Domuya Flexi vs ShinyDoll Thassa bodies

Dec 31, 2006

    1. Has anyone here owned both of these bodies (any head)? I am having a tough time deciding which one I want.

      Domuya flexi: http://domuya.net/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14&products_id=45

ShinyDoll Thassa: http://homepage3.nifty.com/doi-midori/ShinyDoll/Thaasa Poses Naked Eng.html

I was favoring the Domuya since I have a Domuya MSD. I like my Fay Jr. and Candy is easy to deal with. However, someone in another thread said that the bosom on the flexi is very large.

The Thassa looks anorexic to me.

Can anyone her give the pros and cons of these 2 bodies?

    2. Bump

I really do want to know about this.

    3. I only have a Thaasa body, so I can't give you a comparison. But they bodies are very posable, and they hold their poses well. The resin is very nice, too. I really like my doll, and if I had a floating head, the Thaasa body is probably what I'd get for it, if the neck and the hole on the head were compatible.

Mine doesn't look anorexic to me. She's petite compared to most SD-sized dolls, but she doesn't seem skinny. Her arms are slim compared to other dolls her size, and her breasts are small. She's definitely not voluptuous, but she's feminine.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I can't think of any cons to the body as far as poasbility and quality are concerned, but if you want an outrageously sexy, well-endowed doll, the Thaasa body probably isn't what you're looking for.

    4. In my humble opinion, I really like the Domuya body better!

    5. I own a Domuya Flexi Body, but not a ShinyDoll body. I couldn't love it more though! The boobs on the Flexi are not that big. Though they are not tiny, they look to me perhaps even a little small on her. She is very girly though. :) The Flexi bodies pose pretty good. Except their anjles tend to be a little weak and fold out, but I think it's worth it... I've never had a doll that can physically touch their face without holding it there, or catching it on something, or popping out a joint, which the Flexi body does. :D

    6. flanna, may I ask you if the shinydoll resin matches with luts?

    7. i really prefer the Domuya. you're right the Thaasa looks extremley skinny. i suppose if you wanted a runway model look for your doll you could go for her.

i also think the domuya has a nicer face, and the flexibility in the feet is very tempting.

    8. Thank you all for replying.

Flanna, it may just be the photos on the ShinyDoll website. Those photos are very washed out. I am hoping to find some better pics of the body here.

It is good to hear the bust on the flexi is not as large as I feared. I do like my dolls to look grown up.

I am hoping to find a face I really like that goes with one of these 2 bodies. My favorite of the domuya faces is Fay but I already have a fay Jr. and in my opinion, her nose is too long. I am really too chicken to try modding it yet.

    9. I have a BW Delf Miyu head on a white Thaasa body and the resin is a perfect match. :) Personally, I love the Thaasa body. The engineering is flawless and she's the one doll I can trust never to surprise me by falling over, punching herself in the face, or buckling at the knees. I love the weight of the Shinydoll resin too! It feels almost like soapstone rather than plastic. I had considered getting a Domuya body at one point, but I don't care for the overall look of it as much. I'm glad I chose the Thaasa body - it's effortless to pose, which makes Anastasia a joy to photograph! She's as easy to travel with as a mini because she can fold herself up so small, so I can take her out in situations where I normally wouldn't bring a large doll.
Here are a couple photo shoots, but keep in mind that Shin modified the neck to make it longer because I wanted an exagerated silhouette. [thread=87759]Nude shots[/thread] [thread=105942]Clothed shots[/thread]

    10. St. James, I love your girl. She is gorgeous! I'm glad to hear that the resin matches so well- maybe I'll consider using the Shinydoll body instead of a domuya (but that's well into the future.)

    11. You can have them made with longer necks? The short neck was actually the only thing keeping me from getting a Thaasa body...

    12. Serraphym, when I get home tonight I'll compare the Shinydoll resin with the two Luts heads I have and let you know.

    13. for the one and only girl i have planned, i plan to get a ShinyDoll THAASA (probably with Nanae head). i like the idea of being able to get a longer neck, i didn't know you could! i'll have to think about that...

    14. I assume that Shin would be willing to modify a body again, particularly if you offered to pay a little extra for the additional work. I had planned to do it myself, but I mentioned it to him while we were chatting and he volunteered. He was concerned about durability and resin match, so he did it himself that same afternoon. I measured the depression in the Miyu head, calculated how much longer I wanted the neck to look when she was complete and gave him the total neck length that I needed. He sawed the neck flat, added the necessary length, and hand shaped the top of the neck to accomodate the S-hook. There was a dark line at the join, which you can see in some of my older pictures of Anastasia, but I coated her torso with MSC, colored over it with a white pencil, sealed again and it looks great.

It can't hurt to ask Shin to do the same for your doll. He's incredibly nice, and he even made optional tabi feet entirely from scratch when I asked if it was possible. The regular feet are so lovely and delicate, but I recommend getting both because the tabi feet are slightly larger and allow her to wear Luts and Volks shoes more securely. :)

    15. The shorter-than-usual neck can actually be an advantage. Elektra looks much better in short wigs than any of my other dolls. The others tend to look a little stork-like in wigs that leave their necks bare.

    16. i'll have to look over the planned character for the doll and see which would be the better option, the longer or shorted neck. it's nice to know he'd be willing to do that, and i know i'd be willing to pay extra to have it done if it seems necessary -- that kind of thing can be a lot of work.

Body is flawless. . .YES! Body is effortless to pose. . . YES! YES! YES!!

When I came across the Thaasa body on Ebay, I was intrigued and had to try one. It is simply unbelieveable! There is a lovely, natural "flow" when you change the body from one position to another. I can't say enough about how fabulous these rare dolls are (only 18 owners in the USA, at this time). Soon, I will be taking pictures to compare the Thaasa body to the bodies of--Domuya, Volks SD13, Soul Doll, and Elf Doll. When the Dream of Doll arrives, I will add comparative photos of her to the mix. I'll post the photos here. At this time I have a Volks 08 head on my Thaasa body, and though large-ish, it works just fine. Because of my delight in the Thaasa body, I have just become the exclusive USA dealer for ShinyDoll and hope to have the site ready in February. Though new to DOA, I've adored dolls my whole life and made an established business as well as a bit of a study of them. There can be no better delight than a doll that poses! 8-)

    18. I wonder if the natural skin matches AR skin??

    19. I have a Thaasa body and my friend has a domuya flex and we both get on very well with our girls.

The head on my thaasa (an NS CP Juri 05 event head) matches the NS thaasa body very well, perhaps a shade or two rosier but very good.

I wouldn't say the body is anexoric but as someone here said, is quite slim, petite almost. Her ankles, wrists, feet and hands are certainly delicate compared to the domuya.
The body my head had been on previously was an obitsu 60cm (it broke!) and the posability of the thaasa is, in my opinion, equal in movability and staying put.
The domuya, as I have seen when she's visited, appears to be a little hard to get used to but once you're accustomed it seems fine, and she looks wonderfully natural when sitting.

The cons for me with the thaasa is that I would have preferred a little more definition in the breast area, I'm envious of CP girls boobage! Also her shoulders seem a little squarer than I would have preferred. My friend has also mentioned her domuya's shoulders as being quite hefty!

I guess I haven't been much help picking one! This is just my opinion of the thaasa and what I've observed of the domya at relatively close quarters. If you give either of them a chance they can be lovely bodies.

    20. The Domuya FlexiBody matches Volks pureskin pretty well in tone (the surface texture is different, although a light sanding might change that -- also, the head is heavily coated in MSC, but the body hasn't been coated.)

I don't think that Luts NS would be a bad match, either, although I think it would be a better fit with the newer Type 2 heads (the opening on the Type 1 Luts girl heads is smaller to accommodate their more slender neck.)

The Domuya body is very good for posing, but it's not great about standing. I haven't tried sueding/wiring Kira's girl (Olivia) yet, so that might help . . . I'm hesitant to wire, though, because the whole reason we bought the body was for the fantastic posing.

Olivia will stand in flat boots, but her ankles tend to roll out if she's barefoot.

      HTH!

P.S. Flanna, I'm hoping to make it to the January 13 MD meetup, haven't had a chance to reply to the thread yet . . . so I'll have Kira bring her Olivia if you'd like to bring your lovely Elektra!!
