckily for Michael/Alter, they would be sharing a doll regardless now that I've settled on the DID. But with a different faceup and resin color I could buy another Rex easy for another character. I'm trying very hard to resist that, though. For the sake of my wallet. I always told myself I wouldn't let myself get into debt over dolls. ^^;

      Thank you! It was like something clicked, Michael needed alter egos, and here I had this character that didn't want to leave the doll- who's name was 'Alter' none the less. Haha. I definitely think it's a fun way to have multiple styles on one doll, which is very satisfying when you've only got a few. ;)
