Dolls without face-ups?

Nov 18, 2012

    1. Don't know if this has been discussed on here before or not, but I couldn't find it. :P

I LOVE blank-faced dolls. I really don't know what it is, I have two blank girls right now and I am very happy with them like that. I think I will eventually get them done, but for right now I really enjoy having them be blank. I think the thing I like most is having the ability (without fear anyway) of touching the dolls face, but it also just looks very natural to me.

Are there any others out there who just like having blank dolls? Or am I just crazy? :P

    2. I'll tell you what .u. I'm not bothered by blank dolls and a few of mine had been blank for a while or while I was doing and redoing their faceups. I don't prefer blank faces, but I do acknowledge that blank sculpts can look just as gorgeous (after all I fell in love with my IoS Sezz once I saw his blank face, faceupped he never looked good enough to me).

I've also seen some owners that keep their dolls blank on purpose and still make them look stunning; in the end I suppose it boils down to personal preference, though. c:

    3. I reall think it depends on the sculpt. When you think all Greeko/Roman sculptures have stunning expressive faces. But some doll sculpts can look a bit vacant. But I must admit I would love to own a few white blanc dolls!

    4. Some of my dolls honestly looked better before I tried to give them a face-up. :)

    5. I don't have a problem with blank dolls or people who like them, but I don't think I would want one to be blank for long because it would creep me out. :XD: I find blank dolls a little creepy!

    6. This is pretty much the same for me too! I think some dolls have really great features, faceup or not and others really need a faceup before I can actually see something in them. It's the eyebrows for me really,
the lack of eyebrows really throws me sometimes.

    7. It really depends on the sculpt because some sculpts looks extremely creepy without a faceup. Personally I keep them in a box till I have money to send them off for one

    8. Most of the dolls I like usually I like them blank a lot (with only one exception so far). I like my dolls blank, but I feel bad posting them online LOL. I don't know, maybe it's because everyone has theirs face-upped and I feel like a cheapo or just that...I don't know, people don't care to see face-up-less dolls? XD;

    9. I received Socheon head from dollmore, and it was actually my first seeing a doll without a faceup :/
I was really shocked how she looked so different on the photo... hopefully, by giving my doll a makeup, she would look just like on the pic O_o

    10. Blank dolls bother me a little. I don't think dolls are creepy, generally, but the blank ones are a little weird.

    11. I guess for me, I prefer BJDs with face-ups...but if I ordered one blank with the intention of doing something custom, then I might be more comfortable with it. I don't think you're crazy at all--just think we all have our own preferences. It's what makes the hobby so very fascinating and diverse! :)

    12. I think this is how I feel sometimes. The doll in my avatar is blank, and I plan to keep her that way, but I feel bad when I post her on here! :P

    13. I bought one from a friend earlier this year and her younger cousin adored him blank! She never had the money or time to send him off or try herself to give him a face so when he arrived here, he got one. Well, he was here a little while still blank. I have a few tinies in need of faceups, still.

    14. I totally agree. I've left one of my girls blank for most of the year that I've had her, and I think she's quite lovely just the way she is. I think the next time I give her a faceup, it will be very simple. I love her sculpt, which is why I bought her. But other sculpts need something to bring them to life. Pretty eyes just aren't enough!

    15. I have a blank doll. I'm considering just blushing the contours of her face. I've lightly glossed her lips and tear ducts and I think she looks great. Her sculpt is very expressive without a faceup. I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping a doll blank. It lets the true beauty of the sculpt shine.

    16. You are not crazy at all. There are alot doll owner who do have blank dolls or dolls with very light face up on them. ^^

    17. I generally don't care for dolls without faceups, but I'm an artist and I think faceups are soooo pretty! So I think that's why I like them better with. But I guess I'll be able to make a better decision once I get my dolls...since I'll be doing their faceups and I'll have to live with them being blank until I have time to do them! lol

    18. I love blank dolls providing they are completely blank such as no wig or eyes, i think the sculpts speak for themselves, but as soon as the wig goes on and the eyes go in i prefer them with a faceup.

    19. ;_; Ah, blank dolls are one of the few things that really bothers me. Err, of course if people like their dolls blank that is fine and I respect that, but I for some reason do not like it at all. I don't know, I think its because it takes away from the realistic quality the dolls have. It just makes me think of unpainted plastic toys, which I guess is kind of accurate. I actually am sort of bothered by it to the point that I don't want non-BJD people ever seeing my dolls if they are blank. I know that is ridiculously silly, but even I find them somewhat odd blank, so I do not want to encourage the "creepy doll" stereotype further by having a unnaturally colorless faced doll.

Also, whenever I explain to non-BJD people about how the dolls are customizable and you can do face-ups on them, I always use the example of what blank-face dolls look like by comparing it to covering one's entire face over with foundation/concealer- eyebrows and lips and everything. If you were ever an overly curious young child and accidentally did that, then you'll know it looks very unnatural but also a lot like blank dolls.

While I love to see sculpts blank for reference purposes, I could not handle having my own doll left blank.

    20. I personally don't like the pictures of my blank doll, but I love how he is blank in RL.
Of course, I'm still planning to get him a faceup within the next year, but I am loving him the same while he is blank~
There are a couple sculpts i prefer blank and can't seem to like with faceups.

But usually I prefer with faceup.
